Topic: Pit bulls banned?
Persuasive Speech Outline:
Introduction
Should Pit bulls be banned as pets? Pit bulls have been seen as dangerous dogs in the media for many years causing localities to ban pit bulls from their city limits. But the question is should these dogs be banned? Are pit bulls more dangerous than any other dogs? Looking at Statistics, 284 Americans have suffered death due to dog bite injuries, but is that enough information to ban these animals?

(main point #1)
First off, what is a pit bull? Many don't know that pit bull is not actually a breed of dog. But it is a term to describe different types of dogs for instance: The English Bull Terrier and the American Pit Bull Terrier, etc. As people often say “pit bull type dog” this is a negative context that blames pit bulls for another dog’s bad behavior.

There are many false information about pit bulls, as people have several myths about their behaviors.
A myth commonly known is that a pit bull has a locking jaw, therefore cannot let go once they bite. The truth is that they actually have the same anatomical features as other dogs so their jaws do not lock. Another myth commonly known is that rescuing a pitbull from a shelter is extremely dangerous because of the unknown information of the digs background. That is false, as all responsible shelters put any dog through stringent temperament testing, if the dog does not pass then it doe not go out for adoption.

Many people do not know the fact about Pit bulls as they base their information on stereotypes. It is very important to stay informed and know about the fact on pit bulls. As pit bulls are not responsible for the largest number of fatal dog attacks, they do not inflict the most bites, as they also pass temperament testing at a higher rate than other dogs. It is very hard to find accurate statistics on pit bull attacks as there are never clear information.
Conclusion To recap, Pit bulls are dogs being accused for severe behavior as many want to ban them from being pets. These accusations are not very clear as most people accuse them based of stereotypes and myths that are not true. Personally I believe that Pit bulls are just like any other dog, as it depends on its owners’ for example if it’s a disreputable owner one will have no assurance of the dog’s behavior. I believe one should look pass the stereotypes and start acknowledging the truth about these animals.
The reason why Pit Bulls are aggressive is because it’s their nature and that’s the way they’re born. Everyone that is afraid of Pit Bulls says it’s the dog's fault and that it's their nature to fight and kill, but honestly it’s the owners fault for making them that way. “‘Though Pit Bulls have strong jaws and, like most dogs will hold onto their prey after biting it. There is no evidence that a Pit Bulls jaw are anatomically different from those of other breeds’”(Lallanilla). They are more likely than any other breeds to grab a hold of something and shake it. The reason why
Pit bulls, like any other dog, grow into their temperament. The way the dog is raised rounds out their character and general temperament. According to the “American Temperament Test Society: Pit bulls pass temperament tests 84.1% of the time, which ranks them slightly better than golden retrievers (83.8%) and cocker spaniels (81.7%), and well above miniature schnauzers (78.6%),” (The Biting Truth). Myths have generated atrocious attitudes towards this breed for years. The nature of the dog to be a protector to children and the bulky build of pit bulls makes them a very easy breed to target. These opinions ...
Many people associate a negative connotation with the dog breed “pit bull.” These dogs are thought to be dangerous and problematic. However, much of this can be attributed to the mass amounts of negative media attention that pit bull breeds receive as opposed to other breeds of dogs that can be just as dangerous. For example, The National Canine Research Council did a four-day study on dog-bite repo...
To begin with, pit bulls, like all other dogs, have a tendency to bite. According to the ASPCA, if a Pitbull is socialized to both people and other dogs, they are less likely to be aggressive. Just like people, pit bulls need to know how interact with other living things. If a Pitbull is chained outside and never
One reason people are so frightened of pitbulls is for their roles in street gangs. They are often used as what law enforcement has begun to deem, Are all pit bulls subjected to the life of gangs or forced into a fighting ring? No, but it is the dogs that are and have become violent because of their mistreatment that get in the media which leads to the public fearing all pit bulls.
Another reason many critics fear the pit bull is their belief that the breed has locking jaws; however, defenders of the pit bull breed dismiss the claim that these dogs lock their jaws onto their victims but do admit tha...
GENERAL PURPOSE: To persuade the audience that pit bulls are nice loving dogs. SPECIFIC PURPOSE: To persuade the audience that pit bulls are not naturally dangerous. CENTRAL IDEA: Pit bulls are just like any other dog. It depends on how a pit bull or any other breed of dog is nurtured to determine the characteristics of the dog.
Pit Bulls are without a doubt my favorite dog, I adore them. Pit Bulls are very well tempered, loyal, and resilient animals. Bred for big game hunting, Pit Bulls are strong, fierce animals and people who have the wrong intentions for ownership should never own them. I am a strong believer that a potential pet owner should do lots of research before getting any type of animal, without exception. Owners should do as much research before getting a dog as they do in planning for a new home or any other new family member. One of the main things to really think about and understand is your intentions for your selection of an animal with the breeding of the Pit Bull. If you choose a dog with the wrong intentions, specifically a Pit Bull, you will get a dog that behaves aggressively and is dangerous. This owner behavior is what has caused the current plight of the Pit Bull today, where laws have been passed in thirteen states and hundreds of municipalities, as well as every U. S. Military base, banning the ownership of the breed and forcing shelters to euphonize Pit Bulls within 24 hours. These laws are unjust and cruel, and victimize the breed based on the owners’ behavior. I also argue that the blame for the epidemic proportions that the laws have reached is 100% the fault of owners who purposely acquired the Pit Bull with the intention to abuse and fight the dogs, and that these owners are the ones who should be punished, not the dogs. (Davis)
Even though pit bulls are the majority of dog attacks anybody hears about, they are loyal and caring dogs. All they want is the love and approval of their owners. They will do anything that they are told to do. Their strength, stamina, and speed fuel the passion they have for their owners. Pit bulls are not vicious by nature; they are good guard dogs fueled by the love for their family; and, they are definitely loyal friends. They have a lower temperament than many other well-known breeds; therefore, they are not vicious by nature at all. They are very strong guard dogs. Pit bulls are known to be a scary breed, so people stay away from them. They have an amazing amount of speed and stamina that they can use to chase predators away, too. Pit bulls are the best friends anyone could ask for. They are loyal and loving creatures that just want to please their family. They are good dogs to train to be around children. If the children are a part of the dog’s family, then the dog will protect the child at all costs. Pit bulls are a good breed to have as a family
It is the bad owners that give the pit bull a bad name. Contrary to that popular belief, dangerous animal behavior is the function of inherently dangerous dog owners, not inherently dangerous dogs. One fact that supports this is that pit bulls are the dogs most often shot during drug raids(TELLINGS v. Toledo). Besides the pit bulls that are owned by drug dealers for status symbols and protection, many pit bulls are owned by people that breed them for fighting. These poor dogs have a very slim chance of living a normal and happy life. This is not the fault of the dog, but the fault of the owners that should not have the dog, or should care for them better. The dogs that are forced to fight and are conditioned to defend themselves or die. When these dogs get loose, everything is a threat to them and they defend themselves in the name of survival. If golden retrievers were bred and raised with the sole purpose of fighting to the death, they would be just as dangerous as pit bulls. On the contrary, if all pit bulls were bred and treated as family dogs, they would have the same reputation as golden retrievers, if not better as the statistics found in the temperament test above
The media has been accused of covering more stories of pit bull attacks and covering less of other dog breed attacks. This accusation may be true according to what John Davidson of The Denver Post said which was that pit bull attacks seemed to garner more media attention than attacks by other kinds of dogs (Gomez). Media outlets shouldn’t sensationalize pit bulls in their news reports. It gives people false ideas of pit bulls and in turn hurts the breed. According to a compilation of news reports, pits were responsible for 52 of the 88 U.S. deaths from dog attacks from 2006 to 2008. Yet in controlled studies, pits have never been identified as "disproportionately dangerous,”(Tullius 54). Because of the media’s image of pit bulls shown in the news, many people are afraid of
Pit Bulls are not the aggressive breed that everybody makes them out to be. I can understand why there are some people who think that pit-bulls are just mean, but if you get past the looks, they are just big babies.
Historically, many dogs have been defined as pit bulls, and dogs identified as pit bulls have been held responsible for attacks.pit bulls have been known as dangerous , vicious, dogs, and some people think that they should be banned. Also people say that they can’t be trained. But this
Many people say pit bulls are atrocious, but are they? Some people own pit bulls that are not aggressive. Some people just over exaggerate pit bull attacks, and that just makes others petrified of these dogs.
Imagine you were told that you couldn't live somewhere or do something because you had a specific look and people felt threatened because of it. Or maybe you look like a bad influence or did bad things even though you're innocent. It's like false judgment for the first time and thinking right away they are a danger to this society. But also they will not let you live your life without being mistreated or stereotyped, is this the right thing to do or fair? (AMVA 1).
