Speech Delivery The delivery of my speech portrays a sense of calmness and seriousness. I used this style of speaking to show the importance of my subject, lack of organ donors. Throughout the presentation I used note cards as a guide and frequently made eye contact with my audience. When giving facts that I felt were important I made sure to look at the camera to show there significance. I also added my input into some of the facts to try and convince my listeners to become organ donors The presentation of this speech improved greatly from my informative speech regarding the benefits of exercise. When presenting my first speech I used no emotion in my voice and read most of it from a script. I also spoke quickly, which made my speech …show more content…
In my speech I fallowed this criteria and made each step clear to my audience. The Monroe’s Motivated Sequence starts at the attention stage also known as the introduction. In my particular speech I directed my audience’s attention toward the topic of organ donors by starting my speech with facts regarding the amount of people that receive an organ transplant each day and also how many people die waiting each day. I started this way because it demonstrated to my audience the seriousness of this topic. After fully introducing the topic I then moved to the body of my speech. There are three stages in the body according Monroe’s Motivated Sequence, the need stage, satisfaction stage, and visualization stage. The need stage consisted of more facts regarding the lack of organ donors. My purpose here was to explain to the audience why they needed to become an organ donor. I stated “there are more than enough people on the waiting list to fill two large football stadiums.” This statement was meant to put the number of people waiting for an organ transplant in perspective for my audience. After finishing the other two stages I moved on to the action stage or conclusion. Now I told them exactly what I wanted them to do, give the greatest gift you can give, become an organ donor. I also restated the website that they could register to become an organ donor, donatelifeflorida.com. My speech fallowed the five steps of Monroe’s Motivated Sequence
I choose the ted talk of journalist Jon Ronson: Strange answers to the psychopath test. His speech had various strong points and personal experiences. He uses various strategies to hook his audience and get his point out. He engages with the audience and gets them to listen he keeps them engaged by having humor and telling stories. He uses statistics to infom the audience and even tries to calculate how many psychopaths there is in the audience. He has verbal and nonverbal cues that connect is main points.
...irmative and presented my ideas based on facts and history. I am mainly a logos type of speaker using very little pathos appeal, only using pathos based on the audience I am presenting to. James Farmer used his pathos appeal to win over the crowd based on his experiences and what was happening at the time to blacks.
What is the way to persuade an audience? By persuading an audience, one should know how to use rhetorical strategies. Therefore, rhetoric is a technique in what everyone uses, without noticing, but it’s described as an art that let’s us deliver messages and try to communicate effectively with the audience in order to persuade them. A video, called “3 Ways to Speak English”, where a young woman presents her poem in being “Trilingual orator” giving her reasons and the definition of being articulate. Not only she speaks about it,but delivers a message to her audience to be articulate.
While analyzing the speech, I notice how he isn’t shaky from nervousness or his voice’s pitch getting higher which makes him confident, is already prepared of what he wants to talk about, and therefore does not cause any distractions towards the audience. His voice tone is at his natural state as I assume as it calm, not quick to rush words out, and engages the audience by not bringing
I think I did better in the bodily action criteria compared to my last speech. I was not moving awkward anymore unlike my first speech and I think it is because I am less nervous. My goals to maintain success is to not overthink what I should do while I am delivering my speech and to focus more on what I will be saying and eye contact.
While watching my video I did notice that I was able to understand and clearly know what the main point was. I spoke in a clear and a tone loud enough for everyone to hear. The speech was organized very well, so one idea or thought flowed to the next. I don’t think I need to change anything in regards to my central idea being clear. I was satisfied with that part of the speech.
Furthermore, my presentation has allowed me to self-evaluate myself and has helped me understand my strengths and
The last rule was Pathos which was the emotional appeal of your speech. Connecting with your listeners on
Over the recent four months in Communication 1402 class, I have addressed three formal speechs and completed a number of chapters in the corresponding textbook “Communication Works”. This course of Communication aims to provide general information what public speaking is and how to address a public speaking. Recalling back the experience during the processes of completing the Speech to Imform, Speech to Persuade, and Group Presentation, I will draw a conclusion about this course and these three presentations in five aspects, comprising my previous perception of public speaking before this course; learning from the Speech to Inform; the goal and evaluation of Speech to Persuade; learning from the Group Presentation; the most important thing learned from this course.
Joseph adapted his training techniques into a 7-minutes, highly effective program able to generate satisfactory results in any context, regardless of the speaker’s innate leadership or public speaking skills. The overall theme in Mathew Abrahams speech is to present your ideas to a crowd in a clear authentic manner. His tips and techniques can help you deliver your message in a more effective approach and how to become a compelling speaker. He clarifies that when presenting, it should be conversational because, an audience always remembers the message this way. An outline is practical, and prepares the speaking to deliver effectively and optimistically. Whereas, reading of a manuscript would distance you from the viewers. This creates an increase in performance anxiety for the speaker.
To keep the ideas fresh in the audience’s mind, Dr. Freese recapped her main points during her conclusion. The most appealing element of the speaker’s delivery was her tone and inflection. The most distracting element of her delivery was her rate of speech. She tended to speak a little faster during certain parts of her speech which made it a bit hard to understand her.
I have also learned about different types of audiences and speeches including persuasive, informative, entertaining and delivering special occasion speeches. It came to my attention that whenever I was making these presentations or speeches, I needed to do so with confidence, consistence and practice before the actual presentation and completely eliminate the element of panic. It was also clear that capturing the attention of the audience and engaging them in the whole process, it was necessary to have a very strong introduction and also try and use visuals to deliver the message. It was therefore vital to respect each person’s diversity and cultural values (Lucas, 2011).
