When reviewing the results for the Strength Finder Quiz (Gallup, 2010) I was pleased to see that I had a good understanding of where my strengths are and knowing they are being used regularly. The quiz showed that my five greatest strengths are Ideation, Input, Realtor, Activator, and Command. At the current position I am in at work I am able to be really productive based on the skill set that I have. Beginning with Ideation and Input, I am able to find connections in issues that arise that seem to have nothing in common and offering suggestions to resolve and keep the information stored to help with similar issues that may arise (Gallup, 2012, para 5&6). two strengths to my job was when a partner that my company supplies insurance with had problems with enrollments. Prior to the issue we had changed the provider of the coverage and had to change the enrollment codes. Normally this would not cause an issue and therefore it was overlooked. When I was asked to look into why the enrollments were not being processed I determined that due to the way the coverage was billed there could not be more than one provider. This caused the enrollments to fail by stating the customer already had the coverage. Working with the IT department at my job I was able to provide suggestions that corrected the problem. Now when a change occurs in the codes used to enroll products this change is tested before allowing the agents to enroll the coverage. When looking at my relationships in and out of work I do tend to pull to people I already know as outlined in the Realtor trait (Gallup, 2012, papa 7).
I know that I pick my closest friends carefully and chose them based on how a connection has already been developed. I enjoy meeting new people and feel I have a lot of acquaintances, however I put more effort in to the relationships that are already developed and have a smaller risk of being taken advantage of. I also have a strong ability to connect these relationships in my job. Working closely with the compliance and legal groups as well as the call center agents I am able to bridge a gap of understanding between these two very different areas of my job. The last two traits that were shown to be my greatest strengths were activator and command. One of the main responsibilities that I face is to ensure that actions are being taken when an agent is out of compliance so that there is less risk for the company and a better customer experience. Being able to listen to a call and determine what needs to be done and make sure that it priority is important. Utilizing strengths of employees in my opinion is a key factor in becoming a successful company with employees who love doing what they are hired to do. I have been in several companies throughout my career that I was not able to use my strengths and I never was able to be satisfied with the work I was doing. “Just as an acorn cannot become a palm tree, you can’t become something other than the very best of who you already are” (Clifton, Anderson, Schreiner, 2006, p. 237). Trying to become something that is not who you are can interfere with being successful in your career. Organizations should use resources such as the StrengthFinder Quiz (Gallup,2010) to make sure the employees are in the right position to maintain personal and organizational growth. Being able to determine where an employee would excel would lead to better moral within a company as well as raising the potential of the organizations long term success. Determining the strengths of an employee is half of the utilization of skills. It is important to realize the skills needed for positions as well. This can be done by looking at the position in detail and reviewing the skills needed to be successful at it. Enabling someone’s abilities in this way would make an organization more successful. Once the employees have determined where their strengths are and the organization has become aware of the skills needed to excel in the positions, they can be matched with the best candidate. First, it is important to discover what it means to be a “strength-based” organization. A strength based organization knows the importance of recognizing and utilizing the talents of their team. This is different from the most common approach of determining what is wrong with a company’s employees and attempting to fix it which leads to unhappy employees and lack of potential for the organization (Gallup, 2016). When an organization realizes that taking an approach of strengths instead of determining things that an employee struggles in the possibilities are endless. Utilizing strengths create better results in productivity, keeping employees, as well as the company seeing profitability (Lewis, 2016). When someone is talented in an area, they will be more successful and aspire to do more and complete task with satisfaction. “Employees who use their strengths every day are six times more likely to be engaged than those who do not” (Gallup, 2016). From personal experience I have a more fulfilled work experience now that my talent is being utilized properly and have excelled where I would have not been engaged

To maintain the success of a strengths-based organization it is important for the leadership to be on board with recognizing the talent of employees and making sure they are being used in a way that lets them succeed and feel as though their talents are being used. This essay will reflect on the author’s learning experience and challenges to her journey of completing the high dependency care module. On reflection, the journey will be explored in which professional development is challenged and facilitated. In reflecting on these areas, the Driscoll's (2007) model of reflection will be utilized as this is very simple, straightforward yet suitable to any practitioner. Driscoll (2007) considered three stages in his approach to reflection as seen in Appendix 2.
Strengths Finder 2.0 uses an online assessment to evaluate the individuals unique talents by having the taker rate how they view a particular question in 20 seconds or less (Rath, 2007). After taking the assessment, my five strengths were determined to be achiever, maximizer, input, arranger, and relator (Gallup StrengthsFinder, 2012).
I was excited to take the Gallup Strengths Finder assessment. Although I am more reserved and shy, I typically find myself placed in leadership positions. I am always surprised when people refer to me as a leader but family members and close friends have made me more aware of this personality characteristic. I really enjoyed taking the Gallup Strength Finder assessment and I can see why this would be an assessment growing in popularity across the globe. When I finished the assessment, my results showed that my strengths, from first to last, are developer, empathy, input, connectedness, and restorative.
The purpose of this reflective analytical study is to focus on a piece of work undertaken whilst on placement; I will look to reflect on my ability as a practitioner with focus on my knowledge of theoretical approaches and understanding of legislation, policies, and procedures. For my first direct placement as a social work student I have been part of a local authority Community Care Team (CCT), working with adults over the age of 65 or living with disabilities. Through this placement I have been given the opportunity to work alongside individuals and carers, assessing their needs and implementing service that can best support them.
Everyone has strengths and weaknesses. As Roth states in Strengths Finder 2.0, we as a present day world tend to focus on and try to overcome our weaknesses rather that building up our strengths. Using our natural talents can help us do the best we can and help us be a better asset. After taking the strengths assessment, I found that my top five strengths themes ended up being: relator, discipline, competition, responsibility, and significance.
My five strengths according to the strength finder include; balance, this helps me be aware of treating all people equally regardless of the situation. I am neither in anyone 's favor or against anyone as this to me is selfishness and individualism. This would result in a situation where some people scale heights due to connections while others are lagging behind. I believe that a consistent environment where the rules apply to everyone is the best for individuals to function best (Rath, 2007). Flexibility is my next strength. Another strength that I have is being an active listener. I listened to my clients and utilized a lot of micro skills. Insuring confidentiality was also a strength that I developed closer to the end of field placement. Conducting assessments and making sure I tracked and exhausted the topics was also a strength that I identified throughout field. One of my greatest skills is being able to be compassionate towards others. I am an extremely caring person that will go to great lengths for anyone. I can easily overlook the differences in other people, and this is what helps me get along with almost anyone that I come across. In order to lead people in a positive direction you need to be able to relate to them on a more personal level. It is much easier when people feel comfortable around their leader. I believe one of my strongest qualities would be my drive. During the course of my education, I experienced challenging circumstances which required me to practice self-accountability to achieve my goals. These learning experiences have further cultivated my ambition. I would describe some of strengths as being able to define clear objectives when working in group settings whether it is in the working world or in academic settings and communicating clearly to the rest of the people in my group when I am in the lead or not. The two areas that best reflect my strong suits are respectful and inspiring. (Steadiness) Respect should not be taken lightly and people want others to show them that they are important. I am not the one to belittle, talk down to someone, embarrass the other person, or not acknowledge someone because they are not like me or do not hold a certain position. People respond in a negative manner and become very defensive when others treat them in any of the ways previously mention. I look at how I want others to consider when speaking and interacting with me. That is the way I have to try to handle myself when dealing with others. Taking calculated risks is what I do best because I cannot stand losing too much if the results do not outweigh the risks involved. I am also very critical on myself and can point out faults in a heartbeat. I have to analyze future actions before I act on anything because I do not want to go wrong or too far away from initial path. Repeating myself or actually running through multiple scenarios takes up a lot of time. Being overly critical on myself will eliminate some of that time that I cannot get back.
My flexibility is certainly one of my greatest strengths. I can easily move between different working styles, depending on the scenario. I have no problem trying a new idea or concept out before deciding on a final direction. I am continually exploring different options. Being a “people-person” is one of my other strengths. My excellent interpersonal skills allow for me to bring ideas, thoughts and people together. I generate enthusiasm and excitement into tasks. I feel comfortable and confident talking to others about anything that I have knowledge of.
This week, I was successful this week in terms of documentation and contacts. I have been keeping up with the work. My supervisor had asked me to stay extra, and it made a big difference. Staying an extra hour is better than the five-hour work schedule because I was able to make up a lot of documentation. However, I was very tired this week, and I found that I did not have as much energy as I usually have. I created a plan to survive this week with effective time management. Speaking to patients in the morning time. Get the list of the patients on the postpartum floor, and determine if they are participants. If they are not WIC participants, I did not go into the room. At the office, I check if there are any prenatal mothers, as well as postpartum mothers waiting in the waiting area. If no one fit the criteria, then I worked on the documentation. I do find that employees give me other work on top of what I am must do because they see that I am a hard worker. Although, I know when to say “No,” but I do not say it because I want to be helpful. Also, I am under a probation period and I want to pass it. Therefore, I do the job to the best of my ability to succeed.
One of my greatest strengths at work that I have recognized would have to be my ability to be a well-organized individual. I tend to write what I have to do down on paper and prioritize what is more important to least important. In doing this, it helps me organize and accomplish my work and meet deadlines that are important. A personal strength that I have at home is patience. I am a mother of a beautiful three year old little girl who is a handful. Patience is my greatest strength as a parent and individual which I possess especially being a single mother. I am a dedicated and hard working mother and I always make sure that my daughter gets the love and attention she needs.
