What is point-of-care testing :
The healthcare industry is in the midst of a transformative change. It is undergoing reform through initiatives that focus on improving patient outcomes, tying provider reimbursement to quality metrics (rather than traditional fee for services), adopting electronic patient records, and developing accountable care organizations. One of the major enablers of these changes is the proliferation of point-of-care (POC) technologies that offer the promise of improving outcomes and reducing costs through increased access to and use of diagnostic and monitoring solutions.
Point-of-care testing is medical diagnostic testing at or near the point of care—that is, at the time and place of patient care. This contrasts with the historical pattern in which testing was wholly or mostly confined to the medical laboratory,

In order to move away from the “silos” of care, many institutions are starting to trend towards primary patient centered and interdisciplinary care. Among these checkups, an emphasis should be made on checking for congenital heart defects, especially those who are hard to detect. This should be a priority because a baby with a CCHD could be at risk in the future. Furthermore, children who have a heart disease such as Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome are at greater risk. In these cases, early detection is key for eliminating this types of conditions. This way an appropriate treatment can be given at a younger age and a more permanent solution can be offered to eliminate the condition such as surgery. If the root of these types of diseases can be eliminated now, future generations can have a better healthy life quality and assurance.
This piece of work will be based on the pre-assessment process that patients go through on arrival to an endoscopy unit in which I was placed in during my second year studying Adult diploma Nursing. I will explore one patient’s holistic needs, identifying the priorities of care that the patient requires; I will then highlight a particular priority and give a rational behind this. During an admission I completed under the supervision of my mentor I was pre-assessing a 37 year old lady who had arrived to the unit for an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy. During the pre-assessment it was important that a holistic assessment is performed as every patient is an individual with unique care needs as the patient outline in this piece of work has learning disabilities it was imperative to identify any barriers with communication (Nursing standards 2006).
Today, many Americans face the struggle of the daily hustle and bustle, and at times can experience this pressure to rush even in their medical appointments. Conversely, the introduction of “patient-centered care” has been pushed immensely, to ensure that patients and families feel they get the medical attention they are seeking and paying for. Unlike years past, patient centered care places the focus on the patient, as opposed to the physician.1 The Institute of Medicine (IOM) separates patient centered care into eight dimensions, including respect, emotional support, coordination of care, involvement of the family, physical comfort, continuity and transition and access to care.2

Three examples of these advanced analytics concepts are predictive modeling and prescriptive analytics, and operations research. This healthcare study will define the innovations of language and patient rights in the “The Patient Care Partnership”(2003) that were inspired by the Patient Bill of Rights (1973). Historically, the patient Bill of Rights set an ethical and legal standard to protect the patient in the hospital setting, yet doctors, nurses, and hospital administrators had a difficult time identifying key aspects of patient interaction in the text. The American Hospital Association (APA) developed the “The Patient Care Partnership” top encourage clarity of patient rights through language and legality for patients that were severely, uneducated, or without the means to speak out for differing healthcare options. This new language helped to encourage a more ethical and informed consent by the patient and the healthcare institutions to ensure the proper treatment and care for the individual.
So a student can write an okay rough draft instead of a crap one. Does this really mean they are smarter or even better at writing than anyone else? In standardized testing, kids are asked to read, organize, write, edit, and revise a full length essay, in the space of 60 to 90 minutes. Although some say that standardized testing is a good measure of a student’s abilities, it isn't because it ignores individual strengths of ability and creativity, doesn't teach students anything, and nurtures the president of "teaching to the test". Standardized testing is meant to get an idea of a school, district, or state's overall learning development in its students.
Imagine a third grade girl about to take her first standardized test. She is nervous about the test because it is not a normal classroom test. Over the past month, her teacher has reviewed everything that she and her classmates have learned the entire year. As she looks around the room, she sees other nervous peers. Unfortunately, standardized tests have grown more frequent in schools at all levels, and “when future educational historians look back at the last few decades of U.S. public schooling, they will surely identify a system in which students’ scores on annual accountability tests became, almost relentlessly, the prominent determiner of a school’s success” (Popham 45).
There is hardly a student alive who can hear the words ‘standardized testing’ and not recoil in a mix of disgust and horror. Now a necessity for any student wanting to go to college, standardized testing is a process, through tests in math, reading, science, etc., of weeding out the weak and intellectually uninclined to choose the strongest gladiator of test-takers, of whom colleges will throw money at, or perhaps even select out of the many other gladiators of many other schools to go to their prestigious ivy-league school. This description is a fairly transparent presenter of my thoughts about standardized testing, but these are made more out of personal experience than factual evidence. After all, this system must exist for a reason. Is it good for schools?
Standardized tests were first brought into schools to evaluate students and keep schools and teachers accountable, but instead of helping, these tests only harm student development. These tests make teachers change the way they teach. For example, instead of enforcing creative and critical thinking, students now are taught in a superficial and generic way. Students are not receiving a broad education like they once were. The tests try to treat all students the same instead of focusing on how well they work, how they communicate with their peers, or what piques their interest.
