Motivation to learning Motivation is really important tool in a learning environment. Also motivation effects student learning and their behavior as well. It directs behavior towards particular targets. Also it effect the decision which students takes. In motivation mainly we have two types which is intrinsically and extrinsically being motivated. For example: when a student is intrinsically motivated they just do it for themselves not because of the reward that they will get back. It’s just because they have their own interest and they enjoy doing that. On the other side, when a student is extrinsically motivated they just do it for the reward that they will get. For example; when a person feel like that his or her arousal level is going down then to rise that he or she might go for a jog or listen to music. Actually, we all believe that in today’s world in the pressure of the competition of achieving good grades we as a teachers even forget to see the pressure of the students. And many students interest to learn is no longer there. So, we need to change this. In order to change this we have to make our learning environment a place where students arousal level of motivation is rising not decreased. For example; we can use music in the art class (drawing with music) also doing small group activities.etc… The next theory is expectancy theory of motivation: expectancy theory of motivation suggest that we think about our future. We create different expectations about what is going to happen next, and we always want a positive outcome. We believe that we have the ability to get the best. This motivate us to work hard in order to achieve the goal towards we work. This theory of motivation is the best tool for students because if we hope then only we can work. Provide choices for students: we should always provide students with more choices, so they will be able to work in the categories that they have interest in. for example: let’s say it’s a science class and the topic is systems in the body. And the choices under this topic is given like digestive system, nervous system, etc… and students can choose any body system they like to write about. This way student will learn how to make decisions on their own and they will be intrinsically motivated. “Motivation is the process whereby goal-orientated activity is instigated and sustained” (Schunk, Pintrich & Meece, 2008. As cited in Eggen & Kauchak, 2010, p.284). Motivation comes in many forms and can be divided into two broad categories - extrinsic and intrinsic motivation. Extrinsic motivators are external factors which can motivate a student; rewards are an example of this. An issue with extrinsic motivators is that the desire for the learner to participate often lessens, once the rewards are withdrawn (McCullers, 1987). On the other hand intrinsic motivation comes from within - learning for the joy of it - where the desire to learn leads to a higher level of knowledge, and is a reward in itself. Kohn (1996, p.285) states that research suggests, “Rewards actually decrease interest in intrinsically motivating tasks, therefore sending the wrong message about learning” (as cited in Eggen & Kauchak, 2010a)
It is the process of orchestrating procedures and/or resources that causes a change in ones enthusiasm, drive and/or motivation. These motivational design concepts can be used in many different ways, such as encouraging peoples’ skills, inspiring employees to work more effectively in the workplace and/or arousing students to desire to learn and retain what is being taught ( Keller, 2006). John Keller’s A.R.C.S. The (ARCS) Model of Motivational Design is broken down into four different steps: Attention, Relevance, Confidence and Satisfaction (ARCS). These are the steps Keller’s believes will encourage and sustain motivation in the learning process.
Although today’s culture is for students to sit, listen, and learn, Edmundson and Freire indicate that there are valuable rewards in provoking students to critically think and analyze the material provided, but say little about ways to keep students motivated. Further research indicates that motivation plays a significant part in keeping the interest and focus of students and teachers. Adjustments to educational culture are insignificant if strategies for increased motivation in the classrooms aren’t utilized.

Motivation is key in the workplace. The cognition of students regarding academic work are influenced by social factors, such as messages from the teacher about the difficulty of the task, the perceived abilities of classmates, and the information about the importance of learning the material (Urdan & Schoenfelder, 2006). In this paper the focus will primarily be on those elements within the classroom that influence student motivation and engagement.
Motivation is to understand what causes behaviour, what starts the behaviour, why a person does something and why the behaviour stops and what are the forces that determine behaviour’s intensity. There are different types of motivation that influences us from day to day and they have different effects from a short term to long term. Students need to be inspired to think critically. By this they comprehend what has been learned and be able to use it. I hope my students will be able to achieve their greatest potential that they can accomplish anything they set their minds to. We can give our children these building blocks thru education to use in decision making situations, moral value of their thoughts and actions. This will guide them to realize how their actions and decisions will affect themselves and others.
In many cases, it has become very complex to keep students interested in their education. So the teacher must be creative and find ways to keep pushing the student onward as well as upward. In order to devise the ultimate plan for educating students, a teacher must acknowledge that the “students” are what teaching is all about. The most important factor in the equation is unequivocally the STUDENT! All humans are different in some sort or fashion. But the fact still exists that we all have only this place to function in. So help by putting forth an effort to make it a better place for us all.
