As I mentioned earlier, after taking this class I now feel that I better understand what mindfulness is and how it can be used to help benefit me in my future endeavors. As an accounting and business analytics major with strong interests in health and fitness, I believe that by living more mindfully I can not only benefit my professional growth, but also enhance my relationships with myself and those around me. This is for several reasons. Typically those who follow careers in accounting or business analytics tend to work long hours in semi-stressful situations. This would allow me to take on clients over the Internet and coach them in bettering themselves, by helping them to reach their goals through diet and strength training. Some important mindfulness techniques that I feel can help me to be a better coach for my clients includes focusing on just what is going on in the present moment, whether it be a client interaction, or bettering my content to help my clients. Another useful tool will be my ability to mindfully communicate with others to get the most out of client interactions, allowing me to cater to their needs rather than waste both their and my time in a non-value added interaction. This relates with the plans that I plan to put together as well. So often people sign up for these types of online coaching services and end up getting a “cookie cutter” plan that is not truly geared towards them. I plan to differentiate myself by truly focusing on my clients needs and rather than going on autopilot, which would not be beneficial to my clients, I would instead stay in the present moment and realize that I need to put in my effort so that they can in turn put in their effort and make a change in their life. Whether this be by putting training plans together that fit their needs, or helping them to understand nutrition and the importance of a healthy relationship with food, I feel that I can
The intention of this written essay is to demonstrate an understanding of my views on reflection and the issues surrounding reflective practice. It is based on nursing skills that I used during my practice placement, most importantly reflecting on the professional value of privacy and dignity.
As I planed to take this class, I thought this course would be like all other general education courses. I believed that it would be of little use to me. However, after attending the first class, my view has changed completely. I applied each and every theory to my life.
Meditation is an age-old practice that has renewed itself in many different cultures and times. Despite its age, however, there remains a mystery and some ambiguity as to what it is, or even how one performs it. The practice and tradition of meditation dates back thousands of years having appeared in many eastern traditions. Meditation’s ancient roots cloud its origins from being attributed to a sole inventor or religion, though Bon, Hindu, Shinto, Dao, and later, Buddhism are responsible for its development. Its practice has permeated almost all major world religions, but under different names. It has become a practice without borders, influencing millions with its tranquil and healing effects.
Impulse control and decision-making, both executive functions, are believed to center in the ventromedial prefrontal cortex (Bechara, Damasio, Damasio, & Anderson, 1994). Damage to this area increases deficits in decision making (Bechara et. al.,1994). Research has shown that chronic heroin use negatively impacts an individual’s ability to restrain impulses, leading to lack of planning and decreased adaptive and social cognition (Pau, Lee, & Chan, 2001). Heroin is a powerful opiate that crosses the blood-brain barrier and produces potent euphoria (Pau, Lee, & Chan, 2001). Impulse control is defined as an individual’s tendency to act on arising wishes or urges (Murphy & Mackillop, 2012). Greater mindfulness has been shown to decrease substance dependent individuals’ urge to use substances (Murphy & Mackillop, 2012). Mindfulness focuses on the emphasis on staying in the present moment, the natural impermanence of things in an individual’s environment, and the awareness of actions such as noticing what is experienced without judgment or reactive behavior (Murphy & Mackillop, 2012). Research on the implementation of mindfulness techniques and their ability to decrease impulsivity is necessary in order to examine the ways heroin-dependent adults react cognitively, behaviorally, and physiologically to external stimuli.
Therapy Analysis The purpose of this paper is to examine the efficacy of my work as a co-therapist during the fifth session with the simulated couple Katy and Michelle. I will discuss our therapy agenda and the goals we hope to attain during the session. It is prudent to begin by giving a brief outline of the couple’s present problem and the patterns of dysfunction that I have identified within their relationship. In my opinion, it is the therapist’s job to recognize patterns and behaviors that disrupt the intimate bond between the partners.
The term reflection means the examination of personal thoughts and actions. For nurses this means focusing on how they interact with their colleagues and with the environment to obtain a clearer picture of their own behaviour. This means it is a process in which a nurse can better understand themselves in order to be able to build on existing strengths and take appropriate future action (Somerville, 2004). Reflection is a way to bring your own intuition along with empirical knowledge together. Reflective practice in nursing is guided by models of reflection. Reflective practice model serves as a framework within which nursing or other management professions can work. Reflective practice model is also a structural framework or learning model that serves the purposes of a profession and is particularly applicable to health related professions. Reflective practice enables practitioners to learn to value themselves as significant people with values and feelings that are important factors in giving care. Whilst reflective practice allows the nurse to recognise the value of their experiences, they may also need support to work through a difficult situation. This is where reflection aids nurses in dealing with these challenging experiences (Johns, 1995). Reflection on experience offers nurses the opportunity to reflect on caring in practice in ways that its nature can be understood, where the skills necessary for effective caring can be developed and most significantly, where the values of caring for people can be highlighted, both to the individual nurse and the world in general (Johns 1996)
The first gummy bear we explored slowly. We looked at it closely, smelled it, touched it, even “listened” to it. The next one we ate as we normally would, mindlessly. We discussed how this principle of being mindful is applicable to everyday lives. I learned so much from watching my supervisor teaching this principle. She cared about the quality of life of her patients. Many of them are depressed or anxious and find it hard to have a positive attitude. Practicing mindfulness is something that most people probably have on their daily to-do list, but never getting around to it because they either don’t believe it’ll work or feel too busy with their lives to stop for literally just a minute to breathe. When going into this activity, my to-do is exactly what was in mind. It’s the list that is never completed. So, having this as an actual assignment was exactly what I needed to get a jumpstart on my mindfulness techniques in my daily life.
The proposal study will identify the mindfulness of each participant as they go through the training program to analyze their own actions/reactions and behaviors within their selves. To develop an effectiveness meditation program, the study will help maintain the healthy, functional development of a healthy individuals within the sixteen universities. The appropriate study will become beneficial and reliable to evaluate and acknowledge the self-aware and the environment of individuals within the six-month study.
The job environment for an accountant would be mostly done in a typical office setting (“Accountants and Auditors”). Some people may be able to work from their homes, or if the business has more than one facility they might have to travel to the different facilities (“Accountants and Auditors”). The typical hours for an accountant depend on what type of accounting they do. The normal hours for a week are between 40-50 hours, but a tax & financial and auditors may put in 70 hours in a week (“Welcome to Careers in Accounting”). Individuals would also be working as a team with others on an important account or on financial statements (“Welcome to Careers in Accounting”).

Prior to practicing mindfulness, I would run from place to place and moment to moment. I never took a moment to stop and take in all that surrounds me, because I was always too busy running towards the next big thing and looking for future happiness. Mindfulness was frustrating at the beginning, because for so long I was used to tuning things out and living in the present seemed like a waste of time. Once I began to live in the present it seemed as if I had a “senses awakening.” I was able to live in the present and experience all that life had to offer in the present and it exploded my mind with the beauty surrounding me that I missed. I was able to take in my surroundings through my senses and still my mind, which brought me back to the center. Through this sense of centering and living in the present, a walk from class to class became a time to touch base within my self and come back to the present before the next thing. I understand my styles and behaviors better now. Too bad I didn’t take this course earlier in life. Understanding myself will help me understand other people better I believe. That will be helpful concidering the profession I intend to have.
Taking this class this semester has really changed the way that I have viewed myself when it has come to work and the different companies that I have worked before. I have taken a psychology class before but I have never taken one that relates to management and organizations. This class has really helped me answer different questions such as why I was unhappy at some jobs, enjoyed some managers over others, and what motivated me to work hard at jobs. It’s good to learn that there are different terms and definitions for different feeling and things I experienced at jobs to know that their other people experiencing these things also. I will be going into a management position after I graduate, and this class helped me to learn many different ways to go about managing and things to avoid to keep a positive working environment.
