A new entry into the herpes treatment arena, Prosurx is a topical treatment using nanoparticle technology. We carefully researched this product and were somewhat unsettled by our findings.
The Prosurx website claims their product “kills” the herpes virus and can “banish outbreaks with one application”, both claims we found to be misleading, as there is no product that can kill the herpes virus once it is in the human body. The cost is an introductory price of $49.95, regular price is $110.00 for .05 oz of product.
First we went over the ingredients used in the product, Melissa Officinalis, Prunella Vulgaris, Tea Tree Oil, St. John’s Wort, Aloe Vera and Geranium Maculatum are pretty much standard herbal treatments for herpes, other than the Geranium Maculatum.

Prunella Vulgaris is flavinoid rich, an anti-inflammatory, high in tannins, and used in many existing herpes treatments. Tea Tree Oil is also an anti-viral, though it has no effect on the herpes virus after it has penetrated the cell and can be irritating to mucous membranes. St. John’s Wort is a very old traditional treatment studied since the early 90’s with no definitive effect on the herpes virus. St John’s Wort also interacts with numerous drugs, including oral contraceptives, serotonin reuptake inhibitors and triptans (migrane medications). Aloe Vera has anti-viral qualities and helps soothe and speed healing of existing lesions. History of St. John's Wort St. John’s Wort has been in use for about 2400 years and has been utilized for many different purposes throughout history. Some of these less modern uses have been nerve tonic, painkiller, including effectiveness for relieving arthritis pain and menstrual cramping, and relief for gastrointestinal problems such as diarrhea, nausea, and more serious problems like ulcers. Now it is becoming more common as a remedy for depression and anxiety but is simultaneously being tested as a possible type of assistance for AIDS patients because it appears to help the immune system combat viruses.
Curel is special because it is ceramide therapy, this lotion helps the skin build up this layer that it is missing. Overtime the skin will eventually stop breaking out or drying out in certain spots that are usually hot spots for eczema. Unlike other lotions, Curel trains the skin to retain moisture, brands like Aveeno, CeraVe, Nieva and Eucerin do not help build up barrier they only provide relief. That is the biggest problem with these lotions, they do not give skin adequate ammo to repair itself, just sufficient to get rid of a flare up that you will have again, eventually. Soon enough that lotion will not prevent the flare up anymore and you will find yourself looking for a new product to use. Compared to other products Curel is a fair price, in store Aveeno, Eucerin, and CeraVe would run you $10-12 for a 7oz-12oz bottle which makes no sense when they do not work very well, you are forced to use a moisturizer on top of these products because just the lotion alone is not cutting it. Then you have to be careful because mixing products can cause allergic reaction or make matters worse, you end up spending more than needed. The HSV moves and passes through body fluids such as saliva, semen and fluid in the genital tract of females or fluid from the herpes sore present.
