As John Dewey once said, “Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself”. Currently, I am receiving my education from Cactus Shadows High School and I still have an adequate amount of learning to do. The thought has crossed my mind to jump-start my college education by enrolling into the Puma College Connection Program. Early College is an excellent program and I will show how I will benefit from the program, what my strengths and weakness are, and what my future goals are. Furthermore, to attend a university, it is becoming more expensive to receive a degree of your choice. Parents are expected to save their money from the moment their child is born, although, they might not have that privilege to save their earnings. One way I could benefit from the program is by saving money on tuition. My sister is currently attending college and by the time I graduate high school, my parents would like to save as much money as possible. By completing about thirty college credits, my tuition overall reduces. Another way I could benefit from Early College is by attending college classes. It will help me later on in my education and it will prepare me for university level work. …show more content…
One of my greatest strengths pertaining to education is my ability to complete my work in a timely matter. I only turned in late work at least two times in my high school career. Another strength I possess is being a respectful, erudite student. I can understand the lessons quickly and listen to my teacher in a considerate manner. Although one can discuss their strengths indefinitely, weaknesses must be told to understand a person. One of my main shortcomings is public speaking. I find it hard to present myself in front of a large group of people. Once I begin to know my peers, it is easier for me to speak in front of them during
First, attending college effects financial awareness. College needs to reduce the cost of their tuition to help students that are struggling financially. The benefit of lowering college tuition fees including the fact that higher education is often a standard job requirement in many fields, but also that lower tuition costs increases the accessibility of education, which in turn creates social mobility that is often beneficial to the economy. Freeman Hrabowski, President of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County read an article by New York Times called “College is for Suckers.” He mentions that the article “echoes an increasingly common refrain that college is too expensive, that students are taking unmanageable debt.” (Hrabowski 259). even though Freeman states that there are college prep
“They laugh at me because I’m different; I laugh at them because they’re all the same” Kurt Cobain once said. However, would it be a good choice to be different and accept going to college in an earlier age instead of attending to a normal high school? Of course this has been greatly disputed; due to the fact that many students have a hard time deciding which option is more convenient and would actually lead them to accomplish their goals. Even though there are many early college schools that would offer an Associate’s degree without having to pay anything, there is people that would prefer to pay their career by themselves and have a normal life as most high scholars do without having to worry that much. Of course that going earlier to college would be challenging but it can bring students better opportunities in life, and also help them mature more rapidly so they could be able to understand what life is in reality.
Graduating early is when you graduate before you are suppose to. It was never common because no one ever seemed to think about it or want to put in the work to do it. For a long time high school was defined as the best time of your life. Everyone who spoke to you always said when you left you would miss it. No one really wanted to graduate early for that reason. People wanted to cherish the time they had in high school because they knew they only got to go through it once. It was a big idea to live up to. Senior year has this belief attached to it. It means a lot to people because it is their last year of high school and it was upsetting to know that you’d be leaving the people you have spent the last four years with. People thought you had to have as much fun as possible in high school and do all kinds of crazy things before you turned 18: when you would be considered and punished as an adult. Now those times have changed. High school is not looked upon as the best times of your life anymore. It is looked upon in almost a negative way. High school has changed a lot and it is not very enjoyable now. There are lots of reasons why someone would want to graduate early. For instance, maybe the student was bullied, maybe the student decided they wanted to move on and go to college, maybe the student got sick of their home life and wanted to move forward, or like me, maybe the student has their future waiting for them and all they need is to graduate high school so they could begin it.
Students may think it’s unfair for some to go to college early and others stay behind, but this could actually separate the students who put in the work and effort to have this opportunity. If able, students should be able to start their lives early at a younger age because it brings about a greater experience. Starting their lives younger could be a great thing to go ahead and make their mistakes that every college student usually
Mario Andretti once said, “Desire is the key to motivation, but it's determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of your goal - a commitment to excellence - that will enable you to attain the success you seek.” Andretti’s words are as true today as when he spoke them. Everyday should be a continuous journey to get to your goal. Starting off with the right step is a major component. Therefore, I chose to apply to Stanly Early College High. I believe that I have the ability to work up to Stanly Early College standards. Determination, dedication, and desire are all qualities that I have.
Many are expecting college to be expensive. They worry about how much they can afford and having to make payment arrangements. Some go as far as to think only rich people can afford to go to college. There is a thought that you have to have good credit to get a loan that takes forever to pay back. Many are not aware of the programs that are o...

There have been times when I questioned what my talents were, and how to utilize them to best of my abilities. I have been blessed with a speech impediment. Some people asked how it is a blessing, the usual response is because knowing what your disadvantage is to a common person can help you become better. When I was high school it was obvious to my teachers and peers that I had a speech impediment, but yet the school head officials were constantly asking me to speak here and there. If a city or state board member came to the school, I was one the five students they would pull out of class to speak with them. I would classify public speaking as a talent and skill, since in nursing you ...
As stated earlier, the cost of college is too high and it needs to be reduced to a more reasonable amount. It is expected that young adults in this day in age would want to go to college or another post-secondary education school to receive higher learning and to somewhat better their lives. While this is true ...
In current times, children are told from a young age that college is imperative to getting a good, stable job. However, this is not always true. Therefore, it cannot be determined if college is always the best choice. Because each person is different and learns in a way unique to themselves, it’s up to each individual to decide whether or not they think they need further education based upon their goals, aspirations, and desires in life. There are many benefits to attending a college or university. For example, college graduates earn about $17,500 more each year than high school graduates. College degrees also give you more options. Not only do you have many career options after obtaining your degree, you also have differing options of how you acquire your degree. Colleges and universities have created many diverse programs, offering traditional classes, online classes, semi-online classes, and night and weekend classes. One of the biggest benefits of attending college is the real world experience you gain from being there and living partially on your own. For most people, college is a time where you can gain experience living with new responsibilities that you don’t have at home, without the pressure of having to pay bills on time
Throughout the lives of individuals, everyone imagines the dream job or the job that is going to make the most money. Most of these jobs need to make it so a higher education like college is needed to be able to even make it in the field. College is not by any means cheap, depending on what college is chosen, yes it can be less money but it is still thousands of dollars by the time the degree is earned. Many people that want to go to college cannot afford it, therefore cannot reach the dream job. In order to make college accessible to those who are truly deserving, incentive programs such as offering financial stipends which can be earned through academic success in high school need to be offered.
Students differ in shape, size, color, and age. From kindergarten to college, many students are expected to follow a linear educational path regardless of life obstacles and other hindrances. Unfortunately, judgmental and oppressive eyes often intercept any deviation from this path. Lailah Gifty Akita once said, “You are never old to begin self-seeking.” A college education immediately after high school is not the correct path for everyone, as adult students have taken a rise in the collegiate atmosphere. This increase has intrinsically changed career options locally and globally.
“The first is that they could be the nation’s most powerful tools to improve the opportunities of less privileged Americans, giving them a shot at harnessing a fast –changing job market and building a more equitable, inclusive society for all of us” said Porter (page1). Community college make students important to the society because, they can go to school, work and be available for their family at the same time. Students can save thousands of dollars while attending community college and work. Also it easy for students with per-term jobs to pay for their tuition fees with the help of payment plan. For example, I came to the United States five years ago and got a part term job. I started school at Truman College and I was told by my advisor that I can transfer to a four year college in next two years. Later my advisor explained to me about four years college tuition fees which I wasn’t a citizen then. Then I asked my advisor what if I stay more years at Truman to graduate since I work and stay with my family. Then my advisor told me it a good idea since I work and at the same time I can afford to pay for my classes. This are the benefit a student can benefit from going to community college. Community college makes life easy for students to study and take care of other responsibilities.
Knowing what I can do well is just important as knowing what needs improvement. My strongest attributes are being able to perform under pressure and multitasking. This is necessary to sell products and perform services that benefit the customer. The value of getting the job done correctly and on time correlates to returning customers and repeat business. My competitive advantage over others in the same industry is the high level of service we offer. I don’t just push a product on a client. I listen to what they want and need, make suggestions for the best available solutions; and I also help them with cost savings and environmentally friendly alternatives. One weakness I have and need to work on is public speaking. As I grow in my career and move into managerial leader positions, I will have a lot more opportunities to give speeches. I plan to work on my public speaking skills by practicing and making incremental changes to constantly improve. It’s not a matter of being shy in front of a group. It’s more of a point to be well prepared for the occasion and motivated to do a good job. To stay prepared for opportunities and change, I plan on continuing my education in the business field, and learning as much as possible about my job. I will also need to stay up-to-date with current issues in my external and internal
