After taking the self-assessment scale I found it really accurate in the areas I was strong and weak. I feel I am very welcoming to all cultures and always looking to learn new ways to broaden my knowledge. . One of my strengths was in Cultural integration, which I feel is very true for me being raised in Los Angeles and being intermingled in a diversity of cultures. With the salad bowl of people and the multiply cultures i came in contact with, I feel this has helped for me to see everyones ways. My other strength was in Empathy, again i feel this is true about me. I work in Disabled Student Programs and Services (DSPS) at the college and love working with all types of students in need of accommodations to help to succeed in college.
With this job I express a large amount of empathy for the broad range of accommodations we are able to provide. My empathy also applies in helping the unfortunate with volunteering at the food bank and Coats for Kids each year. I was not surprised with my weakness that I scored because i'm a shy person who doesn't like to cause attention. Intellectual Interaction was the first weakness I had in the scale, and I love learning about different cultures but I don’t seek to find out about them I just intermingle and go with the flow in the moment. When traveling to Todos Santos, Baja Mexico I feel is where I find myself experiencing this with traveling around on public transportation to the town and exploring the offbeat places and restaurants. The next weakness was in Attitude Toward Others, Yes I am guilty of this but I’m working on it. I have a hard time with all humans not being treated equal, so sometimes my not so friendly side can come out. This has happened to me when looking for assistance in life, I feel I was not treated equally, for being honoused and shy I have not been given all the same equality. The only topic I feel should be addressed is something on schooling. I feel this scale should touch on these questions; Do you think multiply languages should be taught at a early age in schools? Should students in elementary school be taught two or more languages? I feel this would be a great addition to the scale. In many other countries this is implemented and I feel makes them more knowledgeable than the average american.
Understanding why people do what they do has baffled people for centuries. The Myers-Briggs Personality test has answer a few of these questions. Are you an Extrovert or an Introvert, Sensor or iNtuitive, a Thinker or a Feeler, a Judger or Perceiver? Once you have the tools to understand yourself, you are capable of understanding others. Like the California Psychological Inventory 430 (CPI 430), the California Psychological Inventory 260 (CPI 260) is designed to “furnish information to the interpreter from which a veridical (true-to-life) and useful picture may be drawn of the person taking the test” (Gough & Bradley, 1996, p. 1). A short form of the CPI 430, the CPI 260 was designed for use with businesses and career assessment. It is highly correlated with the CPI 430 and utilizes many of the same items. Additionally, the CPI 260 also uses the same scales as the CPI 430, although several scales have been renamed. There are three Vector Scales, four Lifestyle Types (each tester is placed into one of the four types), 20 Folk Scales, and seven Work-Related Measures (Gough & Bradley, 1996; Groth-Marnat, 2009). The 20 Folk Scales are grouped into four theoretically related categories: dealing with others, self-management, motivations and thinking style, and personal characteristics (Groth-Marnat, 2009). As a whole, the CPI 260 assessment presents a fairly comprehensive picture of the test-taker.

My five strengths according to the strength finder include; balance, this helps me be aware of treating all people equally regardless of the situation. I am neither in anyone 's favor or against anyone as this to me is selfishness and individualism. This would result in a situation where some people scale heights due to connections while others are lagging behind. I believe that a consistent environment where the rules apply to everyone is the best for individuals to function best (Rath, 2007). Flexibility is my next strength. One strength I saw myself, as having when I enter college is being able to understand and critical think about a essay/article that I have read. However, after taking English 101, I have now learned that this is a strength of mine as well as a weakness.
Another strength that I have is being an active listener. I listened to my clients and utilized a lot of micro skills. One of my greatest skills is being able to be compassionate towards others. By placing myself into someone else’s shoes, I find myself being able to better understand where other people are coming from. I am an extremely caring person that will go to great lengths for anyone. I can easily overlook the differences in other people, and this is what helps me get along with almost anyone that I come across. During my first weeks of college I was given the task of taking a quiz that helps me determines my strengths that will help succeed in my college career and beyond. The online quiz assesses you talents and strengths with which you can develop by reading the book ,Strengths Quest, which explains your abilities. The quiz takes thirty minutes to ask about various topics that determine your top five strengths or “themes of talent”. When I first read the synapsis on the back of the book I was skeptical about the accuracy of the quiz’s ability to determine what I’m like based on one hundred and thirty questions. Once I finished the test I still questioned the truth behind the results, until I read the book. I believe that Strengths Quest is a helpful tool that will help me through my college career. The test determined that my personal talents were: adaptability, learner, input, relator, and intellection. Each attribute is presented in the order of the strongest to the weakest. I feel as though the strengths are accurate because I see the similarities between them and my personality.
As we reviewed the self awareness module this past week it was very interesting to see how the self assessments provided the class information about their own personal human behaviors. I was aware of most of the information provided but there were some tendencies I was surprised to find fitted my character. It was good to be reminded of the things I had forgotten about myself. Learning about my individuality and how I interact and respond to others based on my traits, personality and behavior has been an awakening experience. It is also great to know that I can work on areas that need improvement to become a more balance person to better assist my subordinates, teams and organizations.
Self assessment is a process in which you examine yourself in attempt to discover and learn more about yourself. Your likes, dislikes, behaviors, attitudes and habits can be found during this process. You can use the discoveries to your advantage by accepting or changing strengths and weaknesses. I plan on using this course to enhance my personal skills to become a better student and find success in earning my Bachelor of Arts degree at Ashford University in Social Science. One of my greatest strengths at work that I have recognized would have to be my ability to be a well-organized individual. I tend to write what I have to do down on paper and prioritize what is more important to least important. In doing this, it helps me organize and accomplish my work and meet deadlines that are important. A personal strength that I have at home is patience.
