Later Start Time In Schools

A modern issue in American Education is if should kids have later start times. I believe high schools should keep their regular start time. They should keep their usual start time because a later start time would affect students after school commitments, schedules, transportation, and productivity.
One of my first reasons not to push back start times is transportation. If schools push back their start times, it will be difficult for students to get to and home from school. “A typical first shift is 8 A.M. to 4 P.M.” (work.chron.com, 2016) This makes it hard for students that get driven by their parents to get to school. The bus service would have to work their schedules around high school start and end times. This might affect middle and elementary schools, also. For people who live further away and ride the train to school, they will either get to school to early or too late. …show more content…

Parents’ work schedules could clash with the high school’s new start time. Later start times could also conflict with a student’s younger sibling’s schedule. The later start time will take away students’ and teachers’ time. Many student’s sleep schedules would be altered or off-set. A later start time will make kids think they can stay up later so they wouldn’t get more sleep. They might be even more tired with these new schedules. Do you really want kids sleeping in class?
When it gets sunny during the day, do you just want to go outside? Well, if schools push back their start times, they would have to go later in the afternoon. I can say from personal experience as a student that when it gets brighter later in the day, it will be harder to work and concentrate. If there are later start times, sports schedules would be pushed back making it hard to do homework or study. Are later start times really worth kids having no free
