My ultimate goal is to receive my Doctoral degree in social psychology from University of California Berkeley or Stanford University. After receiving my Doctoral degree, I would like to pursue a career in academia by teaching and participating in research. I have also considered a career in research separate from academia, where I would be free to focus on research and less on teaching. My main career goal is to continue to do research and further knowledge in social psychology. The social psychology program at San Francisco State University would help me achieve this goal because they have a strong emphasis on research. The program requires research under a faculty member in their lab, starting one’s first day in the program. The program also …show more content…
While I loved creatively writing, I found that writing analytically came very naturally to me. I discovering the natural draw and talent I had for the subject pushed me to change my major. Once I changed my major to psychology, I began taking more in depth classes on psychology and its different specializations and noticed that I loved looking at the aspects of people socially that are effected by psychology. Taking a class focusing on social psychology allowed me to not only explore the specialization I was growing passionate about, but also gave me the chance to create a relationship with my advisor, Dr. John Ernst. From our class, I reached out to Dr. Ernst about research opportunities and I became a research assistance on a project he was currently working on with leadership behavior and objectification. As a research assistant, I worked with Dr. Ernst and another student, in conducting experiments with groups of students where I would give them directions, play them a recorded situation and gave them surveys to fill out. I also helped with data entry and data analysis. After the pilot round of participants, I
My development as a writer has flourished throughout this semester. The first week of this fall semester started out with writing responses from our readings in the textbook. Looking back through and analyzing my reading responses at the semester to now; I noticed a substantial improvement in not only my grammar skills, but also my summarizing, and in-depth studying of writing adeptness. Another way I have progressed this semester is the vocabulary of my writing has significantly improved and become more scholarly. Another advancement I noticed was that the content of my work has matured, along with my organizational adeptness.

I was fortunate to attend two amazing institutions with incredible programs, Centralia College and Washington State University Vancouver. Centralia College provided me with an opportunity to demonstrate the strength of my skills through a six month research based project with the goal of improving training at the Writing Center. The Independent Project enabled me to strengthen my professional skills through interviewing, writing center directors
The journey through language and literature has always been an intriguing one for me. It is for this reason that I chose English as my major. It seems that every teacher or professor that I have had, has always been able to pinpoint one specific element in my writing that I need to work on. This has not been a negative thing by any stretch, because with each passing semester there is an element of my literature that will be perfected for the next. This is the wonder that is English, and the reason for my passion in this subject area.
that I wanted to pursue a career in the medical field but I was not sure
Interacting with my professors as a teacher's assistant and research assistant gave me a chance to discover at a more personal level what psychology is all about. Although I am seeking a M.A. in General Psychology at this time, I do have specific goals for my future. I hope to continue my education past the M.A. and receive a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology, counseling individuals and eventually acquiring a teaching position with a college or university.
My internship with the small business, The Cambridge Professional Center, LLC located in Morristown, NJ was a uniquely incredible experience. During my time at the center, I was able to work on a range of different projects, like publishing a book to sitting in and partaking in therapy sessions; consequently, I was able to explore, in the real world, the two fields I want to major in, Psychology and English. Although I have only interned at the center for three weeks or 78 hours, this experience has taught me a great deal about others and myself; furthermore, the senior project has shown me what I want to do in the future. In fact, brainstorming and writing this paper has helped me reflect and analyze on my personal growth throughout this experience.
Which university will you attend? What are you planning on majoring in? Are you going to move out after high school? What are your career plans? Questions I hear daily, yet remain unanswered. This is just a small part of the struggles we teenagers face every single day. Balancing school, extra curriculars, work and a social life all while maintaining physical and mental health proves to be practically impossible these days. Although our parents try their best to make our transition into adulthood as seamless as possible, it happens in the blink of an eye. One day you’re being treated like a child and the next you’re expected to be a well rounded young adult able to provide for yourself and handle the weight of the real world.
Earning my masters as a psychology practitioner-scholar is the first goal in manifesting my vision, it is my career foundation. After completing the master’s program in psychology my next goal is to someday obtain a position as a behavioral specialist. I would like to remain in my current position as an elementary school teacher, a little longer to gain experience before making this career change. As a behavior specialist, I will provide my services where desired, in school systems. There, I can make a great impact within the community and the lives of children. Behavior specialist are also able to work independently, in homes, schools, hospitals, and treatment agencies. The opportunities after receiving my masters are vast and will open the doors to different careers if desired. Sternberg states, “Graduate students can be confident of diverse kinds of careers and practicing psychologists often can change the kind of work they do or the setting they work in while remaining within the field of psychology.” I want to graduate and have earned a masters in psychology by
As I am preparing for a new chapter in my life, I have put a lot thought in about what I want out of life and what to look forward to as I get older. In order for one to achieve anything, they need to set goals to reach for. I have a handful of goals for my future, short term and long term, that I will actively work towards in my college years and beyond. In my time at UW Eau Claire, I plan to be involved and engaged in student activities on campus. Being active will help me meet new people, build a better resume, and have fun at college. At UWEC, I would like to get involved in anything musical, along with various clubs and Greek life. Similarly, another goal of mine is to have a job on campus. Having a job will not only help me make some
What is my personal purpose? Is a question that I have never thought to ask myself until recently. Then when I started learning more about a personal purpose I started wondering if I have one and what it was. I never thought of myself has having a real purpose until a watched an interview Will Smith had did and he had said “When your life means something to someone other than yourself than you have a purpose.” That is when I realized that I have a purpose. My purpose is that I am the hug that let others know it is going to be ok. My personal goals is to be genuinely happy with myself and life and to make my parents proud, my career goal is to own my own business and being successful at doing so, finally, my educational goal is to get my bachelors degree and grauate with honors and even moving on to getting my masters. Having goals is important to me because I know that while I am in the process of accomplishing them I will have something great to look forward to in the end.

Author E.M. Forster once said, “How do I know what I think until I see what I say?”(Forster). Academic writing has the ability to reveal the students inscribed thoughts and opinions in ways that may surprise even them. The better get at writing analytically, the easier it is for them to apply those skills to other aspects of their life. People who write in journals often find it a useful form of exploring self-awareness (Ribeiro 2015). By writing down student ideas and perspectives in essays, even in non-academic disciplines, they hone their own expression skills, identify patterns, observed events and consider possible solutions. The skills we are learn for college and university can help us in career, as well. Reports for office jobs, essays for scientific journals and many other careers require us to know academic writing. Learning it early and getting lots of practice is a good way to get ahead in our
Ever since I was a little girl when asked what I want to be when I grew up I rapidly responded by a model, or an actress. Most kids probably said a scientist, doctor, lawyer, teacher or even an astronaut. I was set on being an entertainer and nothing else was even remotely appealing. My role model growing up was Raven-Symone and she heavily influenced my career goals. I wanted to be everything she was, mind you I was like 9. She could sing, dance, and act and that was very fascinating to me. I can vividly remember being in elementary school and completing assignments where we had to discuss our future careers and doing arts and craft that related to them. The old projects were used to show our growth throughout the school year and we presented
1. I grew up in a family where work was an important aspect, but both of my parents did not always work. My father had many medical issues and was unable to walk for many years. Financial stability was always looked at as the ideal. I was taught working is just a part of life and you should do it to survive. Both of my parents did not attend college, but encouraged me to go to college. They were not happy when I wanted to also go to graduate school because they did not see the point of doing so. I was fortunate to have their help and support in my undergraduate degree because this allowed me to not have to work too much. I did have a lot of volunteer positions and ultimately got what I would call a real job in 2014 doing counseling like services in the community. I always knew I wanted to help people and I enjoyed doing this job, but decided to go back to school for my Master’s so I could ultimately open my own private practice.
