It is a pleasure to write this letter of reference for BAM’s Brooklyn Interns for Arts and Culture (BIAC) program. I was a BIAC intern during my senior of high school, from October 2013 to August 2014, during which I worked in the DanceMotion USA. In addition, I worked with my staff mentor Jenny Rodriguez, who worked in the Human Resources Department. I found it extremely helpful to have the supprort from these three different levels of contact. With these varying levels of support, I always felt cared for and there were no questions left unanswered. Working as a BIAC Intern was a great experience for me because I had an opportunity to learn about the different ways in which I can perform research that could be included in grants, reports, and other larger projects that helped further not only DanceMotion USA’s mission, but also BAM as an institution. I also learned how to be confident in the worked I produced, despite being an intern. My supervisor never gave work that undermined my skills and abilities. They were open to challenging me, which I absolutely loved. The assignments and projects I worked on were absolutely transferable, and helped make me become a viable candidate for jobs and opportunities that I am now applying for years after I participated in BIAC. …show more content…
Some of these skills included how to voice your concerns to a professor or advisor. In regard to the job preparation workshops, I learned the importance of how an institution is organized, in terms of how different departments worked together to fulfill the institution's goals. This is valuable because I am now aware of where I fit into an organization, and how strongly my contribution can affect the institution as a
Being a course about leadership, I was able to learn several takeaways important to being a leader.
Today’s essential skills for both teachers and learners are metacognitive and process oriented and including critical thinking and problem solving, collaboration and leadership, agility and adaptability, initiative and entrepreneurialism, effective communication, accessing and analyzing information, curiosity and imagination Wagner (2008). Today’s educators must be masters of learning, not necessarily masters of content, and today’s learners must have the skills to adapt to any new situation.
Coming into this major I had no idea what to expect and the same went for this course, but I did know that it dealt with leadership, something that I have been steeped in for a good part of my life. So with that, it was hard to really set any goals as to what I would want to improve in with my leadership style but I was able to pin point a few aspects that could use some work through learning about different leadership techniques and methods. By learning about how leaders are formed, different approaches to leading groups and various aspects effecting group dynamics, I could determine an individuals or my own strengths in leadership and the methods necessary to effectively lead various types of groups. Also by observing many others in facilitating the after school program it gave me much more of an opportunity to see what works and what does not, this is an opportunity very few leaders get without being thrust into a role that they are ill prepared for.
As I have noted, I truly believe that the numerous job skills that are needed to be successful include dedication, communication, and adaptation. First of all, you must be devoted to your career if you want exemplary results. Equally important, being able to articulate your ideas, and intellectually communicate said ideas will ensure a successful time at you occupation. Last but not least, in order to be successful in your employment, you must be flexible to the obstacles that are inevitable. I urge you to strive to obtain these essential job skills because they are worthwhile.
Business internships are helping students gain real world experience while they are not actually out in the real world yet. Internships are becoming more and more popular with college students in today’s world. An internship is basically when a student in college goes to a company or business and works while they are still enrolled in school and still getting academic credit. The main purpose of the internship is for the student to gain valuable on the job work experience. But there are also other things that a student can get from internships. Internships help the student decide whether or not this line of work is correct for them. Since the student works in an occupation in which they are highly interested in it really helps them get a bigger picture of the outside world.

In particular, it was helpful to here from individuals on the panel that were graduates from our program. Elizabeth Cowart, a LPC at Transitions of Augusta, informed my classmates and I about about her personal internship experiences. She noted four key things (1) the importance of getting as much hands-on experience as possible (2) taking a mental note of the what you like and dislike at each internship site (3) using weekly supervision hours to discuss your areas of strengths and weaknesses and (4) remembering to always maintain a professional image. In addition, she also gave a brief overview of opportunities (e.g., adolescent group therapy, child and parent therapy, disability evaluations, etc.) that interns might have at Transitions of
It has been a while since I started at the internship and I am really glad I decided to work here. I think the experience in this area is a good preview of my career and future. I am learning some important skills and finding out some things about myself and the tough skin I will need in order to stay in the area of juvenile support.
One of the ways of how I am learning organisational skills is by having to bring in equipment for my lessons such as the books and resources that I need and this is similar to using organisational skills at work as I will need all relevant paperwork and additional equipment that I need. Working to deadlines Working to deadlines is a transferable skill that I must have whether in education or am at work, as I will always be set deadlines to work towards in a matter of different ways wherever I am trying to train and develop my skills and knowledge on the industry that I am in when I go into work and the university/college standards that I have to meet with my college coursework when I am studying. Management and leadership Management and leadership is one of the most important transferable skills that there is available to learn, as there will be times at my work and study life where I will need to be the team leader and manage other people within a team and management and leadership skills will help me excel in my

My internship experience this semester was interesting. I interned at ESH/MESH with Bridgeway. My Supervisor was Emilie Banz. I didn’t do much but I did learn a lot from this experience. I met a lot of great people and watch PsyR in action. I met a couple of individuals who were really cool. My experience this semester has prepared me for the next.
They made me feel like I am a real employee in the company. One of the employees in our department provides a learning session for an intern. He taught us some of the rules that we need to do while we were in the division. He answers some of the questions that we want to know that are related in the company. For me, this learning session was very helpful while I am working because it provides me a better understanding of my job as an intern. It gives me so much information regarding the policies and my responsibilities.
The teaching internship class at Sandburg has been a great experience so far. I love the fact that I am able to learn more about the profession that really interests me. It really gives me a firsthand look on how everything operates and teaches me things that ...
