How many times have you looked at your calendar and experienced that sinking feeling when you realize it's time for your annual Well Woman Exam? And how relieved are you when it's all over and your practitioner has said your results are fine? That means you're in good health, right? But what about your low energy? And all those extra pounds you've gained over the past few months? Maybe it's a thyroid problem - hasn't your Mom got that? And you don't want another trip to your health care provider just because you have a few aches and pains or worries about your family health history. So let's just wait and see what happens and deal with these issues as, and when, they present a serious problem.
Stop right there!
A Well Woman Exam should be exactly what the name suggests. Whether you are having your very first Well Woman exam or your 30th, it should be an opportunity to ask any questions about issues which may be causing you concern, from fertility to cancer signs to inherited disorders. It should provide you with an annual report on your overall state of health, and not just give the "ok" to your breasts and reproductive organs.
All too often, a Well Woman Exam only includes manual breast exam, a Pap test and a pelvic exam. Typically, the patient's vitals (blood pressure, weight, temperature etc) will be checked and some practitioners may also order a mammogram. Those tests all provide very worthwhile data but how complete is the typical Well Woman Exam in presenting the true picture of a woman's overall health?

In conclusion, it can been seen that newborn examination play an important part is assessing the neonates well-being, and that midwives need to be equipped with the necessary skills to conduct such examinations and encouraged and involve the mothers or family members in the examinations as well as planning for the care of the newborns.
The Smear Campaign launched on 10/03/2014 by NHS Greater Glasgow is aimed at women aged 20 – 35 in this region. The campaign aims to diminish the barriers which are stopping women from attending their routine cervical screenings. It is backed by 2 famous Scottish radio DJ’s, Radio Clyde’s Knoxy and Suzie McGuire, and they are trying to promote the benefits of attending these screenings to banish the myths that they are painful and embarrassing. According to Emilia Crighton, Consultant in Public Health Medicine, “New research shows that the main barriers stopping women from attending cervical screening (smear test) are fear, embarrassment and pain.” (http://www.nhsggc.org.uk/content/default.asp?page=s1192_3&newsid=17764&back=home). They encourage women to watch their online video which shares the story of a woman who attended her routine cervical screening and was found to have early cancerous cells on her cervix. This smear test helped detect these cells and the 3 videos can be seen online via Youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z6QEdma5SDw, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Pe-Njiiv38&list=PLmuRxztsS0Nxxx-2_til-mHfG20topFyt, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XfO9bWNJHFA&list=PLmuRxztsS0Nxxx-2_til-mHfG20topFyt. These videos use humour as well as factual information to promote the benefits of attending regular smear tests, which is available for anyone to watch who has an internet connection. This campaign is widely promoted through the use of social media, these videos are displayed on YouTube and this campaign has been advertised on the internet and in various news articles.
They must assess the needs of the woman to determine and provide a care as instructed, this can be before conception and then throughout the antenatal and postnatal period. The focus when looking after women is to provide holistic care and making sure it's done with compassion and love. This includes respecting the women's individual choices and needs in a variety of different situations. According to NMC (2008) guidelines, midwives must treat people with care, compassion, dignity, respect and must be impartial. These competencies and proficiencies are assured through pre- and post-registration education. Being insightful when communicating and having an active listening skills provides the whole family with the feeling of being valued and considered. This includes being interested and being able to respond appropriately to establish productive and professional relationships with the women and their families. Midwives need to have the ability to be tactful, but also being able to exert influence through respect and credibility. Giving out clear and respectful messages that can be understood by women and also being able to recognise non-verbal cues and behaviours of family members is necessary (Mayes, 2011 and Nicholls L, Webb C. 2006). Midwives are also still accountable for their actions regardless of what happened, even when delegating tasks to other members of staff. The use of effective communication is
Many people think if they do not feel any lumps in their breasts there is nothing to worry about. That is not always the case. “Mammography remains the “golden standard” screening method for women…and reliably identifies malignant tumors, especially those that are too small to feel (“Advances in breast imaging”). “Checking one’s own breasts for lumps or other unusual changes is called a breast self-exam, or BSE. This type of exam cannot replace regular screening mammograms or clinical breast exams. In clinical trials, BSE alone was not found to help reduce the number of deaths from breast cancer (cancer.gov)”. Mammograms are necessary because performing a self-exam does not always find what is there. Although self-breast exams have been known to catch lumps in the breast, mammograms have found more due to the fact that they can detect very small cancer much sooner than self-breast exams can. Also not very many people know how to correctly administer a self-breast exam. It is recommended that if you do perform self-exams you should also get routine mammograms. If you rely solely on self-exams, it may be too la...
The uncertain nature of chronic illness takes many forms, but all are long-term and cannot be cured. The nature of chronic illness raises hesitation. It can disturb anyone, irrespective of demographics or traditions. It fluctuates lives and generates various inquiries for the patient. Chronic illness few clear features involve: long-lasting; can be managed but not cured; impacts quality of life; and contribute to stress. Chronic illnesses can be enigmatic. They often take considerable time to identify, they are imperceptible and often carry a stigma because there is little sympathetic or social support. Many patients receive inconsistent diagnoses at first and treatments deviate on an individual level. Nevertheless, some circumstances require
Although she proceeds to say, basically, that there are flaws within the testing of medicine, and that 80% of the medicine withdrawn from the market are due to side-effects on women (1:30). The way she boldly challenges the medicinal world so matter-of-factly provoked me, as I’m sure many others who listened, to wonder what authority she had to make these accusations. So in a synopsis of what her speech would sequentially touch on, she proceeds to frankly state, “I am an Emergency Medicine Doctor,” which instantly reconciles any doubts, and her authority on the subject at hand is also immediately recognized. She reveals that medical testing is used on male subjects and male cells, largely due to the homogeneous traits of men, whereas women’s hormones fluctuate too much to provide stable results
Have you ever had those moments where you are feeling unmotivated or zero energy to workout? I will be the first to tell you I have had these moments. Being involved in the fitness world, I love every aspect of fitness. For the past 5 years, I was working out 5 days a week and had my ups and downs with results. I am guilty of it, I would pick up a workout magazine and try out this crazy workout and just destroy my body. Sure, I saw some results but I was becoming more and more tired throughout the day. On top of that, I was only getting 5 hours of sleep and not eating appropriately to refuel my body. I know stupid right? I am human and I am not perfect!
...lar checkup especially for the older people. A monthly routine checkup of your cholesterol level, blood pressure, heart rate, and blood sugar level could be tested. These checkups will help us to decide our further life choices later on.
So, why don't gynecologists have contests to make it at least interesting? I mean, while you're lying there, legs splayed to the world, why not move things along with a touch of frivolity? Count-the-Holes-In-The-Ceiling-Tiles or Count-How-Many-Miles-'Til-He-Reaches-China or even How-Many-Organs-Will-Still-Be-Intact? The act of submitting oneself to the humiliation of inspection has, since the first cavewoman squatted in childbirth, loomed in the female consciousness as a unifying force likely to explode in repressed rage. Women have been prodded, probed, peered at, pared down, palpated, pregnant, penetrated and pawed since the dawn of civilization. From the information I have gathered over my years of blooming womanhood, the paradigm should be shifting as least as much as breasts to gravity.
They also can help find problems early, when your chances for treatment and cure are better. By getting the right health services, screenings, and treatments, you are taking steps that help your chances for living a longer, healthier life. Your age, health and family history, lifestyle choices (i.e. what you eat, how active you are, whether you smoke), and other important factors impact what and how often you need health care (CDC). As a volunteer at Community Health Chicago for almost two years, I have noticed that patients who control diabetes and blood pressure are more likely to have a life without limitations. For example, my mother has been living with diabetes for ten years, needs to visit the doctor every three months for follow up, takes her medications, takes her laboratory test before a doctor 's visit. Also, she tests her blood sugar at home to keep tracking the blood glucose levels. She was able to prevent her diabetes from getting worse because she always visits the doctor for checking
What is life skill? Well, life skills are skills that prepare an individual to live independently and productively within society. Life skills include skills that can empower the children to adapt to challenges and deal with their life in a gainful manner.
It’s absolutely normal to feel powerless when you encounter stress. But to think that there’s nothing you can do about it is absolutely not normal. You can avoid things from getting out of control by taking charge of your thoughts, emotions, lifestyle, and your ways of facing certain life situations.
I am a person who rarely go to the doctor once in four to five months until someone push me to go. I hate going to the doctor because I do not like to. I barely get sick, which is why I am very blessed for not being sick. It is hard to remember when was the last time I got sick. My parents get mad at me because I do not get a checkup with my doctor. I have free medication, but I do not take the opportunity. The people’s problem is that when they get something free then, they do not value the free stuffs, when they are gone, they start regretting it and I am one of them. One of the reasons why I do not go to the doctor is because I always feel good. Even if I get sick still I do not go to the doctor because I feel like I will get well in one day. Third reason is a relationship with the doctor. It is very important to be free with my doctor. The problem is I do not feel free with stranger that easily. Trust is a very huge thing in a relationship. I am not even that free with my family then, how will it happen with the doctor. Even if I try I can never be that free with my doctor. I may not know that I have a disease or not until I go to the doctor. I do not feel sick, which is why I do not need to go to the doctor. This is a bad habit that cannot be
