As a student teacher, the main responsibility is to learn and expand on our knowledge, disposition, and performance. Through my observations I have learned the most important point to set is the class expectations at the beginning of the school year. When setting class expectations at the beginning of the year and being consistent with it, the students will know what is expected of them, which, influences positive behavior. Another method of classroom management that I learned, is the proper usage of the clip chart and teacher student discussions. These classroom management tools, model proper behavior to the students and show them the rewards and consequences of behavior choices.
When giving instructions to the students I learned the instructions
Having a well thought-out comprehensive behavior management plan, and well- designed lesson plans, which addresses the various learning styles of the students in the class and gets all the students engaged in the learning activity.
My philosophy of classroom management is based on the individual relationships I form with each student, on the relationships they form with each other, and on the expectations I place on myself in relationship to my capabilities as a teacher. Just as with adults living together in our global world, I believe that as a teacher, it is my responsibility to recognize the individual differences inherent to every child “living together” in the classroom, and to implement an environment of mutual respect and support of social camaraderie with an ambition towards education.
Develop effective classroom rules and consequences. When rules and consequences are specific and consistent the more effective they will be. These rules show the students what is expected of them rather than what they are not supposed to do. In this paper the focus will primarily be on those elements within the classroom that influence student motivation and engagement.
Classroom management is a necessary component for teachers to appreciate and apply to positively manage and adjust behavior within the learning environment. It is important that teachers develop a sound perceptive of significant theories that will result in enhanced teaching and practices within the class (Lyons, Ford & Slee, 2014). Goal Centred Theory, Cognitive Behavioural Theory and Assertive Discipline Theory are three prominent management theories that will endure analysis. Therefore, consolidating the main elements that underpin the theories will assist in developing positive practices of classroom management.
Establish a sense of responsibility by creating rules and expectations as a class. Have clear visual cues of responsibilities and consequences around the room. Use the support of other staff in implementing classroom management strategies. Use the school discipline system to monitor student behaviour. If students engage in misbehaviour, they receive a warning and are then sent to the timeout desk to reflect and write in the timeout book.
When children are learning there education it is very important for the children to have all the motivation that they can handle as an individual child do to the way each child learns on a normal basis. Education comes in different formats so that each child would be able to learn on there own level.Motivation can be a pattern for some children because some children can learn better when they are being motivated. Children learning styles can take an effect on the way that they learn from what they are learning and how they learn it.The children learning comes from a variety of teaching activities that goes with there age and grade level. In the 21st century, teachers experience many behavioral issues with students in the classroom and face challenges that are very difficult to resolve. School districts have different expectations about how students must behave during school and teachers have their own expectations about how students must behave in their classroom. It is paramount to first provide a safe and supportive place where children feel free to contribute without hesitation and have access to all the materials they need to successfully learn without interruption, without an inclusive place to learn and be it cannot be expected that children will reach curriculum goals successfully. Second to this a classroom must maintain a consistent and clear set of rules, expectations and management techniques, in my first year I have had the opportunity to use and reflect on a myriad of techniques and find those that best suit my children and own pedagogies. I believe there must be consistency in all that you do and expectation should be set from the beginning of the year. Children should be responsible for their own actions and learning, an example of this in my own practice is allowing the children to write their own set of ‘classroom rules’, as a result I am no longer the rule enforcer, an expectation is placed on all children to abide by a set of community decided behaviours. Motivation is what drives us to do the things that we do. It is something that needs to be cultivated in the classroom from the beginning of the year. The teacher needs to understand how each individual child is motivated and what peaks their interest. I will praise the students and make them feel good about themselves. I want each student to know that I care about them and want to do all I can to help them learn and grow. As the teacher I will make sure to always keep the students motivated and engaged. In order for that to happen my role as the teacher is to plan and develop activities that students will find motivating. Intrinsic motivation is motivation that students have within themselves. Intrinsic motivation is when a student is motivated to do something due to you own interest and curiosity. It is the motivation you have within you and is personally rewarding. For example, researching a topic of interest because you want to know more about it for your own sake. The way in which I would promote intrinsic motivation in my classroom is by focusing on setting personally meaningful goals so that all the students feel challenged, stimulating curiosity to peak interest, clarifying the cause and effect relationships between what we’re learning in comparison to real life things, using fantasy to help students imagine themselves in real-life settings and recognizing and appreciating each and every accomplishment each student makes so that they can feel satisfied and appreciated.
In the past few years it seems that schools have really lost touch with the discipline of students. With the increasing frequency of school shootings and acts of violence it seems that the students are running the show instead of the teachers and administrators. There are many factors that are involved in creating a great classroom or a horrible classroom.
