During the semester I have gained many experiences within this module to get to know myself better in accordance with professional criteria and I have acquired some skills to evaluate fact-based information like CV contents, cover letters and I also learnt to critically process presentations. I also had an insight into the factors which might influence my career development and the decisions I make. I have also experienced difficulties with individual course work, especially with research and the critical weighing of sources I found. But I believe that I have improved in several aspects integrated into Career Development Skills and I hope to adopt my new skills successfully in my studies, career and in my social life as well. The importance is to get an understanding of classes by which I am able to adopt principals in life. Partially this finding made me start doing a lot more research for my individual assignments. I believe that I am now heading into the right direction to use the knowledge I can get from class and from the textbooks effectively. I am also improving in managing my time and activities – which as I had discussed – is the most difficult thing in my life as a student. Because of pursuing my extracurricular passions I had a tendency to procrastinate the tasks given during the courses. I was in a logical fallacy with myself: I decided to not like my assignments for they take too much time before getting to know them. To some extent, however, procrastination had a stimulating effect on me. To quote one of my favourite cartoons, Calvin and Hobbes “Do you have any idea of your story yet? / No, I am waiting for inspiration. You can’t just turn on creativity like a faucet. You have to be in the right mood. / What mood is that? / Last minute panic.” Now this illustrates how I worked for a period of time, before I realised that it won’t pay up in the long run. So I took effort and try to discipline myself to prepare well before my assignments and I hope to be awarded for it. But now, as I reflect on my performance during this semester I see that I am capable of working under
Time sure does fly; in the blink of an eye, yet another 7.5-week class has come and gone. Just like life, it is scary to think that in just a few short years I will be graduating college and be in search of a future career. The magnitudes of readings, assignments, PowerPoint lectures, and videos have all contributed to the valuable knowledge I have gained since taking this course. Nothing that was presented or required was seen as invaluable towards my progression of career development. This career development course has allowed me to do some self-exploration, career research, and help me understand what influencing factors were related to the job market. Ultimately, this class helped me gauge and find a suitable career path, which will forever shape my future.
Your schedule will be as open as a barren desert. You will relieve all your stress by procrastinating. You don’t have to worry about the assignment until the day l before it is due, and this is a good thing. as you can zone out and focus on the activity at hand whether that’s browsing online, watching a movie, or hanging out with friends. The assignments will begin to haunt you at first; this will be a challenge that everyone faces, yet you need to realize that paper isn’t going to write itself, and neither are you; at least, not yet. That paper has a long life ahead of it before it needs to get turned in, why make it suffer? Speedily add to it the day before to ensure that no pain goes to the paper. In class, you don’t have to listen, but rather just act like you doing work. You can just look at the notes, that the teacher wrote when you get home. If you forget, it isn’t the end of the world you still have a day to study; the test is tomorrow. Procrastination is the gift that keeps giving. The more you procrastinate, the easier it will get, the more your grades will increase, and the more you’ll have fun. Yet, don’t get too carried away. You must procrastinate but still must complete your assignments. School is important, yet your activities outweigh the need for completion of assignments, so they can wait. What you need and want should come
Procrastination is a common problem with students. Students wait closer and closer to the due date to complete an assignment. Procrastinating is something that everyone has done at one point in his or her lives. All students such as elementary students, middle school students, high school students, and college students procrastinate. Students have many reasons why they seem to procrastinate. The reasons for procrastinating are simple such as students being too lazy to complete their work. Procrastination is a problem because students may not get their work done in time. The students’ work may not also be as well accomplished as it would be if they complete it before the due date. Simple solutions such as staying focused, setting goals and priorities,
Ten years ago I was sitting in a classroom striving to understand the English language and how to read and write properly. I am a Mexican immigrant who came into the United States following the “American Dream” in search of a better life. I am a hard working individual with a passion for service and self-determination to make a difference in people’s lives. I come from a family that values unity and service to others. Caring for other people is what I love to do and it’s what makes me feel I have a real purpose in life. A career as a health care professional will fulfil both my personal and professional goals.
It is simple to look at an individual’s life and analyze and critique their choices based on our own opinions and experiences. Is that fair? No. We may see their actions clearly but the reasoning behind these is what we should focus on when it comes to judging someone’s behavior or circumstances. A common judgment made about a person is based on their career. In our society, it would behoove us to look at the path that leads to becoming a doctor instead of a drug dealer.

For nearly all academic subjects, studying is the backbone support for one’s achievement in that field, and the very first thing that procrastinating will damage. When I was taking Advanced Placement (AP) Biology in 10th grade, I skipped a lot of reading. Even though I had always loved biology with a passion, and I was able to keep up with the enormous amount of information we had to memorize for the first few weeks of class, that passion was still overwhelmed by the amount of house chores, lengthy meetings for our academic competition team, and homework from my other
In this report, I will reflect on my professional development throughout this module, from when I started in September, to now. According to Beausaert et al. (2011), ‘the art of self-evaluation is an integral element of reflection and involves critical insight into understanding one 's strengths and limitations’. Therefore, my aim is to identify my learning needs and to recognise my personal skills and capabilities, as well as identifying areas of my skill set that need to be refreshed or extended to stand out in the competitive job market. By doing this, I hope to demonstrate knowledge of the skills that I have gained during this module.
When it comes to our personal and professional lives, Managing your time efficiently should be a mastered ability. As a student, this could have a huge effect on performance and grades. Seeing that Time Management is imperative when it comes to college and success, recognizing bad habits, should be one of the first obstructions immediately eliminated from your daily schedule. Create new habits if you tend to procrastinate and start planning ahead to manage your most important priorities. According to David Allen (2001),"Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity" (p.59) "changes in the way you clarify and organize all things that command your attention-could represent a significant shift in how you approach some key aspects of your day to day work." Setting up deadlines and completing your assignments a few days before the due date will eliminate the procrastination stage. Creating a list with the most important priorities first, will help sort out your assignments and eliminate stress and feeling overwhelmed.
A theory is a way organizing and systematizing what is known about a phenomenon. It is, in fact, “a rationalized set of assumptions or hypotheses that provides a person with tools that can be utilized to explain the past and predict the future” (Johnson, 2000). Therefore, theories provide direction and when tested and supported, can assist in expanding our knowledge.
The national career development association (2003) defines career development as the absolute combination of psychological, Sociological, educational and economic factors which influence the significant of work in the total life span of any individual. Choosing a career can be an overwhelming experience, one may be plagued with concerns over making the incorrect career choice, being stuck in a certain field, or splurging on the incorrect major in college. While one has to make that decision on their own, there are certain tools that could help someone make that choice. One tool is career theories. There are many different theories on career choice and development, and they each have valid points. However, the two theories that I found resonated the most with my own experiences of occupational choice and development are Rhoes theories, and Super’s theory. Rhoe’s theory suggests that there is a strong correlation between a person’s childhood experiences, and how to they choose
According to the study of this course, I have learned many useful management skills and I feel like these skills will be applied to my future career development. When working on the self- assessment tests, I found myself fall into the category of the ISTJ personality types, which as illustrated by Myers Briggs, is the type of personality that is conscientious, considerate, and helpful. Personality traits such as honest, dutiful, practical and responsible are my strengths; personality traits such as stubborn, insensitive and poor communication skill are my weaknesses. Related to the knowledge I have learned in the course I believe both strengths and weakness will have influence to my future career development. In this reflection paper, I will demonstrate the strengths and weaknesses that may place the most influence on my way of success.
