In “Later High School Start Times a Challenge for Districts” it states, “Many school districts use the same buses to transport elementary, middle and high school students. A change in start time at the high school level thus usually means a change in start time at elementary and middle schools, too.”. If schools were to start later they would have to replan their entire bussing schedules and routes. It would also be difficult for driving students to make it to school on time with all of the traffic. Parents will be heading to work around the same time as their children are heading to school causing twice as much traffic later in the morning. According to “The Consequences of Schools Starting at Later Times” it says, “A late start and may cause conflicts with parents' work schedules, which may cause transportation or supervision
Despite popular opinion, to be beneficial, schools should continue on their current schedules, and not start later. Starting schools later can have a variety of positive and negative consequences on students. Schools currently are at a time that gives students enough lesson time to learn subjects, but still have time to relax and take part in other activities after school. Also many families depend on the time school starts to have easy transportation to school and work. Starting schools later will take away students time to do activities of their choice such as spend time with their families, socialize with others, and participate in extracurricular activities.
There is multiple facts and reasons to have later start times help students get through the school day. BY helping students get better grades, test scores, and overall better. And teens these days aren't getting the sleep they need to wake up early and go to school. SO that is why school should have later start times. IF schools started later we wouldn't have all these tired and groggy students coming to school we would have students that are refreshed and ready to learn. We will have students that have good grades. We will have students who have better test scores. And we will have students with overall better performance.I what you right now pick up your phone and call your district and say we want later start
Throughout the United States, students tend to complain about how early school starts in the morning. A few schools in the U.S. are beginning to move their start times later in the morning. However, not everyone is on the same side of these decisions. Some say that later school start times will have benefits on student performance and student health. Others say that later school start times would have negative affects on what time school will end and the schedules of the community. What times schools start is a very controversial topic.
With delaying the schools start time, comes tardiness. Kids wouldn’t be tardy and wouldn’t be tired. A school that moved the starting time to 9:00 reported a 66% drop in tardiness. 70% of the kids from that school improved on their grades, and showed significant improvements. Later start times also reduced truancy in schools and dropout rates. 64% of teenagers that sleep in class
When it comes to middle and high schools, they tend to start early, not generally knowing why the kids are tired. Only 15% of schools in America start at 8:30 or later, and it’s affecting schools across the country. Early school start times plague the students with low grades, sleep deprivation, and lower social skills. A solution to all of those factors would be to make the school start time later than 8:00. Middle school start times should be later because grades would be better, more time to wake up, and better social skills. They can’t just make a kid wake up and learn when they want to be asleep!
Getting up to go to school really early in the morning is more upsetting than having to actually attend school. Almost all high school students would agree that high schools should start later in the morning. Even though high school students should be responsible
Should Schools Start Later? Many high school students, including myself, do not get enough sleep. The idea of sleeping in sounds like the best thing ever, especially after those late night study sessions. Often times, teenagers are not able to sleep late because of school or work schedules. There are many side effects of sleep deprivation, but proven benefits of starting days later.
A lot of people wonder whether or not school should begin later in the day for high school students. Letting teenagers get more sleep is a solid reason as to why school should start later, however there are many more important facts that suggest students should continue to have an early start on school. High school students should not start school later in the day because of complications concerning students’ schedules and transportation methods.
Don't you hate waking up early for school in the morning? Most high school students wake up before the sun rises just to become ready for school. Teenage brains do not begin to function that early considering many are tired from staying up late the previous night. The National Sleep Foundation reported that most teens do not retain enough shuteye, one study found that only 15% reported sleeping eight 1/2 hours on school nights. That fact was extremely true for me when I attended high school. I barely was able to wake up, get dressed, and be in school on time since I was so tired. In my opinion school days should start later, precisely in between 9- 10 o'clock. If the school day started later attendance would improve, students will be more prepared, and student's attitudes and grades may improve.
Should School Start Times Be Later “If opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door.” -Milton Berle. This means when an opportunity comes, take it, just like how school start times should be later. Some people think that school start time should stay the same.
Many kids love their free time after school because they can play sports, be a part of a club, and hang out with friends. Lots of schools have been starting their school day later, because they think that students are not getting the proper amount of sleep each night. Schools should not start later because not every kid has trouble getting up on the morning, the transportation costs are extremely expensive, and it takes away from afterschool sports and activities.
A modern issue in American Education is if should kids have later start times. I believe high schools should keep their regular start time. They should keep their usual start time because a later start time would affect students after school commitments, schedules, transportation, and productivity. One of my first reasons not to push back start times is transportation.
The main reason why high schools are still not changing their hours is because of the buses. In the article “What is the Advantage of Having School Start Early” by Marie Anderson, she gives statistics on how it saves schools money starting school early. She says, “ Lubbock ISD in Texas is anticipating saving more than 1 million dollars by utilizing start times prior to 8 a.m. at some campuses. Suffolk Public Schools in Virginia estimates that by starting some campuses at 7:25 a.m. they will be able to save around $680,000 a year”(Anderson). By starting high schools so early it is saving money because the buses pick up high schoolers and middle schoolers first then they pick up elementary students, requiring less buses and bus drivers. It’s been reported by the Legislative Analyst office that in 2011-12 it cost school districts $1.4 billion to transport students. It can also benefit the students because they will have less time on the bus and endure less
For all children in the United States it is the law to attend school for up to the beginning of high school. I believe that high school should be optional because many of the material learned in class will not be set to the basic knowledge to be able to work in the real world. This limits the interest of teens for the real world and what they want to be able to do in their lives. The classes that are being taken in current classes helps the basic knowledge of people, but does not prepare them for life in the real world. Teens who are almost adults should have a choice as to whether they should go to high school and choose what course in life they want to take.
“A college degree is the new high school diploma” Why people may ask? Students graduate out of high school and get to work rather than go to college. According to the author Bernie Sanders, at minimum wage you’ve could’ve worked off to pay your tuition now it would take a worker nearly an entire year or more. Young scholars tend to dropout before putting themselves in debt. If they do decide to make an effort and seek out colleges some end up carrying student debt and having to take out huge amount of loans that eventually will have to pay back.
