Another factor that is changing the crime scene in the USA is the September 11th attack on the country by terrorists. This showed that the country can be vulnerable to terrorist attacks. To have the ability to combat the emerging crime and terrorist threats the police department needed transformation leadership across all levels. A strong police leadership is key in improving police performance and reducing crime and the fear of crime among the public. To achieve transformation leadership, there is need to improve training on leadership and professionalism (Kingshott. 2016). Transformation leaders inspire dedication in their followers. Police departments have come under heavy criticism in the last few years because of increasing crime rates and the perception that lack of leadership is the cause of all these problems. Various leadership models have been applied to police leadership with great success (Allen & Sawhney. 2010). Various police departments are now being led by dedicated transformation leaders across various levels. These transformation leaders are improving efficiency in police departments. The study also highlights the right kind of leadership required to increase performance in the police departments across the nation. By emphasizing on leadership, the study wants to focus on how leadership in the police force brings out increased performance across all levels. Leadership in the police force is only effective when it has an impact on the subordinated and boosts their morale and motivation in their work.
