As students, we’ve grown in a society in which homework is used to reinforce educational concepts outside of the classroom, but would if I told you that homework is holding us back… homework after all is just extra work assigned by teachers to help students grasp concepts. However, how are students expected to participate in after-school commitments or sports or other events if us students are always occupied with homework? In a Stanford study conducted in 2014 by Denise Pope, a senior lecturer at the Stanford Graduate School of Education, students in upper class California communities averaged 3.1 hours of homework each night. If students get out of school at 3 o’clock, then the homework would take them until 6 or maybe even 7. But what if the students have after-school commitments? In fact many people have sports, or other activities that they engage in after school. If not activities, how about spending time with your family? On a regular school day from 8 to 3 and an average of 3 hours of homework does not free up a lot of time to spend with your family. On the emotional spectrum, homework reportedly causes students a lot of stress and anxiety in their lives and depression could set in for some students. Homework is very important in order to help students remember concepts and encourage thinking and creativity to develop the brain. Sometimes homework can be rewarding and makes students feel be confident in themselves in particular subjects. It can teach students about time management and setting priorities. But what happens when the priorities take up their entire time at home, and the student doesn't even have time to see their parents or even siblings for more than a few minutes, or they don’t get some free time in their day...When is the line
