Work Philosophy To be a well-rounded employee, there are nine traits you must adhere to. These traits are numerous but can be broken down into three categories. The first three tell you how to be successful and easy-going; these traits provide the employee with the ability to be calm, productive, and goal-oriented. The second category of traits aims to assist in becoming a great co-worker and peer. These traits are mainly social. The last three traits are designed to keep an employee focused and productive. This makes them hard-working and driven. When looking to hire someone I believe these are the main traits to look for. To be a great employee, it is important to prioritize your work and manage your time well. Do not procrastinate on work, especially when they involve cross department participation. Employees have to be responsible for their mistakes. Great employees take personal responsibility for everything they do. To be a great employee, you must contribute positively to your company. Take initiatives, give suggestions, or even be the silent hero who solves challenges quietly. They work to help achieve greater goals for the company of their choosing. The American work ethic is something our country should be proud of. Since the days of George Washington Americans have worked hard for what they believe in, what they need, and what they want. It is our right as Americans to be able to work for these ideals. Without out a strong work ethic our country would crumble. From businessmen to politicians a strong work ethic is necessary to keep our country financially and politically stable.

In the book Outliers, and in the articles, “Meaningful Work”, “Do, Just, Do: A Journey to Meaningful, Satisfying work”, and “ You Wont Find Meaningful work Looking Outside Yourself”, The authors Malcolm Gladwell, Michael F. Steger, Lori Deschene, and Keven wood describe what the joy of meaningful is to them.Life is what you make of it and it’s and up to you to decide what you will get out of it. Some people may work eight hour shifts Monday through Friday miserable, exhausted, depressed, unhappy, and under a lot of pressure and stress from their jobs. Others may do the same, similar, or different jobs being comfortable, happy with life, and pleased with their job position. Your job should be one of the most important things to you because you are there on average forty hours a week and most of your time is spent there. It should be important that you enjoy what you do because it is practically your second home. Meaningful work is a job you enjoy doing, are compassionate about, never tired of, and do for the fulfillment of yourself , it is important to success because if one enjoys what they do opportunities in their career path will only expand.
Discussed below are different researchers’ arguments and explanations on how personality predicts employee performance. This essay will explore both negative and positive ways in which personality can predict the performance, as well as explaining what personality is. Past research has “demonstrated that personality constructs are associated with work performance, with some traits like conscientiousness predicting success around jobs. Other linked with specific occupations e.g. extraversion correlates with success in sales and management as well as training performance supporting”, (Barrick et al., 2002, 87: p.43).
I think my stongest qualities of those listed are grit, self awareness and integrity. It requires a certain amount of grit to get up in the morning and don a yellow safety vest to stand in the school carpool lane and make sure that students unload and get to school safely. Day after day I say the same things “move to the safety lane”, “stop running”, “slow down”. The next day I get up and I do and say the same things because to be derelict in that duty means someone might get hurt. True grit is required to spend hours planning a lesson only to have the concept completely miss it's target.
The first characteristic, a positive attitude, is important because having the ability and enjoyment of working with other people in a team is a useful skill. A sincere liking and respect for other people is a wonderful asset. Being well liked will certainly help in working in teams or any other social situation. Humor and warmth are effective in order to be a good team member. A follower who focuses on positive thoughts by filtering out negative ones is on the trail of leadership. President Dwight D. Eisenhower often said, “No pessimist ever won a battle.” People who have a positive outlook on both life and specific situations tend to achieve their goals more often. The choice and determination to maintain an event-tempered disposition come what may; hence the ability to smile in the face of adversity and make things a little brighter for everyone.
Be prepared to stand up for employees who have performed admirably well while being fair, firm, concerned, and sincere. When possible, criticize in private and praise in public. Remember that there will always be some people who will vigorously oppose your views. Do not compromise yourself to try to obtain everyone's support. 7.
Communication goes both ways in that listening is as important as speaking. 2Vision: is important in that leadership knows the direction they want the team to go and how to get them there. 3Confident/Poise: confidence is contagious which draws in people. 4Empathy: exudes a genuine concern, guiding employees through challenges. 5“Decisiveness: there times when tough decisions must be made. This process requires firmness, authority and finality that will not please everyone. They also know when not to act unilaterally but instead foster collaborative decision making [Economy, P. (2014)].” 6Accountability: is taking on responsibility for everyone 's performance, including their own. It also includes acknowledging team members responsible in success, not taking the credit as the lead. 7Transparency: This trait helps eliminate the surprise factor employees want a stable environment, they want to be a part of a culture that puts forth the truth. 8Mentorship: This trait is investing time and energy building self-reliance, independence and growth. It is being open to nurture and develop your team… developing today’s talent into tomorrow’s leaders. 10Fairness: This trait levels the playing field treating your team in a consistent, impartial, objective fashion. 1) Motivate People. When we have to go to work, it’s nice to have someone who is a supervisor or manager keep you motivated on doing your best. When you do your best, it shows in your attitude and work performance. The difference between being motivated at work to do your best and not being motivated is no matter how much we like or hate our jobs we do them because we are paid, or the benefits that are attached to it. So why not have someone there who is going to support you on doing your best so it becomes more than just a paycheck, then not only get the reward of the paycheck but also the recognition for a job well done.
In society, most people will work for many different reasons. Some will work based on the needs of money to survive, some require money to feed their love ones, and some just need money for their own leisure. In life, most people work just to stay busy, and even work until it’s time for them to retire. When applying for a job, the employer will ask for a résumé or a job application. When the information is given, it contains a work history which is a detailed report of all the jobs that a person has held, including company name, job title, and dates of employment. Companies typically required that applicants must provide their work history when applying for a job. A person’s work history is used by prospective employers to verify the information that a person has provided and to be contacted by pervious employers for background checks.
The Catholic Social Teaching principle of work and workers is countercultural, especially within today’s society. The ideologies that this principle is based on, work against societal norms that have allowed employers to neglect their workers and consumers to judge them unfairly. Instead of the human dignity of these workers being respected and upheld in the workplace, where they spend a majority of their time, it is actively disregarded for a larger profit. The principle of work and workers expresses the importance of the health and rights of workers, which should be the top-priority of employers. However, with society’s obsession with personal gain, these basic needs are often compromised for a larger profit.

Also being able to quickly get to the core issues will help me when dealing with my coworkers. Some of the traits that might hinder work place relationships would be the tendency to criticize and critique others instead of praising them for what they are doing right. Another would be not listening to the ideas or opinions of my coworkers, I tend to get wrapped up in what I think will or is the best and forget to hear what those around me have to say.
