I’ve learned a great deal in this class that will be helpful in my own treatment and management of my life. The most important things I learned were the different approaches to psychology as well as their therapeutic techniques and methods. I am very interested in finding a practitioner/specialist in behavior therapy and focusing on my behavior. I would also like to take a closer look at rational emotive behavior therapy. Since the client and clinician work together to focus on treating the patient in the now and build a rational philosophy of life and live a rational lifestyle. Clients can also learn to use the ABC system for understanding their own issues as well as the foundation of those issues. I am interested in managing myself rather than staying in counseling for years. Another important learning items is the concept of thinking distortions, some of which I experience myself and some I recognize in family members. Most notably are arbitrary inference and selective
The biggest lesson I learn during this class is time management. I have a 9 month old baby and he allows wants my attention. I had to rely on a family member to take care of him while I get a few hours to read the textbook and do the writing assignments. I had to truly focus on my work and not go to social sites because I barely had time to do so.
I’m convinced that much learning has occurred in this course, both on your part and on mine. According to the textbook there are three ways to intervene with group members. The three ways are intrapersonal interventions, Interpersonal interventions and environmental interventions. Intrapersonal intervention focuses on cognition and the affects, interpersonal intervention focuses on relationships and environmental intervention focuses on seeking change. I might use intrapersonal intervention to see if someone beliefs affect the decision that was or will be made. My thought about this course that I was expecting so far , was that it’s going to be easy. But a little bit challenging and it’s exactly what I thought. It’s also very organized, to make it easier to find all the weekly content, discussions, assignments and quizzes. They have the categories labeled so you can know what items go with the lesson. The most useful success/study strategies I applied during week 1 was to first read over the lesson and objective , also the announcement to get an head start of the lesson to be able to know what to expect to learn. Group therapy is considered one of the most resourceful forms of therapy. The benefits to group therapy can be both cost-effective and a great means of support (Corey, Corey & Corey, 2014). The process of experiencing ideas and viewpoints expressed by your peers allows group members to become more susceptible to the counseling procedure. Group counseling also helps individuals to feel a sense of belonging due to similar situations and experiences shared by the group. The sense of support from group members can be an excellent means towards developing long-lasting relationships and developing communication skills needed to move forward during the counseling phase. When it comes to applying or facilitating behavior change there are many ways to do so. With community health workers man skills are taught and learned over course of time with many diverse clients. One of the many techniques taught stems from the change theory where community health workers learn there are many different steps to when a person is ready to make a change. This course taught me many things that I never knew before or would think of when I eventually become a father. I might not be a father now but after taking this class I feel prepare more than ever. When I do become a father I plan making a script, setting goals, applying some of the things that I learned in class such as the importance of co-parenting, praising, and how I spend time with my child.
