This interview was a great chance to earn some wisdom from the teachers who were once in our position. The faculty at BYUH is exceptional in terms of their teaching, experience, and personality, and it is great to be able to interact with them. For my interview, I spoke with sister Wallace and had a lovely experience learning about her life in TESOL. She expressed her feelings on teaching languages other than English, her experience at BYUH, and her general attitude towards teaching. To start the interview, I asked if she had always planned to be an English teacher, her response was affirmative, and that she always had a desire to teach. This intrigued me since she continued to say that she had changed her major a couple times before settling on TESOL. She added that TESOL was a new concept when she studied it, but it fit along with her life goals. Along with teaching English, sister Wallace has also taught; French, Spanish, Japanese, and Maori. She has always been such a great example for me, and I have loved working with her in the EIL tutoring program. In addition, I didn’t expect to learn about her teaching ventures into other languages which has inspired me to consider the possibility one day teaching Chinese in Canada. Also, I felt it is important to note that even though sister Wallace always knew she wanted to teach, she still changed her major more than once. Another thing I learned was that making a lesson plan is imperative to the success of a lesson, but that doesn’t mean it has to be too fancy or complicated. Sister Wallace showed me hers, and how she uses it during the class. I know lesson plans are very important, but I have always struggled with either being too in depth or too basic. It is comforting for me to know that such an amazing teacher has always been open to flexibility in her lesson plans. This interview has been beneficial in my development as a trainee
I have studied English since I was a grade seven, but the curriculum in my middle school and high school years, mainly focuses on reading and speaking components of language skills, with a little focus on writing. As a result, I never felt confident with any piece that I was asked to write. Writing has been a hurdle for me to succeed in college since most of the courses in college requires one or the other way writing skill. Consequently, I have decided to work on my writing skills, and have started working on it; even before, I started taking this English 101 class. I used to use a various educational material which I thought might help me to meet my writing goal. Some of the materials which I was using includes: TOEFL educational materials, You Tube resources, and various novels. All of these resources have helped me to polish my writing skills. Furthermore, after I started taking this class, I have learned to enjoy writing. I have made it a point to communicate my own thoughts and feelings as opposed to simply summarize the thoughts of famous writers and authors before me. This class builds up my confidence in my own writing and for that I am highly appreciative.
My mind has been opened to different ideas in the school, such as, where I would prefer to teach, or different discipline and learning ideas for students. I am very thankful for the opportunity I had to observe Mrs. Lee and spend time at Oak Park Elementary. This observation has made me see that my main goal to be a teacher is to educate children and to love of them. As I looked at the different faces of some of the students and the way Mrs. Lee interacted with compassion and care towards them was something that I want to strive for when I become a teacher. I do still plan to be a teacher if the Lord continues to lead me in that path. If I did not become a teacher, I would still want to somehow be involved with the school system or with helping children through life
My interview with Ms. Chung was of moderate duration, lasting for about half an hour. While it occurred over the phone, it felt somewhat personal. As we begin the interview, I settled into the desk across from my eighth grade english teacher. Ms. Doherty tucked a strand of brown curly hair behind her ear as she smiled warmly at me, awaiting the interrogation. “Good afternoon.” I started, chipper. “Nice to see you again, Kellie.” she replied, nodding her head in acknowledgement. “So where did you grow up?” I asked, shuffling around a few papers.
The attached evaluation form was given to the students of a 5th grade class that I had regularly visited as a substitute teacher. Considering that I had been a frequent guest teacher in this classroom, I believed the students had adequate experience with my leadership, and would be able to complete the evaluation and provide important feedback. The evaluation was designed for students to assess areas that I believe are important qualities of a substitute teacher, and my efforts to meet those expectations. Students were asked to evaluate teacher preparation, knowledge of material, classroom management, and relational attributes as well.
The view of her encouraging the teachers to encourage the students to explore and talk to each other stood out to me the most. The concept map was a really good idea too. It shows the teacher what the students need more help with and what they already know. The one thing I would change is interviewing the students more often. I feel by interviewing the students more often the teachers will have a better understanding of how the students are getting their answers.
Throughout this fall semester, I have learned many things. Before this class, I have never had to buckle down and plan out my writing so tediously. The many outlines, rough drafts, and final drafts have crafted me into a much better writer than I would have ever expected to become. While I have always considered English as one of my strong subjects, through this class I have learned that English has many more components than I originally thought. One of the most substantial of these components is a transitional sentence and through this class and the writing practice it has brought me, I have learned how to properly write them.

The person of choice, for my conducted interview, was Kristen Hicks, of Cumberland Road Elementary. Currently, Mrs. Hicks holds the occupation of a library and media specialist. However, prior to receiving these positions, Mrs. Hicks engaged predominantly in teaching kindergarten through fourth grade. Overall, Mrs. Hicks has been apart of the Hamilton Southeastern School District, for the last fifteen consecutive years. Majority of this duration, has partaken at Cumberland Road Elementary. I interviewed a family friend who is a teacher in New Canaan. From doing this interview I learned about the importance of various behaviors within a classroom as well as how to handle situations when a student is misbehaving. In terms of lesson planning, I learned that teachers map out each of their lessons in order to be organized and cover all material that is necessary so that the students can progress. During the interview, I will be asking my teacher certain questions pertaining to education. Asking questions is a major key to learning and as I believe all students should have the ability to learn, I also believe all teachers do as well and learning something new will only help in the long run.
As a master tutor for Art I I have had to interact with many different type of students and artist. I had many successes as well as areas of improvement which I intend to solve. It has been my first year being a master tutor for an art class and I find it is much different than any other subject. In core classes it is easier to provide help to every student because the student knows that there are certain rules you must obey whereas in art, you are free to express yourself. I have learned very much from my first semester and I intend to improve ten fold in hopes of helping my fellow alumni as well as myself.

When I was growing up, I remember attending elementary school, learning a new language seems to be difficult at first, but I was able to learn the English language because of the dedication of one of my teachers. Now, as I reflect on this experience, it is obvious that she was dedicated and enjoyed teaching her students to be successful. I know today that she made a difference in my life as I navigated through my education experience and high school years to present.
In high school, English was my strongest and favorite subject. I never had to work as hard in English as I did in math or any other subjects I took in high school. My peers would cram all night for a Literature test we were going to have but not I. I excelled in writing essays about Moby Dick and his white Whale or Beowulf and Grendel. My confidence in my ability to write was always high and when I enrolled at Chattahoochee, I assumed my confidence would not waiver. When I received my grade for my first paper, I was in shock of all the red ink that covered it. English 1101 taught me the skills I needed to have to be able to write a great paper and prepared me for what was to come for English 1102. English 1102 have taught me to rethink my abilities as a writer and to work harder and spend more time on my essays and think outside the box.
...ove the times when she said that I helped her understand a certain concept. Those moments are what I live for, and they are priceless to me. I hope that I can continue to provide that satisfaction of learning to my future students and experience the pride and joy that the students will feel when the material finally clicks. Becoming a teacher would be a dream come true for me, and I hope that I can have the opportunity to purse this dream during my lifetime. I hope that with hard work this dream can become a reality. In essence, I want to pursue this career more than anything because I really want to inspire and shape the future generation. I know that they have what it takes to make a difference in the world, but they need teachers who can point them in the right direction. Every teacher has that capability, and that is why I want to pursue this amazing profession.
