The student outcomes for this course are to incorporate and learn different forms of material that will help the student deliver a structured speech. In order to deliver logical and organized speeches. As well as learning to speak with confidence and to understand how to control their own individual body movement when delivering a speech. The way we communicate can be very important in representing ourselves in our community. In the beginning, of the semester, we watched a movie regarding a royal member whom was looked down upon because of his verbal pauses. However, throughout the movie he learns to work with his speaking style. He may have not completely eliminated the flaw but, he did learn how to overcome and adjust with it is style of public speaking. Public speaking is very power it as the authority to make an audience shock, upset, surprised, disbelief, and even to become inspired. By using structure in a speech and applying ethos, pathos, and logos can create a deeper connection to the audience. Therefore, the most impactful part of a speech is its introduction. Such that if the speaker implies a power attention getter they are able to deliver their message successfully. In my class presentation, the times I won speaker of the day I noticed that within my speech the only reason why I was selected was because I provided a strong attention getter and because my voice was very loud and it had minimal of verbal pauses. I have learned that any speech can be delivered successfully when the elements of structure and practiced are present. It is important to be organized in this class in order to keep track of all the speeches and to organize a time span where you can practice your speech. On the other hand, I feel it is important to find your speaking style because that way you can adjust your speech with the way you speak. For example, I tend to speak very fast so, I like to create speeches that flow with the speed of my communication. One of the most important things in this class is to attend. Student have to attend this class because there are various opportunities to learn how to improve their skills and to observe other forms of communications by their fellow classmates. Lastly, the main foundation for any good speech is to create many drafts for your speeches. For any future oral communication students to succeed in this course, I would recommend to simple practice. A phrase that is often times very repeated but, it is very important for an oral communication class. This lecture is divided into three parts: My childhood dreams, enabling the dreams of others and lessons learned. Dr. Randy Pausch told his audience what he believed and valued with his proper body languages, effective and efficient delivery and interesting and attractive visual aids. The delivery of my speech portrays a sense of calmness and seriousness. I used this style of speaking to show the importance of my subject, lack of organ donors. Throughout the presentation I used note cards as a guide and frequently made eye contact with my audience. When giving facts that I felt were important I made sure to look at the camera to show there significance. I also added my input into some of the facts to try and convince my listeners to become organ donors
Style: In terms of style I plan to use a high level of friendliness, which allows me to talk to the audience as a fellow student. While also using informality and low power to make the audience feel at ease.
In life, we rarely have the chance for a do-over, but I feel like returning to college is mine. Throughout high school, my grades were never above average and until about a couple of years ago I considered myself to be unintelligent. What I failed to see was my level of commitment. Once I began applying myself, the grades earned reflected that. This concept coincides to my public speaking ability. Many students, including myself, walk into a speech class thinking that it will be the Easy A of the semester and quite frankly I devoted a good amount of time and hard work to earn my A’s and B’s for this course. Overall, my public speaking growth in terms of listenability were influenced by the following: the strategy keys in correctly engaging the audience; the structure keys appropriate for a speech versus a paper; the support keys by continually engaging the audience; and finally the style keys by practicing the use of body language and reducing the verbal junk.
Being a good public speaker is an important skill to have because it improves various areas of everyday life. Public speaking improves communication skills which as a result improves relationships with others. Listening and understanding what someone is saying makes it easier to respond to them in an appropriate way and having that form of effective communication makes people want to have more interactions in the future. One of the most important skills obtained from public speaking is that it improve confidence in one’s communicating skills and increases one’s ability to read people. Being able to read others and understand their emotions and nonverbal communication helps someone understand if their point is being received and responded to in a positive way.
Over the recent four months in Communication 1402 class, I have addressed three formal speechs and completed a number of chapters in the corresponding textbook “Communication Works”. This course of Communication aims to provide general information what public speaking is and how to address a public speaking. Recalling back the experience during the processes of completing the Speech to Imform, Speech to Persuade, and Group Presentation, I will draw a conclusion about this course and these three presentations in five aspects, comprising my previous perception of public speaking before this course; learning from the Speech to Inform; the goal and evaluation of Speech to Persuade; learning from the Group Presentation; the most important thing learned from this course.
The main topic developed throughout this chapter is the importance of organizing while we give a speech. First, the general definition of organizing is exposed, stating that although we may have identified the principal points in our speech. And have the three parts every speech should have (introduction, body and conclusion). Many times the way we express our ideas can make listeners confuse about what they are listening to, not knowing the timeline of what was explained; and therefore, not getting a full understanding on the topic. After that, several useful recommendations are given: how to choose the main points we are going to develop, write a clear and concise thesis statement (which should state our specific goals for giving the speech), how to create a decent
I have also learned about different types of audiences and speeches including persuasive, informative, entertaining and delivering special occasion speeches. It came to my attention that whenever I was making these presentations or speeches, I needed to do so with confidence, consistence and practice before the actual presentation and completely eliminate the element of panic. It was also clear that capturing the attention of the audience and engaging them in the whole process, it was necessary to have a very strong introduction and also try and use visuals to deliver the message. It was therefore vital to respect each person’s diversity and cultural values (Lucas, 2011).
Public speaking is one of the most under rated skills learned in school, yet is one of the most valuable. The way you communicate shows a lot about you, and can influence other’s opinions of you. In every profession communicatiis important. Good communication skills, no matter what you plan to do in life, will help you out greatly and improve your chances against a harsh job market. I am majoring in Business Administration and Law, and communication is one of the biggest parts of business and law, yet communication is hardly ever taught in business classes for my major. I think that a communications class like public speaking, for example, should be not just for a college class, but taught in high school and middle school as well. I believe several classes would allow anyone to become an expert speaking. The only way to fully learn public speaking is to get up in front of people and talk to them. One can not learn public speaking from a book.
For as long as I can remember, public speaking has always been one of my greatest weaknesses. Whether it’s a simple in-class presentation or a speech in front of an auditorium filled with people, I can barely get my words out from the anxiety and stress. I’ve always admired those who seem to be able to just flow through their speeches without as much as a hint of nerves. The reason I decided to write my paper on this specific topic was to learn about different tips that people have for public speaking.

Before coming United States, I spent around 18 years going to school in China. I can say, in China, we do not or at least seldom do public speaking. What we do is mostly sitting down as listeners and hearing others do their presentation. In short, we, normal Chinese students, do not have the opportunity to give a speech. However, I guess I am one of the lucky people. I was selected as the compere for many big events. Even I was not giving an entire speech, I still had the chance of standing in front of many audience.
