Many important things factor in understanding about studying. The most important fact about studying: no two people think alike; therefore, no two people study the same. What works for you may not work for your friend, and vice versa. I know I have no class that I enjoy so much that I cannot wait to get home so that I can study it, on that note we can only wish. As people we are all different for some students studying and being motivated to learn comes naturally but for me not so much. Success in high school and college really depend on good study habits. Things like taking bad notes, not knowing how to study, not knowing when to study and not having a good place to study can really affect your grades. The first thing a person can do to improve their study habits is take better notes. When taking notes you do not have to write down every word the teacher says, if you do that you’re not going to know what's important and what's not important. If you do that you’re going to be studying things that’s not important and that could confuse you and make studying really boring. Write down only the things that you think are important. You can even read ahead in a book and highlight what you think is good information to know. If the teacher says anything more than once, or puts emphasis on something, highlight that it could be on your next test. Good thinking skills are especially important in note taking. Everyone has good thinking skills but that doesn’t necessarily mean that they use them. Good thinking skills can’t be studied they must be built up over... ... middle of paper ... ...room or step outside away from everyone else. You could choose to study as school; unfortunately sometimes classmates can be unruly. Because of unruliness that could make it hard to concentrate. You could leave the class and head to a study hall if your school supports one. In summary, bad study habits produce bad grades good study habits produce good grades. Knowing how to take better notes could increase your comprehension levels. Figuring what your best way to study is makes learning and studying so much more fun. Not knowing when to study could be bad but creating a good schedule really helps. Having a good place to study helps, it gives you one thing and one thing only to concentrate on. When most people hear the word study, they cringe at the thought, but with better information on it, you can handle it better. Better grades are tight around the corner.
Grades do motivate students to do better but, grades cause students to want to get a good grade instead of fully mastering the material. They look at school just trying to pass which promotes cheating on tests and homework. They also will choose the material that is the easiest and choose a class with a professor who doesn’t care to raise their GPA. School is supposed to be about learning and understanding new material to help gain knowledge and a new way of thinking.
Worrying too much about grades can cause students serious problems like not really understanding the work, make them not feel smart enough and lose interest in school and can cause anxiety and other health issues. School takes up a large portion of my time as it is, but I easily become distracted. When I arrive back home from school, my phone’s notifications are being checked, and all of a sudden an hour has gone by. While completing homework on the computer, I will open another tab and end up straying away from the assignment. In addition to that, my study habits could definitely be improved. Students understand the consequences of low grade averages, so they constantly evaluate grades by keeping up with their averages. Low grades cause academic probation. During the probationary period students are encouraged to focus on applying themselves to bring grade averages up to standards. While focusing on averages, students are able to change their study habits or learning styles for instance; some students learn by hands-on-training and others by reading comprehension. This one being your first year in college, you may have trouble concentrating while you study. Some techniques that can help your concentration are being selective, relaxing, and over learning. Being selective means to make choices about what is most important to learn. When you are studying, you should be able to know what may or may not be on the test, your notes for the week can be helpful. In addition, pay attention to charts, tables, and illustrations that you think may appear on the test. Relaxing is a good technique to use because when you are relaxed you are able to absorb more information. One way to relax is to use a breathing technique (inhale, count from one to ten, and exhale, and count from one to ten, and so on). Over learning can help you fight mental vagueness. When you are struggling in a class, it is best for you to learn more than you need to know about the subject. You can use these techniques every time you are studying or when you cannot concentrate.

Per the assessment results, there are three discrete principles that need to be addressed based on my personal, distinct habits. As I make a transition from high school to college, the weaknesses that need to be improved are interpreted as my note-taking, textbook and time management abilities. Primarily, note-taking is the worst mannerism found in my results. As a student, I always attempt to write down every single word in a presentation, or lecture. My note-taking habits need to be terminated because I am not enhancing my skills or learning any of the information, I am just regurgitating it. In high school, note-taking is not a big deal; however, in college note-taking is the consequent basis of learning. To amplify my skills in the area of note-taking, I need to be an active listener, so I can retain the information better and review it later. I should summarize the notes and analyze them on a daily basis.

Starting college has affected many of my habits, mainly study habits. The first couple months of classes went by so smoothly and I felt like I was adjusting fine. I attended class regularly and took notes from the lectures. I knew that college was different than high school but I continued with the norm. Now, that the mid-term grades have been posted I have realized that College required more time management and consistency within the study habits. My mid-term grades have changed my mind set. I have designated certain days of the week for “study time” for each class hoping for improvement.
I seem to learn better when I constantly read over the material I am studying. This allows the material to constantly be running in my mind. I am a person who will read or hear something and it usually sticks with me. I really haven 't had to study for long periods of time, because I usually remember the topic of what were being tested on pretty easily. I have also learned that I am more of a hands on person. It worked for me to an extinct like I had to basically form an alliance or network of people who were in my classes to get myself to stay focused and sometimes help them stay focused. I used to think i needed a small pill in order to get through a tough test or stay up all night cramming all the information I need for the test the next day. But I learned if instead of cramming i studied at the library for an hour a day I would do a lot better than cramming.
