Master Tutor Final Reflective Essay As a master tutor for Art I I have had to interact with many different type of students and artist. I had many successes as well as areas of improvement which I intend to solve. It has been my first year being a master tutor for an art class and I find it is much different than any other subject. In core classes it is easier to provide help to every student because the student knows that there are certain rules you must obey whereas in art, you are free to express yourself. I have learned very much from my first semester and I intend to improve ten fold in hopes of helping my fellow alumni as well as myself. In art students are always looking for elementary black and white answers to what is "right" and …show more content…
I, since I was little, have always been a very shy person and always tend to keep to myself and only a small close circuit of friends, so walking around and talking to others I normally wouldn 't out of the classroom setting is a little nerve racking and I need to constantly remind myself that I earned my title. I have gotten better at reminding myself of this since the beginning of the school year and I am very please because that not only means that I am improving on my tutoring skills, but also my own personal life. Future master tutors should always remind themselves that they earned their title and that it is ok to walk up to other students and talk to them regarding their …show more content…
In other classes I master tutor, it is easier to accomplish this because they actually ask for help where as in art, the tutor has to seek out the tutee. I believe that if you were to require the tutor to teach a lesson and observe their instruction, you would be able to learn a lot on how your master tutor is helping your class. You will be able to see their weaknesses whether it is their wording, their clearness, their volume, or possible even their pace. It would be a great way to get to know you master tutor, but in the master tutor "handbook" of sorts, it says that master tutors should not do such things. I believe it is more of a master tutors should not be a substitute for your classroom but it would be best to ask whichever teacher is in charge of master tutors if doing this would be
If art must have a grade, it should be over art history and strategies, rather than the students
Being a tutor or mentor is a wonderful experience that I think will heighten your level of socializing in a professional manner and further progressing your problem-solving skills. I know for me, both apply to my life and I have only been a tutor for two semesters and a mentor for one. I plan on joining the military after my college career is over and having leadership skills will be important in my career path. Tutoring is something that takes being a leader. You must lead someone to a goal. In this case, that goal is learning new material. Being able to help someone and guide them towards gaining more knowledge is something I take great pride in being able to do. For example, I had student this semester who struggled immensely with chemistry (what I tutor).
This personally happened during my mock tutoring session as a tutor when I didn’t understand Laurens questions and I was unsure how to go about helping her. This also seemed to be the case when I was the tutee with Lauren. When I asked her how I could improve various parts of my Drumlin Woodchuck essay, she had a difficult time answering my question. I think this issue has to do with lack of time, and that neither one of us were as prepared as we should have been. Also, during my tutoring session, I should have asked Lauren more questions, instead of letting the majority of our time be spent in silence, as I read over her paper. However, the majority of the time, the mock tutoring sessions flowed smoothly and the tutees and the tutors played their roles accordingly. The tutees would tend to act in a difficult manner and the tutors would try and figure out a way to help the tutee with their homework. This aspect of the sessions made them feel genuine and useful when taking notes on best practices and
I also tutor children who need extra help but their parents might not have the time. This is my favorite thing to do because not only are the parents super thankful for the extra hand, it is awesome spending time and building relationships with the kids too. I think the skill that is most important for teaching young kids is patients. I feel I have more patients with kids than most people. I truly don’t mind sitting with them until they get something right, or not blowing up on them when they mess up. My goal is never to destroy a child’s confidence with academics or to make them feel dumb. I have had some teachers who make me feel dumb when I do not understand something and it made me never want to ask another question
Edmund Burke Feldman was an Alumni Foundation Distinguished University Professor of Art at the University of Georgia. He was an art educator as well as an art historian. He has written several books about art including The Philosophy of Art Education, First Edition, 1995. The primary focus of this paper is to inform and show what Doctor Feldman thought was important to art teachers by correlating the practices of teaching art to the issues of philosophy Doctor Feldman wanted to bring together both subjects of art education and art teaching. He outlined the principle issues of art education and provided art teachers with a way of creating goals for teaching art.
In today’s society anything can be considered “Art”. From the great sounds of a symphony, to the architecture of a modern structure, or even an elephant painting with its trunk, art is what the viewer perceives it to be. Individuals will always agree or disagree with the message behind a certain piece of art, as pieces can be offensive to some, but beautiful to others. Some argue that funding the arts in school is a waste of money, time, or a combination of both, but the benefits outweigh the negatives by far, due to a variety of reasons.
...em to find other ways of expressing their thoughts. Arts classes are important and should be an essential in our society. Being artistic and creative can help students be who they are and stand out. It can help them use their knowledge and come up with extraordinary ideas to make big changes in the world, and it can also keep students away from bad things and be better human beings by doing what they are interested in.
teacher say that their work is good or improving. Always give verbal praise for the good and do not dwell
Along these two weeks we have been prompt to make a recall to our own way of learning and why we became a teacher: Was it because coincidence, due to life circumstances, maybe because family tradition, was it a conscious decision or because someone influenced us? Whatever the answer is, we have to face reality and be conscious that being a teacher does not only means to teach a lesson and asses students learning. It requires playing the different roles a teacher must perform whenever is needed and required by our learners, identify our pupils needs and preferences, respecting their integrity and individuality but influencing and motivating them to improve themselves and become independent.
Tutoring has always been a task I have thought of with both alacrity and apprehension. On one hand, I have the desire to help anyone who is struggling with whatever they may be doing, yet especially when it comes to academics. On the other, however, I do need to develop better skills of patience and other methods of reaching an idea to those who may not understand the way it is taught to them. Along with the student’s development of skills in the subject, I too develop my own abilities of tenacity and persistence until one is confident in his abilities on his own.
When I arrived into this school building, I signed in the front office. Teacher-2 received to show her classroom for observation. While I was walking and since it is Christmas season I noticed many decorations on the walls, roofs and on the bulletin boards. The whole school is looking just like a decorated Christmas tree. I was amazed and tried to look some of the bulletin boards ideas. These bulletin boards dragged my attention and I was almost stuck looking them. I was taken to a classroom where I noticed the teacher is waiting for her students who are in the library. After a while the teacher stood up and walked near to her door to receive her students. I pulled a chair into the corner of the class, to make sure not to distract the students (as I am stranger to these kids). I noticed students who
...ter I would recommend only having one student per tutor because then the tutor would receive a better connection with the student rather than once tutor doing all the work with student and the other just hover in the background and chime in once every ten minutes.
When I was young, my dream is to become a successful engineer someday. Of all subject, Mathematics is the easiest for me. I remember how many times I become an honor student during my elementary days and the only subject that lifts my grade is Mathematics. I remember how many times my teacher assigned me to check the seat work of my classmates when I was in high school. And I never thought that I will do this in the future.
They need outlets to express themselves while getting constructive and positive criticism. The benefits of art classes far outweigh the negatives. Budget cuts can be equally dispersed throughout each school to each individual section of classes. This can decrease the blow to just one section of education. Should students have to suffer because of the elimination of valuable educators – the arts - because of money issues and warped views? Students should be a priority to society because they are the future and deserve the best educations to help them flourish and succeed. By offering arts in schools, students are given the opportunity to develop their skills to the unimaginable. Only they know their true potential. They deserve the means to enhance their imagination and live their lives equipped with the best skills they
This interview was a great chance to earn some wisdom from the teachers who were once in our position. The faculty at BYUH is exceptional in terms of their teaching, experience, and personality, and it is great to be able to interact with them. For my interview, I spoke with sister Wallace and had a lovely experience learning about her life in TESOL. She expressed her feelings on teaching languages other than English, her experience at BYUH, and her general attitude towards teaching.
