This being my first year of teaching I feel there are so many things that I have learned, and have helped me too become a good teacher. Yet I have so much more to learn, I still believe that students have the ability to learn and as a teacher it is my job to find ways to help them to become the best person they can be. Through being a reflective teacher, using professionalism, respecting diversity and having collaboration and community connecting this can be accomplished. When I am having fun teaching the student will have learning that material, this will help them to be relaxed and engaged in that lesson. But I do feel that we are all there to help the students succeed. When I see a teacher not following the student 's IEP that is when I have to remember to take a step back and calm down and talk to them professionally and with respect. I remind them that that is the IEP and that 's what we need to do what it says. I feel the best way to show high ethical standard is to model it. When the students don 't have a good example set, they will follow the easy examples. If an educational teacher has her cell phone out in the middle of class, then the student may not be paying attention to the lesson, they maybe concentrating more on the cell phone and why it is okay for her to have it out. It is very important to not talk badly about the students or the teachers when you 're in a group. It your opinion of them and it may not be who they are if you 're having trouble with a student. I try to talk to a teacher everyday about different topics. By talking with other teachers who are in there first-year teachers or seasoned teachers they have different ways of seeing thing. These teachers give me a different thought on how to do certain lessons. I realized my classroom setting is different due to how low my students are compared to the rest, but they really helped me to understand how to bring common core standards down to the level that my students need to learn. Like I said before, I can be doing 4 different lessons at the same time, but we 're all still doing a main theme. I would use the ideas that she presented in the talk during my teaching assistant (T.A.) sessions by doing something as simple as standing up straight especially during the periods where I’ll be teaching a lesson since standing up straight is a type of high-power pose. Since high-power poses will lead to an increase in testosterone and a decrease in cortisol, I will be able to feel more dominating and less stressed during those sessions. I honestly think that due to the decrease of stress that resulted from doing high-power poses, I will be able to feel more confident in teaching a lesson and thus allowing myself to teach a lesson effectively.
Neither of my parents went to college after high school. My mom got married at 18 and had my oldest brother shortly after. My dad was 4 years older, but instead of going to school, he stayed home to stay with a girlfriend. His girlfriend broke up with him shortly after, and it seemed too late to go away to college. Eventually he met my mom and they married. Though neither of them attended college, both of them are extremely intellectual. My mother raised my older brother and sister until they were 14 and 12, then she had me and my younger sister. Therefor, my mother’s job was primarily her children. What things does the teacher actually do and say to create the tone? The tone of the class was calm, quiet, organized, and mutual respect. The classroom walls were decorated with bright colorful poster that illustrated positive and encouraging thoughts. The room was well organized; the students desks was spaces, and the floor was clean. As a Teacher Advisor to the Board of Education, I would provide insight from the classroom to policy discussions. In today’s society, whether you pursue an education or not may determine your future in many different ways. We all come from different backgrounds, which will either give us the inspiration to achieve our goals or stop us from even attempting our goals. People tend to not understand what a real education is and what it actually means to be educated. Well James Miller, editor of Acting Out Culture, instills that “The goal of education is to make students into critical thinkers, to foster a familiarity with diverse range of viewpoints, and to instill an appreciation for how varied and complex the world around us truly is” (315). My own perception of an education is that gives us the opportunity to achieve a successful and beneficial way of our goals. It also can show us a different way of living and how we perceive life.
My philosophical position as a pre service teacher is as follows, I believe that social learning and freedom are critical in teaching and learning. Social learning is learning and educating students at a wider scale than individual learning, social learning can be adapted in a class room through social interaction between peers. Social learning has a very important impact in our everyday lives, our world is a social place as individuals we spend most of our time as members of social groups, we normally do this unintentionally, an individual’s social success is based upon the quality of their social interactions. Freedom is the power to act or speak implying this in classrooms allows students to be able to make their own choices in our education and allows them to freely express themselves. The act of freedom is important within a classroom because it allows students to be able to express themselves and allows their peers to learn and understand knowledge from a different perspective.
Being a teacher is said to be just a job but to me teaching is “an instrumental or practical art” (Arends, 4) to create a more diverse way of learning. When I become a teacher I want it to be more than just a job I want it to be my life and something I’m proud of doing. Creating life and laughter in a classroom is going to be a part of my everyday teaching style. So many teachers have lost what it means to teach because they have lost the love for educating our youth. A learning environment full of curriculum but fun is something I will accomplish when I become part of the teaching profession because just like a beautiful work of art my teaching style will be a type of art in itself.
Through my O&P experience I learned how much a classroom setting can vary. I saw that classrooms vary through how the teachers approach differences among students and that if it is not handled well it can create inter-classroom feuding. However I also saw that in a well-structured class where there is little room to mess around and create these feuds there is respect between the students and the teacher and also respect from student to student. I found out that although this information should not affect the way we treat the students it is important for the teacher to know what percent of his classroom is in poverty, and it can also be helpful for the teacher to see what the demographics are like. Getting to hear Ms. Beckley speak about teaching was a really great experience for me as a future teacher. Because she is an experienced elementary educator, I can learn a great deal from her experiences and stories to help me develop these skills when I an a full time educator in the classroom. A few of the ideas that Ms. Beckley talked about that were very helpful and interesting to me were, the ides about how to deliver bad news to parents, as well as not to forget about all the good students within your classroom. I also learned about how to make students responsible for cleaning their learning space. Ms. Beckley also talked about how to work with a team in my future school. This week has been one of the most educational week of the summer. I strongly believe that receiving information on the positions we hope to obtain and heeding to the expectations from professionals who are seeking employees to work in their campus, is imperative information that prospecting teachers and administrators essentially need. My eighth grade history teacher Mrs.Harris is my mentor, she taught me at Heritage Middle School, in East Cleveland. This is also how we met and where we had met at. She was in was in her late fifties, brown-skinned, and short. Mrs. Harris always wore something nice, she was such a wonderful person. She made history fun. She had a different bond with all her students, everyone loved her. She was never upset she always had a smile on her face, and she also loved to joke around. Being a teacher isn’t easy, especially working in East Cleveland schools. But somehow Mrs.Harris made it seem so easy, There is not one student who she ever had a conflict with. I could never understand how she never got mad at any of us, she would never yell. Even when dealing with some of the bad kids who like to act up, she was still calm and was able to calm them down. Our relationship was just teacher and student, although that was just our relationship Mrs.Harris helped with a lot of my problems in school and out of school. She was very caring person, and she loved her cat and daughter she would tell us stories about them all the time.
It is no surprise, that the term education has become one of the most decisive factors in the level of success that a particular person experiences.
