Facing a constant dilemma of what should you pack in your kid’s tiffin tomorrow? While you as parents provide something nutritious, healthy and a meal which is easy to cook, but a child dream meal will always be a junk food like pizzas, burger and a bag of chips. So what do you do?
A healthy balanced diet provide your child all the essential minerals, vitamins and the energy to keep up with daily activities.
It is essential to make eating healthy food a habit right from the start. This will prevent fussiness and problems later on in the child’s life.
The mind grows and develops when it absorbs knowledge. In much the same way, the body grows strong when it receives the right kind of nutrients.
Does your kids often come home with half eaten tiffin and throw tantrums that food was boring. So here are some points to keep in mind while preparing tiffin box for your kid’s which will make you a rocking mom!

• Avoid keeping same food items on recurring basis to avoid monotonous eating and to bring varieties in the meal which will not limit his/ her choice to specific meals and it helps maintaining their interest in other foods.

Children that live an unhealthy lifestyle are more prone to becoming obese later in life. Furthermore, the cause of children becoming more obese includes; children that do not participate in physical activity, children that eat lots of snacks, play video games or watch TV, and that do not eat a healthy balanced meal. A good meal is very important because it health children’s to grow and develop an awareness of healthy eating habits for life. Also, eating at home it helps children’s to have a good attitude because they are eating a well balance meal and at the same time prevents obesity. Meals prepare at home contains a lot of vegetable and fruits and they are usually not fried. Parents and teachers can be involved in the healthy education of their children. Parents and teachers can establish a daily schedule of meals and snack time because it provides the opportunity to learn from one another. Also, encourage children in learning about new food is very important but without forcing them to eat. Trying foods from other countries can help children’s in learn about a new culture. For example, Salvadorian and Mexican beans contain a lot of iron and fiber and are very important for every one health. Furthermore, caretakers and parents can improve their menu by providing more fruit, vegetables, fat-free dairy and whole grains in order to have a healthy life style.
I decided to use the book ‘Hungry Planet: What the World Eats’ (Menzel and D'Aluisio, 2005) as a stimulus for my planning. The book includes pictures and information about different families and foods from around the world. As I wanted the plans to build upon the children’s enquiry based learning, I felt that ‘World foods’ would be an interesting topic for them to explore. Although food can be a sensitive topic, through my experience in various schools, I know that year 6 children will be able to build on their prior knowledge and understand values, beliefs and misconceptions. This topic will also develop their curiosity and support the children in making sense of the real world for themselves through tasks such as food tasting and a visit to the local allotment (Pickford, Garner and Jackson, 2013).
Nutrition also plays an important role in student health. Proper nutrition promotes optimal growth and development of children. Researchers generally find that a higher quality diet is associated with better performance on academic test scores and that nutritional status can directly affect mental capacity among school age children (Frisvold). Teaching students about the benefits of good nutrition will help them stay healthy throughout their growing years. “My plate” is one of the easy and interactive tools they can avail to assist them in making healthier food
... and exercising regularly. Parents should limit the amount of fast food that their child is consuming. Parents don’t have to completely get rid of fast food, but they should limit going out to eat to once a month. Parents should pack their child’s lunch containing all the main food groups and pack some snacks so they can eat that throughout the day instead of buying snacks for the vending machines. Parents should limit TV and computer time and instead gather the whole family to play outside for at least an hour. Parents should enforce a healthier lifestyle at home so that obesity could be avoided. What children learn at home about eating healthy, exercising and making the right nutritional choices will have an impact on them and affect other aspects later on in life. Focusing on these causes may decrease childhood obesity and lead to a healthier society as a whole.
Leave the sofa, go to the kitchen, and start breakfast for the children and yourself. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day so fix a substantial meal to fuel the kids until lunchtime. Start preparing lunches, lay out the kid’s clothes for the day, pack their book bags, go to their rooms, and tell them to get up out of the bed. Run go flip the bacon and eggs. Put toast into the toaster, pour orange juice into glasses, and put finished lunches into book bags. Tell kids to get out of the bed again.
Each daycare has their own menu for the children’s breakfast and lunch. Through my observations, I have noticed that the “Don’t Worry Childcare” has a variety of food options throughout the month. For example, the children could either choose from fruit loops cereal, or frosted flakes for breakfast. The snacks eaten varies every day as well. For instance, the children ate milk and cookies one day, and cheese crackers another day. An example of lunch would be, milk, chicken fingers, French fries, green beans, and mixed fruit one day, and spaghetti, corn, peaches, and bread and butter another day. I observed the children eat ham, mashed potatoes, green beans, and peaches one day for lunch. All those food options seemed very delicious. The leader pretended to eat the food, and then she said, “Yum this is very delicious and healthy, you and your families should eat this too.” The teacher also makes sure if they eat in front of the children it is either the same thing they are eating, or something healthier. One the main reasons for that was she had studied at boarding schools and when she began working as a teacher, she lived on the school campus. Therefore, she neither developed a routine of cooking nor had a desire of learning how to cook.
