The Profession of Arms:
Human Resources in the Profession Human Resource (HR) Sergeants are the back bone of the Army. Well not technically but it does have a nice ring to it. The first line in the NCO creed states “No one is more professional than I” which describes the Human Resource NCOs that continue to better the organization as a whole. The HR community has transformed in the past 10 years to better provide continuity of service and support to Soldiers whether deployed or at home station. One must analyze the many changes over the past decade to understand that the Army is made up of Professionals. To understand if the Army is a profession one must analyze what a profession is and what makes someone a professional. The key for professionals is effectiveness, rather than pure efficiency— the sick want a cure, the sinner wants absolution, the accused want exoneration, and the defenseless seek security. Professionals continuously develop their expertise and use their knowledge in the best interests of society in other words they are servants to the American people. All professions are made up of professionals who have skill, are trust worthy, possess leadership skills, and moral character. …show more content…

There are different levels to Army culture: Artifacts, Espoused Beliefs and Values, Basic underlying assumptions, professional identity, Community, and hierarchy. At the Core of the of the culture is the Army Ethics “Being a Soldier means conducting yourself at all times so as to bring credit upon you and the Nation” TRADOC (2010).
