The Typical Traits & Life Strategies of The INTJ Personality Rachel Fremont University of The People Abstract This paper researches the typical traits of the INTJ personality type according to the Myers–Briggs Type Indicator. Additionally, I will be discussing the opposite personality of INTJ, type ESFP. I will detail two past experiences where my INTJ personality posed problems. This paper will also explore strategies that may benefit the INTJ personality type, myself included. Introverted people are comfortable being alone and working on personal projects. INTJ personalities are also intuitive; they enjoy new things and focus on the big picture. Unfortunately, their intuitive ways can cause INTJ personalities to have trouble making their dreams and innovations a reality. The thinking aspect of the INTJ personality makes them good at recognizing patterns and accomplishing tasks, but they can lack social graces and can come off as uncaring. Extroverted people are more socially oriented. ESFP personalities are also sensory based; remembering events as snapshots with a tendency to be pragmatic. (Martin, 1997) They are often in-tune with their feelings which can lead them to be empathetic and tactful communicators, but struggle with addressing conflict. Having completed the Myers-Briggs Personality Test previously, I was identified as an INTP, which stands for introverted, intuitive, thinking, and perceiving. Accordingly, this personality is often labeled as “The Architect” or “The Logician.” Despite my previous results, I repeated the test as instructed in the assignment. Consequently, based on the outcome of the test, my personality has altered in the past year. Thus, my updated results based on this analysis were, INTJ (introverted, intuitive, thinking, and judging). However, the two personalities are similar, as only one trait seems to have varied. By being an INTP, I have interpreted why some things work in my favor. Being a perceiver allows me to embrace change while keeping any ill-thoughts (regarding changes I do not agree with) to myself. This personality blend, also, allows me to participate in group settings when brainstorming is needed, and having a lower preference in introversion grants me just enough patience to play along with the extroverts to complete the task. When putting two letters together, I have better understood my temperament. “Temperament arises from the regulation of arousal and emotion reliably producing characteristic, habitual responses to experience”, and mine is Intuitive Thinking (NT), so I create many options in my head (Blandin, K., February 2013, para. 4). On the other hand, my personality leads me to situations where I make irrational decisions because I’m not granted enough time to think everything through. The Myers-Briggs Type indicator is an instrument designed to measure the elements of Jungian personality theory and makes the theory of psychological type both understandable and highly practical by helping individuals identify their preferences in four areas. According to the MBTI, I have a moderate preference for Introversion, a clear preference for Sensing, a slight preference for Feeling, and a clear preference for Judging (ISFJ). In general, ISFJs are sympathetic, loyal, considerate, conscientious, and will go through any amount of trouble to help those in need (Hirsh&Kummerow,1989).
The bases of this paper will be based on the results that I had obtained when I took the Myers-Briggs personality test. The results that I had obtained was that I was determined to be an ENFJ. I will go into depth about letter and how each represents that a specific aspect of my personality. The results that I had received were not what I had expected, but the more I read about the trait the more I realized how it suited me. I will also talk about the information that I had found useful from the book, Type Talk at Work: How the 16 Personalities Types Determine Your Success on the Job by Otto Kroeger, which gave me insight on how to interact with other personality types especially in the work environment. The information that I absorbed from the personality test and from the book will go into use in my personal and work life so that both environments will be cohesive and peaceful.
According to Carl Jung’s typology theory each individual develops personal preferences which become the foundation for how they face life’s challenges and interact with others. Based on this knowledge Isabel Briggs Myers developed the Myers-Briggs Type indicator (MBTI). This test helps individuals identify and study their individual preference and those of others. After taking the Jung Typology Test, which is based on the MBTI, it was confirmed that my four dominate personality preferences are Introversion, iNtuition, Thinking and Judging. As an ESFP you are an extraverted, sensing, feeling, and perceiving person. You tend to play a lot of situations by your gut feeling then thinking the situation out. An ESFP does not like being crossed. They may hold grudges on a lot of situation after being crossed. An ESFP is very social and like to be around people. They tend to be the peacemakers in a lot of situations. The ESFP likes to be the center of the universe. The ESFP would like life to be a continual party.
My results said that I have an ISFJ personality. My scores were introvert (56%), Sensing (31%), Feeling (16%), and Judging (44%). The assessment stated that ISFJs frequently find themselves in occupations that either involves a lot of dealings with other people and require thoroughness and persistence. They work in organizations of various sizes and industries, where as a rule they work with people. Very often ISFJs recognize their potential in healthcare (nurse, patient care, and medical services, as well as administrative jobs) and several community care organizations. I do agree with some of the Jung Typology Seal assessments. I agree with being an introvert since I am a person that is reserved and to myself half of the time, but, on the other hand, I do like to serve others. I do not agree that I am overworked. If I get to the point to where I feel overworked, I will go to my boss and discuss the matter, so that I can get help with my work before resulting in some of extent psychosomatic illnesses. I agree with the part about working best with a small group or one-on-one situation. Upon taking the Myers Briggs personality test on the human metrics website I was not surprised that I received the conclusion of an ENTJ or “the natural born leader”. The role of an ENTJ is that you conduct yourself in a manner that is very logical and rational (“Personality”). The Myers Briggs Type Indicator test has been around for over 65 years and has continually evolved to become more accurate in identifying personality traits. I find that the ENTJ type of personality reflections are accurate due to the fact that I am a no nonsense type of leader that likes to take charge and get the job done. There are 16 different personality types a person might have. The paper goes over my personality type of Introvert Sensing Thinking Judging (ISTJ). I explain how important personality types are for organization, how I personally deal with coworkers, and how I can use these different types to become a better employee. My personality type is Extroverted, intuitive, feeling, perceptive or ENFP. According to the description in the exercise, ENFP's are warm, enthusiastic and live their outer life more with intuition and their inner more with feeling. This assessment is consistent with the results that I received in part I of the exercise. I am an extroverted person who enjoys being around and working with people.

I am an ISTJ with unique personality strengths and weaknesses. My strengthens are being hardworking, productive, efficient, and driven (Kroeger, Thuesen, & Rutledge, 2002, p. 306). In opposition, being compulsive, inexpressive, and driven by routines are my weaknesses (Kroeger et al, 2002, pp. 308-309).
