With electronics becoming increasingly more pervasive as society transitions from an industrial age to an information age, an increasing number of adults in today's society have grown callous and lethargic. As technology permeates the everyday life of the average individual, the necessity of engaging in physical activity has dramatically declined. Every physically capable adult should adopt a fitness routine in order to live a happier and healthier lifestyle. A regular well-balanced fitness routine would help induce weight loss and help maintain a healthy physique. Furthermore, a routine would help decrease the chance of contracting an illness. Finally, a regular routine would help contribute to an improved quality of life through endorphins. …show more content…
Endorphins are a chemical that increase happiness and current state of mind. Many people have heard of the term “runner’s high” at some point in their lives, but never quite put any thought into it; in fact, many runners can confirm this state of mind does exist. The “runner’s high” is a result of the body producing an increased amount of endorphins. Often, this feeling will drive a new runner to continue, potentially even overworking themselves. This is why it is important for new runners to follow a proper, well-thought out routine. Outside of the physical activities, this transcendent state of mind produced by the endorphins can help motivate a person and make them feel more positive throughout the day. Ultimately, as society becomes more lethargic from technology consistently integrating further, the importance of adopting a fitness routine increases; especially, to maintain a healthier physique, increase their longevity, and introduce more endorphins. Every physically capable adult should adopt a fitness routine in order to live a happier and healthier lifestyle. Creating a fitness routine is easy enough that many adults can reap the benefits. These simple proactive, preventative measures will help improve the overall quality of life in the information
In the article “Fitness Culture: A Growing Trend in America by Sheila McClain, it speaks in detail why American have increased their interest in health and fitness. Sheila conducts a comprehensive research of the subject and provides strong statics and information from others. Since, we are an age of technology and everyone is more involved in learning we have learned that fitness matters and is a key link to good health.
While the runner finishes her swing and begins her run, chemical reactions are still occurring in her brain apart from her typical motor cortex and frontal lobe functions. The ones that keep her motivated to play and continue too, dopamine and serotonin are neurotransmitters in the brain that are released to the nervous system and serve as the natural reward system for the great hit. At the same time during these complex reactions, adrenaline, or epinephrine, is another hormone the body produces. This causes the batter’s heart rate to increase by increasing pressure in the coronary arteries as well as relaxing and contracting the muscles in the batter’s body. Furthermore adrenaline expands the lungs, which allows more air to come into the body, enlarges the pupils, allowing more light to come in, and maximizes glucose levels in the brain. No matter where you look, physics and science embodies the world, and the more we find out about the smaller, littler things like swinging a softball bat, the more we get an idea of the overall bigger picture of
Investigate the contemporary body of knowledge that underpins the current recommendations for exercise programming in the pursuit of improved health.
Many people have related runner's high to the feeling of an orgasm. At this time, the body and mind are both highly stimulated and seem to elevate a person's senses. Other people have responded to the question of "What is runner's high?" by saying that when the environmental stimuli around you is near perfect and you are feeling good you are actually feeling a type of "high". We must not overlook the facts though, which include physical and physiological details to back up feelings of runner's high. Throughout time, runner's high has been debated and there is still no general definition as to what it is, or even if it exists. Looking at different personal experiences and physical evidence one can generally conclude that runner's high is a state of euphoria caused by the environmental stimuli around the runner and the biological aspects of stress associated with running.
The problem is, is there a biochemical explanation for this "runner's high," or is it a purely psychological event (although one can also say psychology is biochemical)? Exercise addiction, similar to substance addiction, seems to suggest that jogger's euphoria could be biochemical. There have been accounts of runners who experience withdrawal symptoms when not exercising - such as edginess, anxiety, and other unpleasant feelings. Research shows that the body produces its own opiate-like peptides, called endorphins, and like morphine, they can cause dependence (Farrell et al. 1982). Thus, this is just one hint suggesting that these "endogenous morphine" compounds may be the chemicals causing all these psychological effects of exercise. In general, endorphins are known to be responsible for pain and pleasure responses in the central nervous system.
...uestion ultimately lead to the detrimental discovery of the natural pain-killing polypeptides in the brain. Endorphins are most heavily released in the human body during stressful events or in moments of great pain. Endorphins are the natural way of toning down pain responses without turning to heavy duty opiates such as heroin and methadone. The rush of endorphins into the system at such times is often felt as a queasy or nervous feeling in the stomach. Without endorphins acting as stabilizers in our brains, the world would be filled with stress and chaos. As well as stress relief and pain tolerance, endorphins also trigger a positive feeling in the body, similar to that of morphine. In my opinion the best, most effective way to trigger more release of endorphins is through exercise. Runner’s high is an effect way to get the same euphoric feeling from endorphins.

Exercise dependence is a craving that a person would experience, manifesting itself in the form of compulsiveness in relation to exercise behaviour. It can show in physiological symptoms, such as withdrawal, or psychological signs like anxiety and depression. (Hausenblaus, Downs. 2000). Some of these psychological symptoms can be observed in anyone who is competitive and/or elite in their chosen sport, but it may not necessarily mean that they are “addicted”. It is not nearly as likely to see such behaviours in moderate exe...
All in all, the rise of the fitness industry has impacted almost everyone in America, whether it means being more health conscious, body conscious, or fitness-a-phobic. This new fitness movement, if it continues growing at the rate it has been, will keep coming out with innovative ways to motivate the unmotivated into leading more active lifestyles. Ultimately this will lead to an American public that enjoys longer, healthier lives.
In a perfect world, each person would be fit and beach body ready all the time, but sadly in the United States that is not the case. The government and other organizations have stressed the importance of being healthy and the serious dangers that come with being overweight, yet the obesity rate continues to climb. The price of junk food and electronic devices, such as cell phones, is steadily declining while the price of healthy food and fitness machines are constantly on the rise. For example, a salad at McDonalds is more expensive than several burgers that are sold there. With these continuous changes, it has become challenging to maintain a healthy life style. Thankfully, gym memberships can help get people back on track and put an
Many studies have come to the conclusion that individuals who participate in health and wellness routines as well as a regular exercise program have a relatively increased degree of energy, lower healthcare bills, much better quality of life along with less stress, as well as improved health. Staying in good physical shape and healthy calls for everyone, to be conscious of their health, to be aware of the key fitness and health components and to follow them.
Boundless days of playing in the sun, this is something our generation has never begun. As we find pleasure in the latest trends, from game consoles to websites, the motivation for physical activity tragically fades into a dark abyss. Countless hours of hustle and bustle through ball games, playing tag, and riding bikes have suddenly been replaced by scrolling through twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. The exercise that our entire bodies once benefitted fr...

Running back and forth on the court is insanely satisfying when wanting to feel a rush not only because you’re tired, simply because you don’t want to lose during the game. An example would be if you’re on a basketball team, it’s championship game with 5 seconds left you’re team has the ball, your body starts feeling heavy from all the rush and a bit of nervousness you feel from not wanting to lose the game. This sport is the perfect example of feeling a great rush in your body not only physically but mentally.
During the semester, I learned a lot on how to deal with psychological distress and how as an athletic trainer I should deal with athletes to overcome their situation and be there for them. Throughout my time as an athletic training student, I always liked to observe my preceptors on how they deal with athletics that are having psychological distress after injuries, and how as an athletic trainer I should handle these situations in a professional manner. There is one situation in particular that occurred during the King’s College football season that I would like to discuss.
