Employment Skills
Introduction
In my essay I will talk about the skills required to get a good job
nowadays. There will be three main points I will be discussing such as academic,
personal management, and teamwork skills. I will give you examples of these
skills, and reasons why this skill is important for you to get a job.
Academic Skills
Academic skills are probably the most important skill you will need to
get a job. It is one of the or the first thing an employer looks for in an
employee. They are skills which give you the basic foundation to acquire, hold
on to, and advance in a job, and to achieve the best results. Academic skills
can be further divided into three sub-groups; communication, thinking, and
learning skills.
Communicate. Communication skills require you to understand and speak
the languages in which business is conducted. You must be a good listener, and
be able to understand things easily. One of the most important communicating
skills would be reading, you should be able to comprehend and use written
materials including things such as graphs, charts, and displays. One of the
newest things we can add to communicating skills would be the Internet, since it
is so widely used all around the world - you should have a good understanding of
what it is and how to use it.
Think. Thinking critically and acting logically to evaluate situations
will get you far in your job. Thinking skills consists of things such as
solving mathematical problems, using new technology, instruments, tools, and
information systems effectively. Some examples of these would be technology,
physical science, the arts, skilled trades, social science, and much more.
Learn. Learning is very important for any job. For example, if your
company, gets some new software, you must be able to learn how to use it,
quickly and effectively after a few tutorials. You must continue doing this for
the rest of your career. It is one thing that will always be useful in any
situation, not just jobs.
Personal Management Skills
Personal management skills is the combination of attitudes, skills, and
behaviors required to get, keep, and progress on a job and to achieve the best
results. Personal management skills can be further divided into three sub-
groups just as academic skills, which are positive attitudes and behaviors,
responsibility, and adaptability.
Positive Attitudes And Behaviors. This is also very important to keep a
job. You must have good self-esteem and confidence in yourself. You must be
honest, have integrity, and personal ethnics. You must show your employer you
are happy at what you are doing and have positive attitudes toward learning,
There are literally hundreds of desirable traits in the workplace. Of these, one of the arguably most important is to be well-rounded in the workplace. Many skills can assist an individual in being a well-rounded employee. Oral communication skills, written communication skills, teamwork, technical skills, leadership skills, adaptation skills, computer skills, interpersonal skills and analytic abilities are some of the key factors to a well-rounded employee. While these skills all seem to be of equal ability to the well-rounded employee, the scope of this paper will only delve into a few of the skills preceding. Technical skills, oral communication skills and leadership skills will all be detailed in this review in an attempt to help you (the reader) become a well-rounded employee.
The short story titled, “The Yellow Wallpaper” is given its name for no other reason than the disturbing yellow wallpaper that the narrator comes to hate so much; it also plays as a significant symbol in the story. The wallpaper itself can represent many various ideas and circumstances, and among them, the sense of feeling trapped, the impulse of creativity gone awry, and what was supposed to be a simple distraction transfigures into an unhealthy obsession. By examining the continuous references to the yellow wallpaper itself, one can begin to notice how their frequency develops the plot throughout the course of the story. As well as giving the reader an understanding as to why the wallpaper is a more adequate and appropriate symbol to represent the lady’s confinement and the deterioration of her mental and emotional health. In Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s “The Yellow Wallpaper”, the color of the wallpaper symbolizes the internal and external conflicts of the narrator that reflect the expectations and treatment of the narrator, as well as represent the sense of being controlled in addition to the feeling of being trapped.
To begin, I honestly believe it is necessary to be dedicated to your job. It is necessary to be one hundred percent dedicated to whatever you are doing if you wish to get substantial results. If you look at statistics, you will realize that it took years of blood and sweat, otherwise known as dedication, to get something fulfilling. Jesse Owens once aptly stated, “We all have dreams. But in order to make dreams come into reality, it takes an awful lot of determination, dedication, self-discipline, and effort.” I honestly believe that if you wish to be successful in your occupation you must be willing to put in the effort. You will not be satisfied with your work if you do not do whatever you can to get it done. To sum up, you must ...
The intention of the essay is to show reflective self-analysis, which will be described from strengths and weaknesses, personality, skills, learning styles, emotional intelligence and psychometric profile in order to develop myself to have sense of employability for my career in the future. Once Trought (2012) says that employability skills can help establishing success. Therefore, it is very crucial to review oneself as a first step.
To become a truly effective leader, one must encapsulate the various behaviors related to the aforementioned course learnings in his/her persona and demonstrate such behaviors daily. This course has allowed me to identify four behaviors that all leaders must portray to be effective. The first of which is that a leader must be inspirational. To do so, a leader must set the appropriate vision and direction for the organization and provide a path to achieving defined goals. Additionally, a leader must induce the proper levels of motivation so that each employee has sufficient incentive to work towards the organization’s goals. As discussed in the class, motivation can be accomplished by factors such as rewarding hard work and providing the correct opportunities to employees. While these are motivating in that employees desire to be fairly compensated and to be doing work they deem valuable, inspiration comes more from organizational culture. A leader will be inspirational by setting a tone that appreciates each employee’s contribution, no matter how small in scale it is. Further, employees are inspired when they work collaboratively in a group setting and can capitalize on individual strengths to drive organizational goals.
While working or while looking for work there are certain skills sets that are universally important. No matter what job or career path you have chosen these skills make it easier to obtain your goals, whatever they may be.
Homeschooling is receiving instruction of education in a place other than an established school. Some parents feel if they keep their children at home, they can minimize the chance that harm can happen. Other parents feel that they know their child best and can utilize personal strengths to work on educational needs. In the past, religion was the leading cause of parents who chose home schooling, now days this does not necessarily hold true.
Motivation is key in the workplace. It is developed from the collaboration of both conscious and unconscious principles such as the strength of desire or need, motivating force or reward estimation of the objective, and desires of the person and of his or her peers/co-workers. These elements are the reasons one has for carrying on a specific way. An illustration is an understudy that invests additional energy contemplating for a test since he or she needs a superior review in the class. The Inside and outside principles that animate want and vitality in individuals to be constantly intrigued and centered around their work, part or subject, or to try to achieve an objective.
When it is discovered that a worker can fulfill the requirements of their job, but are experiencing shortcomings in doing so, many times it is believed that worker motivation may be the root of the problem (Laird 95). What, though, is work motivation? According to Laird (2006), “motivation is a fundamental component of performance “ and “is the reason that someone chooses to do some things and chooses not to do others”. In other words, work motivation is what energizes workers to the level of output required to fulfill a task, directs their energy towards the objectives that they need to accomplish, and sustains that level of effort over a period of time (Steers et al., 2004). In essence, worker motivation is what gets the job done. Employee motivation has always been a central problem in the workplace, and, as an individual in a supervisory position, it becomes ones duty to understand and institute systems that ensure the proper motivation of your subordinates. Proper motivation of employees can ensure high productivity and successful workflow, while low worker motivation can result in absenteeism, decreased productivity rates, and turnover. A large body of research has been produced regarding motivation, and much of this research is applicable to the workplace. Due to the nature of man, motivation varies from individual to individual, and, because of this, there is no one system that is the best for ensuring worker motivation in every organizational situation, and, as a product, many theories have been created to outline what drives people to satisfactorily complete their work tasks. Throughout the course of this document, the three main types of these motivational theories will be outlined and examples of each as well...
... also convey a strong confidence in my ability to perform my job at a high level. Self-motivation is one of the traits that I put at the very top of any list of positive attributes.
The major reasons for homeschooling cited by two-thirds of the parents interviewed are concern about the school environment, dissatisfaction with the academic programs, and the desire for religious or moral instruction (National Center for Education Statistics [NCES], 2004). Parents feel ...
There are many types of family that exists in today’s society, each important to the upbringing of any children of which may be apart of it.
Family structure can greatly impact the day-to-day activities of a family. A family with one parent may have a very different dynamic than one with two parents, or possibly even more parents. It is no surprise that these differences exist and families and that one’s family impacts their way of life. However, does it make a significant difference? Or is it simply a difference in how people react to their situations. That is what I wanted to learn from this assignment.
A good employee must have good verbal skills and critical thinking skills. These pertain to the mental and emotional aspects of a person. Interpersonal skills cover an array of skills. They can be from being able to negotiate for a desired aspect to recognizing the moods and emotional stability of others. A person has to be reliable and be able to stand for what is best, not only for themselves but for others. Being assertive, being able to lead, being someone who can persuade others to a cause shows someone who is dependable and strong. After all, I have learned that if I do not stand for what I want, I could easily be led to a path where I despise myself. To be the best I can be, I have to be able to define my boundaries with others and myself. By doing so, I can not only be my most productive and successful self, but others will learn what to expect from me. A company will know what to expect from me and will be confident in their decision to hire me, knowing I will bring them results they can be satisfied
Homeschooling is a rising alternative in children’s education. As with any other major movement there have been doubts and debates as well as support and promotion for this educational approach. Homeschooling was once the norm in society before there was a public school system. But the parents involved in homeschooling feel very strongly about the positive outcomes that it has brought about in the lives and success of their children. It has once again surfaced and become popular but there are several people who question the possible negative effects this option creates.
