I have learned from you that as writers, we need to stop time to time to refresh our minds, and reflect on what we are writing. Then, when we go back to write with new energies that will help us to correct grammars, incomplete thoughts, add new ideas, and delete unnecessary information in our papers. My writing style has a little difference compare to you. I usually create mind map to brain storm my ideas on the topic, and my outline will base on the mind map. I don’t know why I rarely take small breaks while writing because I scare that I will lose my thoughts. Therefore, I usually spend many hours to write my paper without stopping. After reading your writing, I am changing my writing habits that I need to take small breaks because taking
Writing essays was never my forte, it just never came easy to me like it would to others. Since other subjects came easy to me and I had to focus more than others on writing, I had a negative attitude toward the process as a whole. During this summer semester, I was able to grow as a writer, and gain a more positive attitude toward how I write and a better feel for writing in college. Writing a paper is a process in which there are many different stages. In high school I would never write outlines or any sort of pre planning work. Other struggles I encountered in my writing were my theses, and framing quotes.
The art of writing is a complex and difficult process. Proper writing requires careful planning, revision, and proofreading. Throughout the past semester, the quality of my writing has evolved significantly. At first, I struggled with the separation of different types of paragraphs, and I found writing them laborious. Constant practice, however, has eliminated many of my original difficulties, and helped to inspire confidence in my skills.
There are a number of factors that have influenced my writing today. I consider writing as one of the most tedious tasks. When given writing work, I tend to find it difficult to gather all my thoughts. The anxiety of what the outcome might be has always hindered my thinking and has thus led to my procrastination. I often feel that the rules that accompany writing is frustrating, like keeping up with the word limit, grammar and time management. However, I feel that the environment where I did most of my writing is mainly responsible for my writing toda...
I was more confident in my writing because I learned to improve my writing by making outline prior to beginning a paper. Without an outline, I would lose track of my thoughts, I would ramble and make common mistakes; it would be catastrophic. The purpose of an outline is similar to having d...
Even when I do choose my own topic, I analyze each sentence as I compose an essay instead of simply writing the paper. In Honors Writing, Mrs. Templin told me to sit for at least twenty minutes, with no distractions, and type everything that comes to mind. Type now, edit later. I still struggle with this method because procrastination is another huge weakness of mine, and editing takes more time than writing. My philosophy used to be that if I could write a paper beautifully the first time, edits were unnecessary. After receiving grades I did not like, however, I realized the importance of taking the time to fully revise my writing. Now, editing is the fun part of writing because the writing is, for the most part, finished. Few activities are more satisfying than finding that misplaced comma, misspelled word, or misplaced modifier. It can get complicated when I have to change, move, or delete entire sentences, but I would rather fix a few sentences than write an entire paper the night before it is due. The “type now, edit later” method is significantly easier than my previous writing methods, because I could put my thoughts down quickly. Releasing thoughts is, of course, the first and most important step in constructing an essay. I still struggle sometimes to stop analyzing sentences, but I am seeing
Writing a decent essay can be nerve racking, time consuming, and can be accompanied by many trial and errors such as an art project. First you have to generate an idea, which can be the biggest challenge of them all. Then you have to decide on what details to incorporate and the placement for it. You begin to throw colors and shapes together in hopes that it will transform into a pleasing design. This all takes time, being challenged to create artwork, whether it be an essay or a painting, in sixty minutes becomes even more nerve racking and mind boggling. After last week’s timed writing practice, I was able to experience the dreadful event of producing a piece of artwork, which in my case was to deliver an essay,
Writing has been part of my life ever since I learned how to spell my first words. As I use the writing process I had to evolve and learn grammar, orthodoxy, and punctuation. I learned all this in my language which is Spanish. The writing rules are very different in different languages and after having an idea on how to write in English, I always refer back to what I learned in my early years. As I write in English I have faced many challenges to include learning to think in English before I write. I am use to think in Spanish and therefore the words flow as a river with minimum effort on my part. I have tried to think in Spanish, translate my thoughts and then writing in English but has proven to be the most difficult process to follow. As I wrestled with the idea of writing in English and learning to think in English, my writing has become better with each assignment. As I reflect on how my writing has evolved, it is my intention to compare how the different tools and genres of writing had helped me write academically papers and how I expect to continue to better myself for mu future, even after I graduate from college.
this area but I’m going to improve on it. The process of using multiple drafts has
Multiple essays have been formulated during the duration of Composition 1. These essays have taught me an important lesson about my writing, failure is acceptable in order to grow. On the other hand, I made an important discovery last year that I want to study journalism and advance further in that field after college. From taking journalism classes, to blogging in my spare time, to always getting an A on my papers, I thought I had no room to improve. I was mistaken. Therefore, because of the rigorous essay work each essay brought, I learned more about how to write different pieces and grow from my “failure”.
As an emerging leader whose desire is to see progress in his/her organization change is inevitable and necessary. Although change is an important component of moving forward and growing a lot of people resist change, this resistance can be contributed to our fear of the unknown which is what change represent to many people. Hence, when it comes to implementing change it would be best to start off by recognizing and identify what needs to be change ad how to bring about that change. You can’t convince others to go on a journey if you are not aware where you are going.
Business Writing Developing a Professional Writing Style Rupa Subramanian M/W 1:10 [Introduction] My writing style and attitude towards writing have changed a lot from when I completed my undergraduate degree to when I started business school last May. There have been many factors that have impacted my writing and have led to strengths in some types of writing and weaknesses in others. The following paper outlines how my family and culture, work experience, and personality have influenced and shaped my writing style. My goal by the end of this paper is to understand these factors, reflect on the impact, and make a course of action to allow me to become a well-rounded writer.
At the start of this class, I made a goal to develop my writing skills to better prepare me for other courses for my degree. I knew English 106 would be different compared to any other English or college courses that I have taken. I knew English 106 environment will let me grow in diverse writing dimensions. My long serving years of experience in the military has exposed me to many cultures around the globe. In just seven weeks of the course, I have seen some improvement in my writing. This course has afforded me with several techniques that have made writing not only a little bit easier but also more in-depth resulting in a higher level of academic writing versus my normal military style writing. Now I understand the writing process and
Style is something everyone has. From our clothes and hair to the type of cars we drive and things we buy, style is a part of our everyday life. Writing is one of the many ways people can express their personal style. I will share with you what I believe style is as well as the areas I strive and lack in my personal style. Hopefully I can help you achieve a new stylish way to write.
Writing for me has always been a love and hate relationship since I could remember. Depending on the subject matter that I was writing about I would enjoy it because it suited my style or I loathed it because that specific style was uninteresting and boring to me. Learning certain writing formats were absolutely the worst part about writing when I first started learning in high school. As time pushed on and I grew older I began to develop an appreciation for writing that I did not have before; which is what led me to taking Writing 101 as my first full-fledged college course. I began this course with minimal writing experience because of what I failed to retain before, but now I am a stronger writer than I could have imagined with new skill sets that enhance my professional portfolio.
When I write a paper, I usually tend to write and edit at the same time. I could never continue writing without correcting my mistakes and making sure everything seems perfect. However, throughout this course, it made me realize that I should write everything on my mind, when writing a paper, just like I would in my notes. Later on, I should revise and edit my paper, making sure to cut back ideas and sentences that are off topic. Additionally, I’m the type of person that likes to write with no boundaries. Writing my research argument essay, made me realize that I could stick to a structure and yet bend the rules a little bit. When we started with this assignment, I was truly excited to research and write about a topic that I am passionate about. When we were asked to form an outline, I was bummed. I felt like I wasn’t able to form ideas or narrow down my topic, let alone write...
