The main role of project methodology in any project is to provide the desired outcome and managed the overall steps of project by coordinating procedure and resource such as scope, time and cost. It helps to assure the accomplishment of any rules, techniques, and process used during the project life cycle. It provides the appropriate communication, broad overview of different methods, approaches, techniques, standards, technologies and planning prior to the start of project work (ITS Project Management Group, 2014).

It is the publication of the Project Management Institute (PMI).PMBOK is most important resources which don't predetermine to routing the project management, but rather as the guidebook that compile five key process groups and ten knowledge areas and that are best practice project management.
In summary, PMBOK is the methodology for handling across a vast range of projects (software, building, major events etc.); Agile is a software development methodology that can be enforced to few projects. Both methodologies have a key element in common, they provide the combination of rules, techniques, and procedures for initiating, planning, executing, controlling, evaluating, managing, and delivering the product to increase the characteristics of enterprise project efficiently and effectively.
The major variance between PMBOK and SCRUM is that the PMBOK plans the project scope, time and budget prior to the development of any product, whereas SCRUM is more extensible, the job is segregated into smaller divisions which helps to reduce the risk through initial estimation, analysis and testing. Mainly, Project scope and communication management cannot be performed using the PMBOK guide procedure in a Scrum
Agile project management is an iterative approach to the planning and monitoring of project processes. Agile projects are conducted in smaller tranches called iterations with each of these iterations closely reviewed and critiqued by the project team (employees, representatives of the clients etc.). The Scrum approach is more effective at managing changes in the project team membership because with the daily meetings, new members can be introduced easier to everyone. Like with the team cohesion, people will learn more about the new members and work better together. With the planned approach, new team members may be introduced to the team by email to make other members aware of who is working on certain tasks but not have much interaction with them as they would in daily meetings.
According to Zwikael and Globerson (2004), "Faulty planning will result in project failure, whereas high-quality project planning increases the project's chances of success." So the trick for any successful project manager is to have the greatest possible awareness of planning tools, techniques, and methods. While we can utilize many project planning tools in several ways that may be interrelated, or even have similar functions i.e. The Critical Path Method and PERT or the MOSCOW and Agile methods, each process can shine under the proper conditions. The availability of IT and cloud-based systems has also increased the accessibility of many of these methods to include Kanban, Scrum, and various simulations. This wide variety and ready availability make skipping the project planning phase inexcusable.

There are numerous surveys and comments from various IT managers that believe that each and every project development needs to use a methodology. However, a consensus is that not one particular methodology is appropriate for every project development process and each IS manager reports modifying methodologies depending on the project.

When planning a new project, how the project will be managed is one of the most important factors. The importance of a managers will determine the success of the project. The success of the project will be determined by how well it is managed. Project management is referred to as the discipline that entails the processes of carefully planning, organizing, controlling, and motivating the organization resources so as to foster and facilitate the achievement of specific established and desired goals and meet the specific criteria of success required in the organization (Larson, 2014). Over the course of this paper I will be discussing and analyzing the importance of project management.
Project planning falls in the Planning Process Group which consists of those processes to establish the projects total scope, define the projects objectives, and courses of action to achieve those objectives. During the planning process, all the documents that are needed to carry the project through the project lifecycle will be developed such as the project management plan. Project management requires repeated feedback loops as additional information becomes available and is better understood. The planning process delineates the strategy, tactics, and path to successfully complete the project. With that, the planning of a project must walk through all the those processes from executing, monitoring and controlling through the closing process.
Requirement management process area of CMMI can be implemented effectively using agile practices. Not all agile methods are fully satisfying this area, if various combination of methods are used its achievable. Mostly, XP is used to satisfy the specific goals and to implement specific practices of CMMI. The second process area that is measurement and analysis it’s not fully convinced by the specific agile method. But, it is possible if combination two or three agile methods such as XP, ASD or may be SCRUM.The project planning process area is almost covered by all agile methods; as there are several iterations in all agile methods, planning phase is applied in short iteration. Plan of project is considered as the base for the progress but this may change if requirements are changed. But using agile methods it’s possible to adjust these changes along with the project progressProject monitoring and control is a vague division of all agile methods. It is not implemented in organized way. But with the use of SCRUM and XP it is possible to do so in very formal
