At Clinton High School, school starts every day at 8:30 A.M. Although many complain that this is too early, there are many advantages to having an early start time. Students who are in school before 8:30 A.M. tend to exceed academically, have more time after school for extracurricular activities, and are more prepared for the real world and their future careers.
Starting school earlier in the day has many great academic benefits. According to the Buffer Social blog, the best time to write and get ideas is early in the morning because the brain is more active. After a good nights rest, students brain is ready to function and begin learning, which allows the student to stay focused on what is being taught during class. If school started any later than 8:30 A.M., it would end later, this would interfere with after school activities. Most students are involved with different clubs, sports teams, or have part-time jobs. Clubs and sports teams often meet after school, and employers expect their employee to be there a little after school. With school ending later than usual, it would be much harder to balance students’ schedules. If school started and ended later, there would be very little time for these extracurricular activities and even less time for homework and studies.
Going to sleep late does not help having to wake up extra early for school. Some students wake up as early as five o’clock every morning. Of course no one likes waking up this early to go sit in a classroom for seven hours, but in the real world, there are jobs that start as early as seven in the morning. By starting schools early, students are being prepared for real life. If schools did start later than 8:30 A.M., students’ bodies would have a hard time adjusting to the early
