Hearing the words “professional interview” together in a sentence is nerve-racking, especially if it's your first time. When conducting an interview it may seem easier than being interviewed, but truth is conducting an interview is just as tense. Throughout the interview I partook in an incredible and attention-grabbing conversation which I will share and my experience overall, as well as the information that I found most valuable from the interview, and how the interview enhanced my understanding of the profession that I plan on pursuing in the future.
I conducted my interview with a highly intelligent and captivating man by the name of Dr. Mark Miller, who works at John Tyler, the Midlothian campus as a counselor. Dr. Miller has a Ph.D. in

This experience has enhanced my understanding of counseling and psychology because Dr. Miller has shown me that even though this may seem like an emotional job that most people feel like they wouldn't be able to handle it's about helping those in need of therapeutic or psychological help, people who come with hopes and dreams as a counselor it's their job to help those people utilize their hopes and dreams and that's a counselor’s motivation when coming to work every day, which I hope I can do some day. I learned that the purpose of it all is licensure because a person can have a doctorate in psychology or any other field of study, but without a license they can't do much in that field, but teach. I also learned that when choosing a program for my doctorate I should choose one that is progressive as well as having patience and being flexible in the processes because there will be obstacles along the way, just look at steps right in front instead of stressing about reaching your goal. From the wise words of Dr. Miller, “If you’re committed to climbing the mountain the elevation is irrelevant” and because of that I look forward to the challenges that I may face along the way and every day I will learn something
Ever since I was a child, I was entranced with psychology, but only saw it as a hobby. Now, my interest is in behavior and forensic psychology. The way people behave is fascinating for me to learn about, and any classes that I can take now that would help me in the future are always welcome. Psychology has always interesting to me, but I did not know what exactly it was until seventh grade when one of my friends told me how they had a therapist for her depression. At first, I thought that therapists only listened to people’s problems and then magically solved them, but I soon learned that that wasn’t the case. There were ups and downs with my friend, and she never really got ‘better’ in the sense of her being back to her old self, but therapy did help. When I saw her process, I was intrigued. I always knew that I wanted to help people, but knew no other way than community service. It was through my friend that I finally figured out the answer to what I wanted to do with my
My learning experience within inter-professional was very productive. I personally learned about working in collaboration with other professionals. My first impression was the first seminar which took place in the auditorium with a group of students from different professionals in health care sector. The actual seminar was a very good preparation for me and everyone who is in health professionals. The seminar gave me a very understanding of my future practice. It prepared me well on what to expect as I was not aware of the purpose of mixing different students from different professionals. The outcome of the seminar gave me a clear understanding and gave me opportunity to meet other student. During the seminar, I learned the best way to work
My vision as a practitioner scholar in the field of psychology lies in clinical counseling. As a clinical counselor
For me competency 2 is the ability for us as social workers recognizing the characteristics and factors that help shape an individual’s identity and help define what an individual believes in and what they stand for. These characteristics and factors include things such as gender, ethnicity, culture, religion, age, etc. Its these characteristics and factors that affect an individual’s human experience and it’s what makes each of us incredibly unique. As social workers, we must have both respect and appreciation for diversity. Finally, competency 2 also means that we’re able to see how diversity and difference also brings oppression, marginalization, and as well privilege and power. We must be able to understand the different forms and mechanisms of discrimination and oppression and how
The counselor accomplishes the above by expressing empathy, developing discrepancies, going along with resistance and supporting self-efficacy. Moreover, the counselor guides the client toward a solution that will lead to permanent posi...
The professional mental health counselor I interviewed is my faculty advisor and her name is Dr. Konja Kleeper. She has many credentials and certifications and, as my faculty advisor, is aligned with my licensure and career goals. She is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) and is a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC). She also informed me that any credentials beyond the LPCC and NCC are up to my own discretion.
Interviews are very popular among most individuals especially researchers and scholars as they attempt to obtain information and data from an interviewee. However, there are many factors that influence the interview and which determines its success or failure. Often, the interviewer takes charge of the situation, and they have the sole responsibility of asking the questions while the interviewee provides an explanation or an answer to the question asked. As a result, an interview can be defined as a consultation or a discussion in person through which information and data are exchanged regarding a particular phenomenon event with the intention of establishing the interviewee’s position. It is easy to tell the mood and success of the interview
I decided to pursue clinical psychology for the professional development interview because it is very fascinating to
Initially, Ellis decided to become a psychoanalyst but most psychoanalytic institutes rejected novices who were not medical doctors (Corey, 2013). He located an analyst with the Karen Horney group who decided to train with him. Ellis completed a full analysis and practiced psychoanalytic therapy with a focus on the areas of personality assessment and marriage and family therapy. In the lat...

A career in clinical psychology is one that will be promising for anyone seeking to pursue this career. A clinical psychologists’ educational training is a dead-ringer for success, if completed with a doctorate. A doctorate for a clinical psychologist is the best way to get ahead and have the upper hand in this field. A clinical psychologist’s salary is one that will be growing steadily along with the number of growing demands for psychologists. Anyone who chooses to pursue clinical psychology, that fits the profile for the job, will be set and secure. Clinical psychology is a bright career that I hope to someday enter into, following the pathway that my research has yielded; with that, I may begin my journey.
I used rephrasing as a part of understanding the reason for the client’s visit and repeated the information in a way that we both could understand. The client was able to respond through the questions that I asked her in regards to her situation. I want to get a clear understanding without leaving out valuable information. In the three sessions my intentions were to make sure that what she gave me over the phone matches what she says in the interview. I made sure that when my client was speaking, I took notes on the new information or the information that was not covered in any of the previous sessions. Each session was based upon reflection because I had to make sure progress was being made or not. When my client began to discuss things in a way in which I could not understand, I was able to interpret the information in a way that she and I both understood and agreed upon. The moment an initial contact was made, I started giving my client information on informed consent forms, who I was and the number of years of my social work profession, policies and
Everything became very real as I entered the health care career fair on October 14th. I was expecting to see the same employers and get the same answer, “We don’t hire COTAs. Although my second time attending, I had a different experience. There were multiple booths that were looking to hire occupational and physical therapy assistants. Being close to graduation, made the career fair much more beneficial. The employers were more likely to engage in conversation about your future plans than before. One aspect about the career fair I don’t like is how some of the booths when you approached them, automatically would say they weren’t hiring when we stated that we were in the OTA program. I feel as though this event is to find future careers even
Walk a mile in my shoes… See what I see, hear what I hear, feel what I feel… Then maybe you’ll understand why I do what I do (Jensen Communications, , 2015). This idiom means to me that you need to understand what someone else experiences in order to appreciate what it is they do. This paper will analyze my reflections from the manager interview conducted with Marselle Pruitt, Mgr. Revenue System Testing at FedEx TechConnect in her office on September, 24th 2015.
I was able to assist my dad while he was going through a rough time with my mom. My dad knows who psychologists are, but being able to explain the significance of psychology and encouraging him to see one made me happy. It not only helped him recover with his personal issues, but also helped him understand what my mom is going through. In addition, this topic has impacted me for future use, not only for myself, but for others I can share this knowledge with. The importance of psychology, coping with stress, or knowing what the different types of psychologists can all be applied to my career towards junior personnel, through educating them, or the application of my everyday life, and benefiting my outlook.
