As educators we are required to follow relevant curriculum documents, I am fortunate enough to at the beginning of my career while the National Curriculum is being implemented in schools. This advantage means all my training links to the National Curriculum and my understandings are current and relevant to the quality standards.

It is paramount to first provide a safe and supportive place where children feel free to contribute without hesitation and have access to all the materials they need to successfully learn without interruption, without an inclusive place to learn and be it cannot be expected that children will reach curriculum goals successfully. Second to this a classroom must maintain a consistent and clear set of rules, expectations and management techniques, in my first year I have had the opportunity to use and reflect on a myriad of techniques and find those that best suit my children and own pedagogies. I believe there must be consistency in all that you do and expectation should be set from the beginning of the year. Children should be responsible for their own actions and learning, an example of this in my own practice is allowing the children to write their own set of ‘classroom rules’, as a result I am no longer the rule enforcer, an expectation is placed on all children to abide by a set of community decided behaviours. Additionally, I also practice a restorative justice approach to conflict management where children are scaffolded to solve problems amongst themselves, rather than always needing the support of an adult to ‘solve’ the issue at

The Australian Curriculum prepares students for the world that they will have to face confidently, and living with their morals, values and knowledge of who they really are.
The development of a national curriculum for Australia is not a new endeavour (Marsh, 2010). The ideal is that national curriculum across Australia would mean that students are provided with a quality education that helps to shape the lives of the nations citizens and continue developing the productivity and quality of life within Australia. The Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority [ACARA] have the task of developing and implementing a nationwide curriculum. ACARA (n.d.-c) claims have addressed needs of young Australians while considering that changing ways in learning and challenges will continue to shape students education in the future. A look at what the Australian Curriculum is, its purpose, structure and scope, learning theories and teaching processes and whether the curriculum has the capacity to meet the needs of 21st century learners will show that the initial construction of a national curriculum appears to be successful. However, the effectiveness of the Australian Curriculum will only be able to be evaluated in the future after implementation across the country.
In Australia, the Australian Curriculum and Reporting authority (ACARA) has developed national curriculum and guidelines to be adhered to by all educational entities and teachers from years K – 12.
In modern democratic society school curriculum has become a prioritised concern for many citizens. It is a key factor in the shaping of future generations and the development of society. Decades have lapsed and numerous attempts have been made to produce a national curriculum for Australia. In 2008 it was announced that the Rudd government in collaboration with State and Territories would produce a plan to move towards a national curriculum (Brady & Kennedy, 2010). To date this has been realised in the deliverance of the Australian Curriculum v1.2 which will be examined in this paper.
Different theories present own opinion of the most effective way through curriculum models. ‘Curriculum models are approaches or procedures for implementing a curriculum’. (Wilson, 2009: 522) Commonly curriculum are described as product, process and praxis. While curriculum as a product depends on the objectives as the learning goals and the measured means, a process model focuses on learning and relationship between learner and teacher. Chosen curriculum model depends on teaching and assessment strategies in some cases determinate by awarding bodies, organisational constrains, funding body and political initiatives. The dominant modes of describing and managing education are today couched in the productive form. Objectives are set, a plan drawn up, then applied, and the outcomes (products) measured. It is a way of thinking about education that has grown in influence in the United Kingdom since the late 1970s with the rise of ‘vocationalism’ and the concern of competencies. In the late 1980s and the 1990s many of the debates about the National Curriculum for schools did not so much concern how the curriculum was thought about as to what its objectives and content might be. (Wilson, 2009)
My philosophy of classroom management is that the management of elementary classrooms require several things. Among patience, determination and motivation are: flexibility, careful planning and consistency. A well-managed classroom did not get well-managed without a teacher who planned, had a flexible vision and was determined. Any new teacher, who is asked, will say they want a classroom with as few behavioral problems as possible as well as one that is easily manageable. But any experienced teacher, who is asked, will tell those new teachers that classrooms do not come "well managed". They have to be made into well-managed classrooms. These experienced teachers would also encourage by saying that it is not easy, but that it is not impossible to have a manageable classrooms. On the other hand, they would be quick to add that all classrooms will have behavioral problems at some point or another. This is proven to be true to anyone who has been in an elementary classroom, whether they were a teacher, observer or a student themselves. But what teachers can take to comfort is that they can prepare themselves. The first thing that is needed is flexibility. Being able to evolve with changing needs is something teachers need to acquire quickly. Adaptability can make or break classroom climate. A teacher who is not flexible and wants things one way, will find themselves in a power struggle that will be hard to reverse. Also, the negativity will build up and make teaching unpleasant for the teacher and learning unpleasant for the students. Being able to "go with the flow" will help teachers tremendously. Professional competence can mean various things to different people. Competency in any career or profession has many basic requirements that are learned in a classroom environment as well as many essential elements that must be learned through formal, on-the-job training in order to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to function adequately as a professional in a workplace setting. Competency in the counseling field is not a ‘once learned, always known’ type of knowledge; it requires a combination of classroom education, internship training to acquire confidence, knowledge, skills, and experience, and an obligation of continuing education on a life-long basis.
THERE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN VOCATIONAL ASPECTS TO SCHOOLING IN AUSTRALIA. HOWEVER, IN RECENT TIMES THERE HAS BEEN AN INCREASED EMPHASIS ON THIS ASPECT OF SCHOOLING WITHIN BOTH THE GENERAL CURRICULUM AND THOSE AREAS THAT HAVE A PARTICULAR VOCATIONAL FLAVOUR.
I try imparting into them the importance of an education and how they contribute to the growth of our society. In my classroom, I am in control. I draw a clear line between what and how much my students are allowed to do in the classroom. In the first week of school, I establish my authority and I clearly and explicitly express my classroom and outside the classroom procedures that will be followed and the rights that every student has in the classroom. Educational institutions today are increasing their emphasis on high standards as a crucial factor in improving the quality of education imparted to their students. They are, therefore, looking at new and better ways to develop such a curriculum that meets all the pre-decided standards. It is expected that the profession of teaching embraces many qualities of any other professional practice. As discussed throughout this paper we build our classroom management plans based on our past experiences, our knowledge, our professional learning and our very own personal reflection.
