Professional Communication Skills Course Analysis

I am looking forward to this course and all that I can learn throughout our time together. I hope to acquire the skills to further my professional communication skills in a variety of ways. Recently I started working at Upstate University hospital, I am 20 years old and this is my first “real” job. Previously I worked at Wegmans as a cashier, where professional communication was not expected or required. At my new job the atmosphere is much more formal and I find that I am having to send various emails to nursing managers and supervisors regarding scheduling and such. In many cases I have never met these people and I am unsure of where to begin. I think that this course will help me to develop these key communication skills that I will be able

to put to use at my current job, and in the future. I have been relying on mentors to proofread my emails and assist me in constructing them in a professional and concise way before sending them, however I am excited to gain knowledge from this class so that I can grow professionally and handle communications on my own.
This class will help me in my future career in a variety of ways. I am hoping that I will learn how to handle myself professionally through various communication methods, as well as how to write formal documentation and such. As an occupational therapy major, much of my future career will include documenting client visits and treatments, and communicating with other allied health professionals. I am looking forward to acquiring the skills needed to conduct clear, concise and professional communication through a variety of outlets. This will be paramount in my success as an occupational therapy professional.
