The list is long, but the big picture is there are people around this world or in a society that have a direct and indirect effect on behavior patterns and administration of life. Mentors, life coach, counselor are a few individuals with natural leadership skills, and with this ability can shore up the weakness or bring out the best in people to do more. This same concept can be very effective in any organization, especially in law enforcement which traditionally has a quasi-military organizational structure (Peak, 2016, pg. 25).

The first step in becoming a leader is to learn how to follow, by respecting those around, accepting the responsibilities when things go wrong, praising people when they do something right. Not every person is born a leader and it is something that can be learned or taught to those who will come after. Law Enforcement Officials are in a leadership position, having the basic skills such as technical skill, human skill, and conceptual skill are great influencers on the job. The "Ten Commandments" are a set of rules for execute leaders in law enforcement that are vital to be a successful leader (Peak, 2016, pg. 110).

1. Practice what you preach. You must lead by example, remembering that actions speak louder than words. A leader must be a person of morality, integrity, and honor.
2. A day's pay for a day-and-a-half of work. A leader must put in long hours to accomplish all that needs to be done, at the expense of personal freedom. Develop a positive image. The leader is also responsible for the morale of the employees; although law enforcement can be filled with bad news, disappointment, and failures, the leader must work to accentuate the positive. Recognition of employees' contributions and valiant actions is one way to do so, with awards ceremonies, memorandums, and so forth.
5. Remain committed. Leaders must be committed to implementing the agency's goals, mission, and values; this might mean taking risks, which can have its dangers. Failure must be faced immediately, and one must learn from mistakes. The leader can normally weather the storm by taking responsibility and being responsive.
6. Be respectful. Be prepared to stand up for employees who have performed admirably well while being fair, firm, concerned, and sincere. When possible, criticize in private and praise in public. Remember that there will always be some people who will vigorously oppose your views. Do not compromise yourself to try to obtain everyone's support.

One may wonder exactly what it is that qualities a strong leader possesses. A strong leader is determined, and strong willed. They must be of good judgment, and without bias. They cannot easily be persuaded, and they are firm, yet at the same time, a good lead must also empathize with his subordinates, and have the best interest at heart for said subordinates, at all times. However, with that being said, a good leader cannot be afraid to discipline his subordinates when necessary. Police leadership is based from an autocratic style which is founded on integrity and courage, embracing teamwork, involvement and shared leadership (Cordner & Scarborough, 2010). This style of leadership works well in an emergency situation in which rapid decision making and strict control is needed. In today’s ever changing business field, it is more important than ever that great managers are also exceptional leaders. While being a leader may not be easy, it is something that all managers need to strive to achieve. Through constant education and practice every manager can sharpen their leadership skills. Through the reading and the Leadership Assessment there are five leadership principles that are most important to todays leaders including; creating a sense of responsibility, education, ability to lead by example, giving praise where it is do, and empathy.
