I would use the ideas that she presented in the talk during my teaching assistant (T.A.) sessions by doing something as simple as standing up straight especially during the periods where I’ll be teaching a lesson since standing up straight is a type of high-power pose. Since high-power poses will lead to an increase in testosterone and a decrease in cortisol, I will be able to feel more dominating and less stressed during those sessions. I honestly think that due to the decrease of stress that resulted from doing high-power poses, I will be able to feel more confident in teaching a lesson and thus allowing myself to teach a lesson effectively.
After viewing the Fear, Anxiety and Tension Workshop videos, I now realize that sometimes students may develop a learning disability based off of how the teacher acts, responses, and teaches his/her class. Another key factor that can affect a student’s ability to learn is what teachers say and how they say it. This is one concept that I plan to focus a great deal on, because I do not be the one to hinder my students from learning what they need to know in order to move forward. In each video, the instructor’s tone of voice and choice of words stood out to me. The students in the class felt very threatened by the teacher and so did I and I wasn’t even in the classroom. I definitely would not be able to learn with that style of teaching
The lessons that was most significant and beneficial to me where the HBTL and MWGYW approach. The MWGYW approach had a huge emotional impact on my presentation which in turn helped highlight the lesson. My biggest concern had always been not to confront to the point of offending anyone and the HBLT approach was perfect in addressing this issue, it provided accommodations of teaching rather than preaching and this particular approach made the presentation a lot easier to give without making the audience feel as if they were being singled out, attacked, judged or confronted.
Just this past year she has be using stretches in the beginning of class to have her students’ prepare for the classroom learning. I personally believe that collaborating with her I can gain new ideas and see what works well for her students and what does not work well. During this activity, I conducted a full clinical supervision cycle on a first grade practicing teacher. During the observation, I noted some behavior management concerns that my understanding of my leadership role. By completing the observation I was able to see areas that needed improvement in order to maintain high standards of instruction. When we met at the post conference, I was able to learn how to set and maintain high instructional standards for the students while continuing to keep an open trusting relationship with the teacher. I have learned that I want teaches to feel that we are collaboratively working towards our vision, not teachers versus the administrator.

I chose ethics and collaboration particularly because I believe they are the foundation to the work of a BA. While learning how to apply the ABA strategies will come over time. I believe that my current strengths lie in my ability to collaborate with others. I am comfortable asking questions and realize that I still have a lot to learn. I will seek support from my supervisor and collaborate with co-workers to ensure I am always providing services that are in the best interest of the client.
While observing my MT I noticed she favors the lecture style of teaching. The kids are not very engaged because they can only sit still and listen for a while even in a 6th grade classroom. I noticed a majority of the students in my field classroom like to move around and I think that helps them stay focused, however when they have to sit on the carpet and listen to my MT they become restless. On several occasions I have observed my MT engaging the students by calling on them to read out loud or every few paragraphs ask questions during their reading block. Addtionally, I will make sure that my body language is not threatening or aggressive towards the student. By titlting my head, opening my palms, nodding my head, and smiling, I hope to show the student that I am there to help them and guide them into a better mindset. Lastly, if the student needs more time to calm down, I will offer him/her to either write down theiir thoughts and feelings at their desk or they may go to a place in the back of the classroom to calm down. I will offer to speak to them afterclass afterschool, or another time we can arrange. I will also offer the options of leaving the classroom to see a counselor or sitting in another teacher's classrooom (prearranged) to change the environment for them in order to calm
It is hard to believe we already made it to the mid point of practicum. My practicum has been such a great experience thus far, and I imagine it will only continue to improve. I am at Simmons Middle School currently, interning under Heather Aldentaler. The school is grades 6 through 8. I have been working mostly with the 6th and 7th grade. But, have worked with the 8th graders a few times. Heather and I have been counseling more in the classroom setting. I am looking forward to working with the students more one on one. When I made the decision to change from mental health to school counseling, I was a bit nervous at first. I never imagined working with children, now I can’t imagine not working with children.
My job as a teacher assistant at Cross Creek Elementary School has many components. I spend two hours at the elementary school a day for five days a week. I work in a fourth grade class that teaches three subjects. These subjects are math, science, and social studies. I help assist my teacher with several tasks in the classroom during this time there.
In Chapter One, it introduces us to research methods in the Criminal Justice field by explaining to us how we create such data, examine data and present data. It teaches us that we learn from things we have direct experience also from certain things we are taught from others that we are supposed to believe because it makes the most sense to us. These two ideas are called experiential realities and agreement reality. In experiential reality the example to understand it would be touching a stove. If the stove is hot and you see fire, it is dangerous and should not be played with but if it is cold and there is no fire visible then it is safe to be around. In agreement reality, we are told certain information and we are supposed to believe it. For example, we are told that the sun sets in the west and we have nine planets but it is hard to argue that both of those examples are accurate because everyone agrees.
Over the course of observations, I learned that there is no one way to do anything in teaching. After a few weeks of observing, I was relieved because I thought that I could stop worrying so much about doing the “right” thing with the students. I saw a successful teacher doing, or neglecting to do things that went against what I had been taught. I incorrectly assumed that the choices the teacher made about how to organize the day, approach a lesson, or manage the classroom were mostly a matter of personal preference and that several approaches would produce equally desirable results.
I attended the District 135 School Board meeting on April 13, 2015. The meeting was held at seven, but I also attended a finance meeting at six. The meeting was held at the Administration center located on 15100 S 94th Avenue in Orland Park. I had a great experience at the meeting because it helped me see, from a first hand experience, how much really goes into running the schools especially the financial aspect. I was astonished to see how many members of the community actively participate and are present at the meetings. Education has always been a priority in my life, and it seems like a vast majority of members in the community share that priority as well.
The opportunity to observe and participate in the teaching practice weeks prove to be immensely beneficial for me as a student teacher who seemingly started off with little practical knowledge about teaching.
