1. INTRODUCTION
The outcome from our SMDP class - Business Leadership and Management for Results is to present a Personal Leadership Plan, which will highlight the areas I need personal development, as well as areas of strengths I can build on.
This Personal Leadership Plan is based on feedback received from the Insights Discovery profile, which was compiled from my responses to the Insights Preference Evaluator, completed on 22 May 2015. Additional information used as input were:
• Personal feedback forms, received back from my spouse, friends and colleges,
• Results from the class assessments done.
Key Learnings from this class for me was becoming aware that being a leader does not mean you stop growing, but that I need to continually seek

Excellent organisation In any situation someone needs to bring everything together, by providing direction, leadership and assistance to those needing it and leaving no gaps for potential failure.
2.3 ASSESSMENT OF MY WEAKNESSES
Insights Discovery has highlighted the below items as WEAKNESSES:
- Confidence can sometimes be interpreted as arrogance.
- Blaming and judgmental, particularly when challenged on shortcomings, can become defensive or dictatorial if challenged.
- Over reliance on traditional practises.
- Impatience with others I see as having lower standards.
- Appears to be critical or to de-value the work of others.
- May appear cold and unfeeling (this is BAD).
- Usually puts facts before feelings.
- May step on toes of others to achieve objectives.
- Often fails to take sufficient account of others opinions.
I am shocked to have to agree with most of the weaknesses listed, but I am thankful to be able to open my eyes to this insight so I can action development for better results in these areas…
In summary I have identified my KEY WEAKNESSES as:
Weakness Why is it a weakness?
1. I do not listen or value others opinions or input Being as strong principles as I am, firstly this is plain

A good mother and valued friend. I wish to know that I have touched everyone’s lives in a good way, making it better by word and/or action!
2.6 BUSINESS CONNEXION
Business Connexion is moving towards being the Leading Enabler of the Internet of Things in Africa.
What challenges this brings is that I will be classified as the “old regime or old wood” that needs to be chopped… The new “Y” generation is the workforce of tomorrow and my current way of work will not “fit” into the new generation’s attitude of anywhere, anyhow, anyway, specifically related to my weaknesses of being too rigid and stuck on old traditional processes.
I have adapted my Personal Leadership Plan to perform research and modify my way of work to be more flexible and adaptable so the new generation will find me “ready” for them and a valuable asset in their new world, with value to add and not someone holding them back…
...AND I have learned in this class to consciously be less me when required and listen more to the individual “opposite” to me, since everyone has value to add in their own special way – it does not have to be MY WAY or the HIGH WAY…I need to stop taking myself to seriously!!! – Thank you for that too…!!!
It is one thing to have the knowledge of “the practice of mobilizing people to tackle tough challenges and thrive”. What I am persistent to do with that knowledge is what is important. My biggest take away is that I need to get on the balcony. By being on the balcony I can see that is it really the bold guy with the dance moves who starts the party, not the DJ. Silly to me that I never realized that is where I needed to be, that is where people could find me in a real life party. A year from now I hope that is still where I will be, looking for new data and learning more about myself in new circumstances. There will always be more to learn, although every once in a while I will have to intervene in situations that will make me uncomfortable. To carry on improving on the skills I picked up during the course of this class, it will be crucial for me to reevaluate the goals I set for myself. I plan to reset them all and provide myself with a timeline to achieve the goals. KU offers a minor in leadership studies and this classes is the foundation for all of those leadership classes to come. This class will be impossible to forget as I move forward in complete my minor. I will be using what I have learned in this class still three years from, it is kind of
I believe to be a successful leader it is important to not just focus on one particular style, but to incorporate many. If you take a few high points from each style and learn to mesh them together you should have a better understanding of leadership as a whole. This class has taught me that being a leader is a lot more challenging than people may think. Leaders have to wear many different hats in many different situations. To become an effective leader you have to work at it. It may come easy to some, but to others it is a skill that is shaped and molded over time. Different experiences and situations help mold leaders into who they become. I hope to use the different styles we have learned about to mold me into an effective leader in today’s society.
Being a course about leadership, I was able to learn several takeaways important to being a leader.
As a whole, Warren Bennis defined the values and achievement plan for becoming the most successful leader one can be. He highlighted the link between self knowledge and business. A leader is not just “doing a job” or “running a company,” but it’s finding one’s personal vision. Bennis tries to do as much as he possibly he can to shatter this myth. Today, more people are starting to learn what leadership exactly means and what is expected of a leader. It might be evident that in the future competition will be harder
Leadership is an important aspect of all businesses, especially the health care industry, and without good leadership, patient care and outcomes may be affected. Effective leaders and managers use various styles and theories and adapt these with consideration to the characteristics of their workers and of the environment. A self-assessment was done that asked a series of questions that generated a picture of the quality and what style of leader that I am. This picture will be compared to existing leadership and management theories along with a few examples. Also, my leadership style will show the actions and behaviors required for effectively leading an ideal workforce and workplace environment. There are many surveys that help one to
Before this course I had ample leadership experience starting from a young age with organized sports and most recently in military service, while I had a lot of time to hone a particular type of leadership style which was almost exclusively geared toward leading rough and tough young men. I soon learned that in this field that I would need to vary my leadership styles and methods because if I used my usual methods on a student
What is the most important concept that you learned in this class? Write this for a reader who is unfamiliar with the concept.
One of the topics in organizational development today is leadership. Leadership is what individuals do to mobilize other people in organizations and communities. According to Kouzes & Posner, there are five practices and ten commitments of exemplary leadership. The five practices of exemplary leadership include: Model the way, inspire a shared vision, challenge the process, enable others to act, and encourage the heart. In the Leadership Challenge, Kouzes and Posner found similar patterns and actions of leadership that created the essentials to achieve success. Utilizing the research conducted by Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner, I have created a leadership plan that would apply to the Admission Department at Texas Wesleyan University.
The author has designed the personal learning plan around the diagnosis of his learning needs, statement of specific learning objectives, learning resources and strategies, evidence of accomplishment, how the evidence will be validated, and how the learning will be evaluated. I will concentrate on the five disciplines: Systems Thinking, Personal Mastery, Mental Models, Shared Visions, and Team Learning introduced by Peter M. Senge. This will allow me to expand my leadership abilities at my current job as well as jobs that I may hold in the future. What distinguishes leaders is the clarity and persuasiveness of their ideas, the depth of their commitment, and the extent of their openness to continually learning more. They do not "have the answer," but they seem to instill confidence in those around them that, together, "we can learn whatever we need to learn in order to achieve the results we truly desire" (Senge, 2006). Senge is explaining to us the importance of being open and to expand our knowledge. That is why every leader and employee should create a learning plan, so that they can understand as much about themselves. This allows them not only to believe in themselves, but others to believe in them as well.
Leaders can have a powerful impact on the futures of many, and the way in which one approaches leadership is paramount to the type of impact one will have. Continual growth in the areas of knowledge I have and seek to acquire, as well as recognizing my leadership style and utilizing my personal strengths to the fullest, is vital to the successful implementation of my personal philosophy of leadership.
As a person who is for the most part uncomfortable with change, it is important that I find ways be a leader in a world that is ever changing. In order to be the best and most prepared leader as possible, it is necessary to be aware of one’s core identity and the values, talents, and strengths that are included in this. Consistent with the indications of Vaill’s term, “permanent white water”, the tendency of the world to change is unavoidable and “continual”. We as leaders must find ways to adapt and acclimate ourselves to these situations. Through the discovery of my core values, talents, leadership style, I will be able to develop an action plan to transform my talents into strengths and use leadership techniques to best accommodate my ambitions.
The personal leadership development plan is to capture the self-awareness of an individual. People in general have a difficult time trying to figure out who they are and how they view themselves plus how others may see them. This plan will touch on my personal strengths, areas of improvement, and also identify me as a person more in-depth. The Personal Profile System and the Team Dimensions Profile will be used to provide an understanding.
2. I will learn more about state geography. I will learn more about the towns and regions of Oklahoma.
This paper describes about my leadership strengths and areas for growth/future study. It also included how these qualities are used in my daily work routine, self-assessment results and a brief explanation on Individual style in leadership.
