[Introduction]
My writing style and attitude towards writing have changed a lot from when I completed my undergraduate degree to when I started business school last May. There have been many factors that have impacted my writing and have led to strengths in some types of writing and weaknesses in others. The following paper outlines how my family and culture, work experience, and personality have influenced and shaped my writing style. My goal by the end of this paper is to understand these factors, reflect on the impact, and make a course of action to allow me to become a well-rounded writer.

From the Myers Briggs assessment, I learned that my personality type indicator is ISFJ meaning Introverted, Sensing, Feeling and Judging. ISFJ personality types are known to be quiet, loyal and kind. They are sensitive and aware of others feelings and emotions (ISFJ- The "Defender", n.d.). Furthermore, when it comes to ISFJs’ writing style, they tend to work best in quiet environments, do not follow rigid outlines, like step by step instructions, and often do not seek feedback (Fabrizio, n.d.). All these attributes reflect my personality and below I will explain how these personality traits have impacted my writing …show more content…
Next I usually try to make the flow happen without doing a formal outline after. However, according to the article by McIver, it is important for ISFJ personality types to do an outline after writing down the facts first (McIver). Therefore, I will start doing an outline after I finish my first draft and read it outload to ensure smooth transitions and that the flow is logical.
• Proofreading for tone and grammar: I will focus on proofreading my documents thoroughly before sending them out. I will proofread all documents at least three times and each time will focus on targeting different items to fix. The three items I will focus on are logic, tone and grammar. This method was recommended in our course textbook “Writing that Works” and I like that it breaks down exactly what you are looking for each time a document is reviewed (Walter E. Oliu, 2016). It is more goal oriented approach to proofreading which is something I know I will do and is in line with my personality. For each item this is what I will be looking
Personally, I cannot identify my exact writing style. I do write with clear, concise, fluidity; however, I have no sense of “personal style.” I construct each written assignment with the intention of being blunt and supporting my assertions with facts and details that will strengthen my argument. After reading Ch. 1 “The Transaction” I agree with that Zinsser proposes: my writing reflects who I am as a person (5). I am blunt and to the point. I get tasks done in the most efficient way. Maybe my personality does come through in my writing more than I thought.
“Style” strives to explain how writers can improve clarity, cohesion, usage, and elegance to become a more effective writer. This book is not meant to be read once, for the full potential can not be achieved unless it is absorbed several times. Packed from cover to cover with real life examples ranging from the worst imaginable to greatly improved, Williams provides a detailed explanation of how to transform any writers work. Charts, graphs, and diagrams may add some confusion but can be helpful for individuals who depend upon visual aids.
The Myers-Briggs Type indicator is an instrument designed to measure the elements of Jungian personality theory and makes the theory of psychological type both understandable and highly practical by helping individuals identify their preferences in four areas. According to the MBTI, I have a moderate preference for Introversion, a clear preference for Sensing, a slight preference for Feeling, and a clear preference for Judging (ISFJ). In general, ISFJs are sympathetic, loyal, considerate, conscientious, and will go through any amount of trouble to help those in need (Hirsh&Kummerow,1989).
The art of writing is a complex and difficult process. Proper writing requires careful planning, revision, and proofreading. Throughout the past semester, the quality of my writing has evolved significantly. At first, I struggled with the separation of different types of paragraphs, and I found writing them laborious. Constant practice, however, has eliminated many of my original difficulties, and helped to inspire confidence in my skills. As a collegiate writer, my strength lies in my clear understanding of the fundamentals of writing, while my primary weakness is proofreading my own work.
The Myers-Briggs Personality Test shows which of the sixteen personality types a person resembles the closest. The test revealed that I am an ISTJ. Within those categories, I am 28% introvert, 28% sensing, 25% thinking, and 62% judging. By examining each category separate, I will determine what each category says about me and give examples of how each one relates to my personal and work life.
The Blake and Mouton Leadership grid studies how leaders help an organization through concern for production and/or concern for people and is based on a nine point scale
People who have the ISFJ personality are generally exceptionally observant of everything around them. ISFJs can usually tell someone else’s emotional state, and if it is a terrible state, ISFJs try to be there for the person and try to support them. ISFJs are happy to comfort people and are excessively reliable when it comes to friends and family. ISFJ personality is also enthusiastic with their words and actions in front of loved ones. The imaginative side they hold also adds to their enthusiasm.
According to Jung/Meyers-Briggs personality indicator, I am introverted, sensing, feeling and judging in short ISJF. They are protectors, they primarily focus is the safety and security of those they care about. I believe that the test was fairly on target, I tend to lead my emotions by the impressions I see in the world. I’m extremely loyal to those I love and without a doubt would do almost anything for them. I find myself putting others before me and in the end I neglect my self which can manifest itself in being emotional. In an article written by Marina Margaret Heiss states,
The Jung Typology Test revealed my personality to be an ISFJ. I was found to be 28% Introvert, 9% Senseing, 19% Feeling and 31% Judging. Based on these results, I was able to find that I am considered a SJ group, or Security Seeking. Moreover, I was found to be considered a protector. "Good introductory paragraph
The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator is a personality report that gives you a better understanding of how to react in different situations based on five personality dimensions. Knowing your personality characteristics will help you better understand your actions, feelings, and relationships with others. My type was ISFJ introverting, sensing, feeling and judging. This suggests that focus my energy inward toward thoughts and ideas, process information in an exact, detailed and literal manner, I make value-based decisions based on empathy and compassion and I approach life in a planned, organized and orderly approach (Golden, 2011). These results coincide with the way I react in different situations. This was by far one of the more detailed assessments
My personality was ISFJ which stands for Introversion, Sensing, Feeling, and Judging. I plan to discuss all four characteristics in this paper. The theories I plan to talk about in my paper are Psychodynamic, Social Cognitive, and Trait.
One must remember that writing style is not something that just happens, but rather something that is developed. With the help of guides like Elements of Style, or books like Style Toward Clarity and Grace, one can begin to develop one.
My confirmed personality type according to the Myers–Briggs Type Indicator is INTJ, which stands for; Introversion, Intuition, Thinking, and Judging. Introverted people are comfortable being alone
My personality type is INTJ. The acronym stands for introverted intuitive thinking judging. Although I am an introvert, this does not mean that I do not like people. I do enjoy interacting with people on some occasions, but I enjoy it even more having time to myself. Like extraverts, Introverts have several unique traits.
My personal type is ISFJ-A according to Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). In this test’s result, my strengths are kind-hearted, hard-working, devoted, and I have the practical sense. I value harmony and cooperation. I do not agree a nuisance and an objective manner. I am very sensitive what other people feel or hope. I am also aware of my internal emotion. I do not express my feeling usually, I keep my head cool. I make an effort to accomplish various missions for work. I have a strong sense of responsibility. I am a highly organized person, so I do not like to delay the due date. I love to care for others who need me. On the other hand, my weaknesses are shy, altruistic, and reluctant to change. I do not like to express my true feeling,
