In today’s society, whether you pursue an education or not may determine your future in many different ways. We all come from different backgrounds, which will either give us the inspiration to achieve our goals or stop us from even attempting our goals. People tend to not understand what a real education is and what it actually means to be educated. Well James Miller, editor of Acting Out Culture, instills that “The goal of education is to make students into critical thinkers, to foster a familiarity with diverse range of viewpoints, and to instill an appreciation for how varied and complex the world around us truly is” (315). My own perception of an education is that gives us the opportunity to achieve a successful and beneficial way of our goals. It also can show us a different way of living and how we perceive life.
Depending on where you originate from may impart your own education in many ways. A poor neighborhood educated student is less likely to be as educated as a student from a wealthy student environment. Poor neighborhoods are less likely to have more experienced and advanced teachers, which puts the lower income students

Based on where I have grown up around, I learned that not many people have a college education. I noticed the contest struggles that are presented to them and noticed I can’t see myself in that predicament. Daily, I use where I come from and motivate and teach myself that I’m capable of anything, and the world is mine. I realized that opportunities don’t appear without hard working. So I plan to apply myself within education for future opportunities. I believe that’s a huge problem in today’s society. Everyone wants to live in lavish, but apparently not many take advantage of the opportunities presented in front of them. This is why, the world we live in is complicated and all that are intelligent aren’t putting their good brains to extra
I believe that the purpose of education is to produce the next generation of leaders who are intelligent and have great character. This idea is supported in the article “The Purpose of Education” by Martin Luther King. Martin Luther King Jr. was a civil rights activist who fought for black and white people to have equal rights in America. He writes about the true purpose, and meaning of education in the article by saying, “Education must enable one to sift and weigh evidence, to discern the true from the false, the real from the unreal, and the facts from the fiction (MLK1).” This quote from the article explains that being academically educated is very important. It will help people stand up, be a leader, and take charge to make the world a better place for everyone. That gallant leader will argue against the fallacy, lies,
Pursuing a higher education is a way of bettering yourself for the world. By bettering yourself, you can impact and change the lives of others, helping with education and being involved in the quality in which others learn to live. Higher education can help to create a work environment that will impact you and your family. Better education also means better wages to extend the value of your education by increasing your yearly income.
I was born into poverty even before I was even born. My way of life was set even before my existence. Growing up I was strongly encouraged to dedicate my energy into my school work. Knowing that someday all that hard work and dedication will one day pay off. It wasn’t until my senior year of high school when I realized the true importance of going on to college really was. The only reason I excelled in my studies was because I was always enforced too, so when it came down to my decision to continue school I didn’t know what to do. I decided that even with a degree in today’s economy it won’t have much of an impact. But I couldn’t have been more wrong than ever. I eventually came to my own senses and decided for myself that all my years of being in school, planning for my future, long hours of hard work and perseverance shouldn’t go to waste. I shouldn’t waste my own intelligence and give up on what’s important. For me, a lower class civilian, the American dream is very much alive and achievable. And it guarantees a better life for me in the future. I decided to go to college because although I knew I should continue my education, I never realized how important it was for my future and well-being to have that knowledge and use it to better use. Although I may not come from wealth and will have to work twice as hard as the rest, I believe that as long as I remain
It is easy to think college is not worth the cost to become better, but getting educated molds a better person, and creates happier people in the future and occasionally they become better in health (Leonhardt 25 ). Becoming a better and happier person is pleasing for everyone. Even former President Obama says “‘Education helps us be better people. It helps us be better citizens. You came to college to learn about the world and to engage with new ideas and to discover the things you're passionate about -- and maybe have a little fun’” (Procon.org). Learning and engaging in everything is a skill everyone should have, so like he said we should go to college to be able to do that. Additionally, education shows people to develop more intellectual skill and become more responsible (Pew Social and Demographic Trends). Thus said, being educated and smart is something everyone can do and college helps with that. Likewise, college can encourage someone to be more educated and happier. Reaching the point of happier and more educated is worth the cost.
An education is something that one can keep with them for a lifetime. In order to gain a full successful life, one must first gain the background knowledge on how to do so. Education is one of the most important tools that a society possesses. How much one gets from their education comes from how much effort they put into it. Unfortunately, nowadays kids growing up take the education they are being offered for granted. Some students now do not live up to their full potential because some just choose not to. They are just not as fascinated or eager to learn like students were back then. Not all people understand the inevitable role of education, some people
An education is something that one can keep for a lifetime. Acquiring a good education can affect one’s personal life, one’s community, and one’s entire generation.
This being my first year of teaching I feel there are so many things that I have learned, and have helped me too become a good teacher. Yet I have so much more to learn, I still believe that students have the ability to learn and as a teacher it is my job to find ways to help them to become the best person they can be. Through being a reflective teacher, using professionalism, respecting diversity and having collaboration and community connecting this can be accomplished. When I am having fun teaching the student will have learning that material, this will help them to be relaxed and engaged in that lesson. I feel it is important to connect what they are learning to things that they have experienced in the real-world.
One topic I enjoyed in this class was social interaction and social structure. Social interaction is how we interact with others in the world. Social structure is our status in the world. The one thing that stood out to me was the three different statuses. Ascribed status is a part of us, something that will never go away. My ascribed status is that I am an African American woman. Achieved status is the things we accomplish in life and put effort into. These are the things we freely do. My achieved status would be when I was in High School and I volunteered to mentor small kids at an elementary school. Also when I help my Aunt every year with grading her papers and helping her teach at her school. Master status is the status that makes up your
My cooperating teacher has been employed in the field of education for 19 plus years. She has been in her current position as a Pre-Kindergarten teacher at the Lighthouse Learning Center for 12 years. Observing a teacher who has so many years of experience in the classroom is very beneficial. She shared with me this week her teaching philosophy that has evolved from her many years in the classroom. The components of her philosophy include a focus on people, strategies, and tools.
In the social aspect of my life education will give me a better understanding on how to communicate to people effectively. I will understand what is happening around me. For example voting, I will have enough knowledge to carefully choose the candidate I will vote for. I will know what to consider in choosing the right candidate to serve and protect our country. I will be able to understand the social issues that our country is facing and will be capable to help in my own little way. However, it is apparent in this competitive world that most of the successful person have the proper education especially the higher position in society they have proved that education will give you the edge in life.
Education is a very powerful key to success in modern day American society. More often than not, a person will not be able to find a decent job unless they have graduated from a reputable college with a degree. Because of this change in society, it has brought a lot of pressure by parents for their child to graduate and get a degree. A lot of those who graduate with a degree are not always the best candidate for the job, and even with the degree, they are not even always guaranteed a job. But personally, getting an education shouldn’t be as big of a deal, as it is now. Back in the day, most people did not go to college, none the less graduated from high school; yet they still made it through and learned lots of things from their jobs that they acquired.
The two philosophies that I have chosen to write about for my Education Philosophy Paper includes progressivism and existentialism. Progressivism focuses on the child rather than the subject matter. Due to society always changing, new ideas are important to make the future better than the past for students learning. This educational philosophy stresses that students should test ideas by active experimentation. Learning is rooted in the questions of learners that arise through experiencing the world. Progressivists believe that individuality, progress, and change are fundamental to one 's education. Existentialism is a highly subjective philosophy that stresses the importance of the individual and emotional commitment to living authentically. It emphasizes individual choice over
With, knowledge acquired from school, anyone’s mind will expand, to hold in all that was learned from the years of teaching. While in school, one can obtain a great personality, by having the need for friendship with people who have a common interest. Thus, a personality is formed and impacted by relationships and events that occur during school. Being taught information for so long, people tend to become more enlightened to multiple subjects. Then knowing multiple subjects, such as but not limited to geography, sociology, psychology, engineering, accounting, and philosophy. Education provides all of this. they would have to be relentless to reach the level of a doctorate, which essentially means a specialist in a specific field. When it comes to being able to execute any task, growing into a productive member of society, and success in one’s life, education will always be no matter what be beneficial and important. It allows for business owners to improve their companies, and rocket scientists to build or design rockets for a paycheck. Therefore, everyone should agree that education is
Education is man’s most valuable possession: it is the concept through which one’s love for learning stems, and the equipment used to pave an individual’s path to success. Although easily influenced by the opinions of others, education is one of the few concepts that neither internal nor external stress can strip from our being. The future of our society lies in the hands of our educators; the values and morals instilled by such figures govern the actions of the earth’s people.
Education is not just what your major is, it is also what you learn along the way. It's about learning about life and who you are. All the while becoming specialized so that you may contribute to yourself and society. It's a journey, and for those of us fortunate enough to embark on that journey I hope that we make the most of it.
