Everything became very real as I entered the health care career fair on October 14th. I was expecting to see the same employers and get the same answer, “We don’t hire COTAs. Although my second time attending, I had a different experience. There were multiple booths that were looking to hire occupational and physical therapy assistants. Being close to graduation, made the career fair much more beneficial. The employers were more likely to engage in conversation about your future plans than before. One aspect about the career fair I don’t like is how some of the booths when you approached them, automatically would say they weren’t hiring when we stated that we were in the OTA program. I feel as though this event is to find future careers even
for people exploring their options. Some of the booths were to quick to steer people away, even though they could be hiring by the time we graduate. The employers that I talked to and found the most interesting were the Holton Community Hospital, St, Francis, Stormont-Vail, Summit Care, and Lawrence Memorial Hospital. I was really glad to be able to talk with the employers from the Holton Hospital, since that is one of my level II fieldwork placements. They offer skilled nursing, home health, and a wide range of rehabilitation services. St. Francis hospital talked a lot about how they are a faith based hospital. I found this interesting, because I was not aware of that, although Steve that was working at their booth was very energetic about St. Francis. He explained how the religious aspect makes your job enriching. Summit Care, Inc. was most likely my favorite booth of the day. I had not heard of Summit Care until the career fair, so I am glad that I had the opportunity to speak with them. They provide assisted living with their focus on creative therapy. Some of the different examples of their creative therapy programs are installing a butterfly garden to release butterflies, aquatic therapy, and attending fieldtrips to the Titanic Museum, NASCAR races, restaurants, craft stores, and the Kauffman Center. I would be very interested in working in this health care setting. Lastly we visited the employers from the Lawrence Memorial Hospital. When I graduate, I plan on staying in Topeka. Most of the other booths were from other parts of the state such as Kansas City, Hutchison, and Wichita. I would not be opposed to driving to Lawrence to work or even Holton. At this booth they showed us how to navigate their website to set up a profile on their page. This enables you to enter you resume and other qualifications even before graduation. You can also set up to be alerted when jobs open up in your desired field. Overall, the career fair this time around was much more beneficial and eye opening.
I went for the Career Network Event and it was a great learning experience for me. I went there trying to apply everything that I learned from my job search class and it was a success. Because I had the chance to speak to the employer of my interest, and I everything went as planned, I remember my professor in class told us to make sure we have a goal and to know which company that we would like to work for and just go for it. I went in there and I did the exact thing that he told us. I remember before taking this class I used to try to speak to every single one of employer and then I put everything in one folder. Later on when I went to contact the job that I was interested in, I would get all the employers mixed up and because of that, that cost me a lot of jobs that I always wanted in the past.
From 1917 to 2017 make 100 years of occupation treatment. The Centennial Vision of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) previously known as National Society for the Promotion of Occupational Therapy defined as followed "We envision that occupational therapy is a powerful, widely recognized, science-driven, and evidence-based profession with a globally connected and diverse workforce meeting society's occupational needs." (AOTA website, 2017). The Centennial Vision was created by taking feedback from both members and non-members of the association based on strategies that will continue to value the treatment of the occupational and promote better leader for the 21st century. The goal of the Centennial Vision is to promote the occupational therapy profession with better strategies.
Becoming an Occupational Therapy Assistant has been an ambition of mine for several years now. After researching, job shadowing, and talking to professionals, I have decided to make Occupation Therapy my career. My passion is to help patients by participating and assisting them in their recovery from injuries and disabilities. My compassionate and caring attitude will be vital assets in pursuing this career. After training in Occupational Therapy, it is motivating for me to know that I will be a part of assisting patients to gain back their independence. Helping others is something that I am passionate about in my career and in my spare time. I have been on several mission trips to Haiti and other places which I have provided care for others in a medical setting.
My learning experience within inter-professional was very productive. I personally learned about working in collaboration with other professionals. My first impression was the first seminar which took place in the auditorium with a group of students from different professionals in health care sector. The actual seminar was a very good preparation for me and everyone who is in health professionals. The seminar gave me a very understanding of my future practice. It prepared me well on what to expect as I was not aware of the purpose of mixing different students from different professionals. The outcome of the seminar gave me a clear understanding and gave me opportunity to meet other student. During the seminar, I learned the best way to work

While growing up I had many ideas of what professional career I wanted to obtain, although until recent years, occupational therapy was not even a thought. It was not until my grandmother had a stroke that I even knew what occupational therapy was or entailed. I watched my grandmother participate in therapy leading her to learn how to tie her shoes again, and the things I thought were so simple as to dress herself again. It was during that time as high school graduation was approaching that I realized I wanted to be apart of that. I wanted to have a role helping others learn and exceed as she did because I seen how much joy it brought her. This experience opened my eye to the things we so often take for granted, that some people lose the ability of doing or lack the ability of doing. Throughout her journey of facing and overcoming these problems, it led me to a yearning to pursue this
For the longest time I could not decide on a major and a career to study throughout college. When I came to Georgia Southern University I discovered that they had a major that was very interesting to me. Sport Management id the ideal major for my interest and me. Since I love sports I figured that this would be the career for me. A degree in Sport Management helps to prepare for success in sport related occupations.
It is simple to look at an individual’s life and analyze and critique their choices based on our own opinions and experiences. Is that fair? No. We may see their actions clearly but the reasoning behind these is what we should focus on when it comes to judging someone’s behavior or circumstances. A common judgment made about a person is based on their career. In our society, it would behoove us to look at the path that leads to becoming a doctor instead of a drug dealer.

So with looking further into all of the different criminal justice paths I could go down and with my love for science I thought being a forensic scientist would be the perfect job. After I’m done with college, my successful will continue. Regardless my main goal is to just be happy, and never have to struggle for anything. But, when I think about my future the first thing I always think about is the car I want. Which is so odd because I should be thinking about a place to live, and a family maybe first, then a car. But no, I want my all white Cadillac CTS. Depending on what year I get enough money to purchase this perfect car, I’m going to want to the newest year. Just so I can have all the newest interior and the technology. I want to one day, have a family and a decent sized house in a big city. I haven’t really decided yet if I either want to go into the FBI or just work for the local police station wherever I decide to live.

My ultimate goal is to receive my Doctoral degree in social psychology from University of California Berkeley or Stanford University. After receiving my Doctoral degree, I would like to pursue a career in academia by teaching and participating in research. I have also considered a career in research separate from academia, where I would be free to focus on research and less on teaching. My main career goal is to continue to do research and further knowledge in social psychology. The social psychology program at San Francisco State University would help me achieve this goal because they have a strong emphasis on research. The program requires research under a faculty member in their lab, starting one’s first day in the program. The program also
I believe everyone has a reason for the career path they choose. Some choose by submitting a career test, some by following in a parents footsteps and other choose based on personal hardships or experiences. For myself, my reason for choosing social work was a family hardship with addiction, a struggle to find significance in the career I had originally chose and I saw many opportunities in the social work profession, allowing me to work with various populations.
As I reflect on my past assessment process, I realized how much my assessments have changed over the years. In my early years, I used tests for informational recall as my assessments. I felt these were appropriate guidelines in which I needed to follow in order to substantiate a student’s grade. Every assignment or tests was given a point value and then based on the amount of points, a grade was given. Every student’s assessment was exactly the same, and the assessments did not contain any subjectivity. I felt confident in giving the grade based on a valid point system. However reflecting back, I see that I did not include any performance-based assessments or individual learning styles in my early assessment. I also did not take into consideration the individual needs of my students. My assessment approach was awful. I am embarrassed that I use to assess students in this manner.
According to the study of this course, I have learned many useful management skills and I feel like these skills will be applied to my future career development. When working on the self- assessment tests, I found myself fall into the category of the ISTJ personality types, which as illustrated by Myers Briggs, is the type of personality that is conscientious, considerate, and helpful. Personality traits such as honest, dutiful, practical and responsible are my strengths; personality traits such as stubborn, insensitive and poor communication skill are my weaknesses. Related to the knowledge I have learned in the course I believe both strengths and weakness will have influence to my future career development. In this reflection paper, I will demonstrate the strengths and weaknesses that may place the most influence on my way of success.
