What I Was: A Look Back
This is an analysis of myself in the past regarding the presentation skills issue.
In our country, public speaking and presentation are two very important and yet overlooked skill. Like many others, I didn’t have a good presentation skill. I wasn’t a good speaker. Whenever I wanted to speak, my brain would stop functioning, mouth dried, I’d practice the whole speech beforehand and forget it when called on stage. I suffered from serious shyness, stage fright, nervousness etc. My legs would tremble when called on the stage. And whatever I managed to speak despite all these issues, things came out poorly phrased.

Pace: I learned to speed my speech up or slowdown in order to emphasize on the right part of the speech.
4. Pause: I learned that pauses can be my friend when I’m asking a question or making a point.
5. Intonation: I learned to intonate my speech better.
6. Posture: I improved my poor posture and understood that confidence can also be projected through posture.
7. Gesture: I learned to match my gesture to my speech. Moreover, I now understand the different types of gestures used in speech.
8. Phrasing: I have overcome my problem of poor phrasing.
9. Nerves: I’m now no longer scared to go up on the stage and talk.
10. Stage fright: I have finally conquered my fear of being on the stage.
11. Quick thinking: I now have the ability of fixing the minor mistakes on stage during the speech without making a big fuss.
12. Hiding M.E.: I can now also hide micro expressions caused by momentary stress on stage.
13. Expressing emotions: previously, I would have been one robotic dud. Now I can express my emotions with my speech.
14. Reading people: I can now read the basic body language of people and respond accordingly.
15. Visual aids: I can now make the proper and best use out of visual aids.
