With the concepts and skills I have learned from taking Business Communication 3301 I have personally been able to develop proper knowledge of writing a thorough essay to comply with business standards. This course has influenced my planning, searching and structuring in all aspects of my writing. I have learned, the more in depth version to basic skills in order to research the topics given and providing knowledge to properly plan for an assignment. This course assisted me in being able to create a solid foundation on which I am able to evaluate situations and respond accordingly. In essence the importance of this class is recognizing situations and learning proper measures or response. In order to clarify a response a sense of understanding must be known. This class showed the steps to take to recognize, analyze and respond to each individual situation. After gaining the basic knowledge needed to comply with measures, …show more content…
What I’ve gathered from experience and this course has helped me to achieve a level of confidence to continue learning how to implement new techniques in the business world. I strongly feel I can use the problem solving strategy I’ve learned, though out my college career and in my future endeavors. By achieving success through the problem solving activity I’m able to assess the situation, find any possible strategies and decide my best course of action. Some of those things I was already quite familiar with but having the ability to design the chosen message was something new for me. Being able to appropriately accommodate to my audience is critical when relaying the message. Knowing the best way to deliver the message is something I’ve always struggled with before. Having the clarification on whether I can email or mail my specific thoughts have helped me tremendously understand the common courtesy of ethics to abide

As I planed to take this class, I thought this course would be like all other general education courses. I believed that it would be of little use to me. However, after attending the first class, my view has changed completely. I applied each and every theory to my life.
This course has taught me many things. I was not aware that there was so much information to learn about communication, but I have been pleasantly surprised. This course has taught me better ways to communicate with my significant other, my family, my friends, my co-workers, as well as with strangers. I have greatly enjoyed each assignment because they challenged me to examine the flaws within my own communication style. I hope to employ the skills and tools I have learned in this course and apply them to all my future communications.
I strongly believe that the class, HD341 Communication for Empowerment fulfill my goals in taking this class because it is giving me many opportunities to make connection with other classmates. I usually check in by sharing my stories at school, at work, and any issues that I am still concerned. Therefore, verbal communication is an area I frequently use in class to communicate with my peers as well as my professor. I also have active listening my classmate’s stories and have critical thinking to giving feedbacks to them.
I recently realized how this class has benefited me as a person. I can clearly assert my opinions now. I know what to say, when to say it, and how to say it. This class changed my perspective on writing for the best. My writing skills are not the only things that have changed. I also learned how to read closely.
Introduction: I am working in a children’s ward at my local hospital as an EN, I need to discuss about effective communication with my 5 year old patient, every 5 year old is different; some have progressed in development more than others and some are behind in growth and development, my patient could have autism, asperger’s syndrome, down syndrome, he could be hearing or visually impaired, or come from a rough family background and might not have parents, all of these factors can greatly reduce effective communication with a child.
Each rhetorical strategy has helped me realize how much more knowledge I will walk away with from this class. When learning about ways to arrange an argument, the subtopics of process and problem-solution have seemed to help me that greatest amount. When giving a pitch for my business class, I arranged it in a type of process and ended it with a problem-solution. The way that an argument is arranged can make or break an argument. After learning tips on arrangement, my arguments have become stronger because there is organization. Learning strategies of persuasion have helped me to get inside my opponent’s head and persuade them in a more organized manner. Using things like description and cause and effect and helped me to lay out the core of my argument to make it easier for me to persuade. Rhetorical appeals can be helpful in any environment when speaking or writing. Pathos helps engage emotions of others so they can put themselves in your place and really feel for me when I am trying to prove a point. When completing a task such as persuading my parents, I can tap into their emotions to receive what I want. When using ethos, ethics can be useful to help me prove an idea because of credibility. When talking to someone about being a business student, I now make sure to emphasis that I am a direct admit student in the business school and involved in a business fraternity at the university. Others can understand my involvement and experience in business and trust my opinion. Out of all the rhetorical appeals, I believe that logos is the easiest and most effective to use because when arguing with others, facts and statistics help me to prove that I am actually correct if I have evidence. The last helpful skill that this class has taught me is the art of evaluating sources. For future papers, I now
Basic Counseling Methods (taught by Regina Green and Aaron Welch) was one of my most memorable classes for helping me to develop communication skills. This class detailed the framework for creating open communication which involved open questions, reflection, summary, and the importance of reading body language. This in addition with Advanced Counseling Methods involved role playing with these communication techniques in different scenarios. While these were initially intimidating, practicing what was just learned help to cement these essential concepts into my learning. Oral Communication also helped me to overcome my fear of public speaking. Dr. Williams also made the experience lighthearted and helped me to not take myself so seriously. He also emphasized the importance of memorizing an outline rather than a manuscript. Professor Walton was also fond of breaking up his classes into small groups for discussion. While this was already a strong area for me in communication, it helped me to grow into the role of a leader in this position more by asking questions of others rather than knowing all the answers and telling others what to think.
Effective business communication is central to the success of an individual’s career and consequently to that of the overall business entity. It would be imaginable therefore that there is some form of correlation between effective communication skills and such success. To put this into context, University of Kent (2011) has placed Verbal Communication at the top of the ten skills that employers most commonly look for. On the same note, anything that hinders effective communication is bound to have a negative effect not only on the specific message delivery, but also on the overall success of a career. In this paper, some of the barriers to effective business communication are discussed, with a few examples of how they affect the process.
Lots of people thinks that they know themselves very well; they have a right way of communication, they know how to listen and respond to others, even emotional intelligence. Is this what you thought? I did. However after I have done my observe behavior interview to my friends, I believe that self-reflection is important to everyone to understand and improve our own communication styles.
...unication is most interesting and motivating course I have taken this semester.. I found that contacting professor for help in difficulties you face would really be beneficial the way you look things. I learnt to effectively communicate with professors and team members in a more professional member After 4 months through organized coursework, assignments, projects and teamwork I have a clearer vision of how business communication strategies work and really applied few of them in situations of my student life. However, the Business Communication text book was useless as I have never used it. I would like to say a big word of thank you to Diana, and all the fellow classmates of Business Communications X204
This class helped me to become more aware of my weaknesses. I recommend this module to all students. The resources helped me to understand how I could become more effective and to realize my own strengths and weaknesses regarding my skills and working in a group environment. I found the Business Ethics principles an inspiring module. I think everyone should learn these principles.
Before exposure to the content of this course, I was confident in my ability to communicate interpersonally. Upon my first encounter with feedback from my peers, I was surprised to find out that others did not also think this. Coming into this course, I relied heavily on only verbal communication. I was introduced to several important new skills that help me communicate with others more precisely, including paraphrasing, c...
In conclusion, I would have to say that what has been written are only a scratch on a big surface of interpersonal communication skills that I have learned from this class. This concept just happened to be the most important for improvement.
...urse of this module will be extremely beneficial for my future. If I am to have the opportunity to become part of the managerial sector within the IT industry, I believe I will be more confident and have better listening skills. After this course, I have now clearly identified my strengths and weaknesses and identified opportunities and threats that they provide. Hopefully, if I apply the knowledge I have gained from the course, and apply it to the working world, I will be able to handle situations with more confidence, and show much more calamity and assertiveness. NLP can also be used more effectively when communicating with others. After the continuous and consistent team work available throughout this module, I believe management is a more suitable career option for me. As can be seen previously, effective communication is only achieved with constant practise.
