It is up to the individual professional to plan by broaden and deepen their skills and knowledge by implementing professional development plan. It’s imperative to set goals for professional growth and development plan through available continuing education, training programs and research to improved job performance, skills and knowledge. I grew up in Nigeria, had my high school and nursing education in Nigeria. I grew up around nurses and made me for fall in love with nursing profession. It was not because of their white uniform then, but because of the way they talk and care for their patient around me. It took me another eight years after my high school to further my education due to financial constrain. In year 2003, I was opportune to be admitted into school of nursing, I had my associate degree in nursing and graduated in 2003 as a registered nurse. After that, I went for one month certification program and had occupational nursing certification in the same year. I started working with Construction Company as a site nurse and Private Hospital on weekend shift. I further my education in specialty nursing for more knowledge and skills in nursing field. I graduated from school of psychiatric nursing in 2006 for another one year program in psychiatric nursing and started working with psychiatric hospital as a psychiatric nurse, still maintained my private nursing job as part-time job with different shift, depending on my psychiatric hospital shift. I moved into United State in May, 2010 with my husband and did Nursing Assistant certification the same year and started working as Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in 2011 and at the same time preparing for my National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) …show more content…
I am also privileged to be part of the clinical leader in the dialysis unit where I work now. I am among the preceptors that train the new nurses, monitor infection control, educating staff and monitoring of hand hygiene compliance in the clinic. I acted as a backup Facility Administrator, infection control manager, clinical nurse manager, charged nurse. I did some researches during my undergraduate studies such as Hand Hygiene and Healthcare Associated Infections in Evidence –based practice and Applied Nursing research course. I love to learn new skill and gain more knowledge all the time in order to care take good care of my patients and even for my family as well as to be a good future leader in nursing field both in my community and also worldwide

The professional development plan for nursing graduates is a program that was started by the government with the aims of creating a smooth transition from the student experience to workplace experience. Despite having learnt several ethical and professional contents, the professional development plan ensures that, all the graduate nurses have a smooth transition that ensures they deliver quality and standard services as expected of them (Gordon & Franklin, 2003). Under the nursing professional plan, the nurses are supposed to bring together personal and professional skills in order to improve the quality of the nursing practice in the country.
My courses and experience has empowered, and has reinforced my determination to pursue a career as a nurse. I am eager and excited about starting nursing school, and having my dream which started as a young girl to come full circle. I am convinced I am a good candidate because I have the innate drive to complete the program. I am willing to learn and use those skills and knowledge acquired to provide something meaningful to the society and humanity. When making the decision for your career path, it is crucial to choose a course of study that ignites your interests and passion. The potential for advancement within the nursing career is definitely a positive aspect because it allows for the ability to grow within the field. Nursing is never stagnant and it always provides the chance for you to further enhance your knowledge. Qualities, opportunities, and goals are a necessity for me when making decisions because it allows me to work towards something and accomplish it. In his book, 7 Summits, Hickey (2009) states, “Goals are the dreams that drive us to succeed and to seek our highest pursuits” (p.64). I personally work exceedingly well when I begin with the ending goal in mind because this causes me to notice my own advancement. Learning is considered a long term goal as it helps in continuity and evolution professionally (Thibault, 2011). It is important for me to be updated for best possible care provision. I will achieve this by developing interest to study towards attainment of highest levels of education for example PHD programs, attending education forums hosted by different universities, workshops and health seminars. My other long term ambitions include joining nurses’ professional organizations, administration duties and management skill acquisition and job promotions.

I am working as a staff nurse at one of the Integrated Management System (IMS) accredited hospital in Sarawak since 2014. I qualified as a Registered Nurse with a Diploma in Nursing in year 2007. My first year I have been working in a multi-disciplinary ward. We cover a range of specialties including minor and major surgeries. The health care team in my ward consists of 1 Unit Manager, 20 staff nurses and 15 care assistants.
Attaining professional growth through continuous learning and development will offer several opportunities to pursue advanced degrees, specialist training including attending workshops and conferences, with revalidation certificates that will promote career progression and improve patient outcomes and healthcare industry development. Barrier Stress and burnout from academic workloads, demands of professionalism, and clinical responsibilities on placement with limited access to resources and support for international students like me increases doubting of accomplishments, fear that might reduce performance, patient care outcome, lifestyle and general productivity. Familiarity with terminology usage in nursing in the clinical setting might be challenging, especially for me transitioning from another field of speciality like me which can result in miscommunication, decreased patient/self-satisfaction and misunderstanding during placement and after.

Pursuing nursing is my passion as it is my ambition to be there to help and serve others which I know will bring value to my own life as well. Whether that is in a position of health promotion and teaching kids about stress relief at a health fair like I was able to this last fall. The goals I set included taking the NCLEX examination once I got approval from the board, getting a few months of work experience in either hospital or skilled nursing facility, and start Registered Nurse (RN) to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program by spring of 2016. I am lucky that I have been able to accomplish the goals that I set when I was still in nursing school. I also challenged myself to finish the BSN program within a year which is why I decided to study at CSU Fullerton; they offered the 1-year BSN program for registered nurses. To achieve this goal, I quit my job to be a full time student. Now, I have another goal in mind that I want to pursue after school. I want to become a mental health clinical nurse specialist after I get my BSN degree. By December 2016, I will have my BSN degree and I will apply to a hospital and work there for at least two years to gain more knowledge and experience. By early 2019, I will go back to school for a master’s degree. Continuing education in the nursing profession is essential in delivering the highest optimal care to patients. The idea of family and kinship may seem universal, however in actuality there are many different definitions and thoughts surrounding these words. Depending on where in the world your family could mean your biological parents or it could mean a group of close friends living together. In most Western societies men are viewed as the head of the household, and family names are passed along patrilineally. In this part of the world, “family” is thought of as those who are directly related to us by blood; parents, grandparents, and siblings for example. While there can be members of a family who aren’t related by blood, they usually have a prefix before their title. Adding “adoptive” or “step” before a word like ‘sibling’ implies that while this person is considered part of the family, they don’t share a biological bond. The fact that this clarification is necessary highlights how deeply genetics are engrained into the definition of family in the eye’s of Western societies.
