Planned happenstance theory is based on the impact of chance events that happened during a person's life. In this theory, people do not always need to plan a career but they can plan to act on chances so it can transform into career opportunities. People can also creates career opportunities by acting on their curiosities of happenstance. Planned happenstance theory is not just luck or being at the right place at the right time but also being able to take risk, flexible, optimism, curious in things and lastly have persistence even when things are not going accordingly. Throughout my career life, I was able to take opportunities upon happenstances which lead me into the career and work counselling program. Therefore I believe in the planned happenstance theory because all my career choices was lead by happen chances.
In the beginning of 2012, I lost my job and have been searching for a job for several months. At that time I was very stressed because I could not find anything that was suitable for me. One weekend, I decided to go to the shopping mall for some window shopping because i...
However, I ended up getting hired at the Walmart distribution center, which turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Although we still have to live paycheck to paycheck, we can now manage to pay the bills and put food on the table without as much stress as before.
When my father lost his job, our family lost many of the comforts that we once took for granted due to a reduced income. Money became a very large issue and with it came many limitations on wants and desires that were so accessible before my father lost his job. Furthermore, the loss of his job brought about immense shame for my father. Yet, rather than become embarrassed over my father losing his job and sad due to the fact that I could no longer have as many material possessions, I came to accept the different lifestyle. By letting go and accepting, the room was made for new experiences, joys, understandings, and lessons.

Individuals entering a field of work such as welfare or social work will have an understanding of their purpose and goals for personal development and their work practices. These individuals will know who they are and know their values and theories about life (O’Connor, Wilson and Setterlund, 2003). A theory about life as defined by Martin and O’Connor (1989) a concept that explains why a process or an idea happens in the observable world. Throughout my life, I have come across several values and beliefs held by my family, friends, teachers, health care workers, and many others. After evaluating their usefulness, I have created my own sets of theories about life and the values and beliefs they possess. The particular theory I will talk about is best known as ‘not giving up on myself or others in order to gain success in life.’ Using the terms personal theory and implicit theory, I will examine and evaluate the positives and negatives my theory has on my practice as well as the importance self-awareness when applying theory to practice. To compliment my theory and practice, I will then provide strategies that will limit the negative impacts of my personal theory in my teaching practice.
My first job was with a loan officer where I worked as support staffer which pretty much meant everything from translating and interpreting to taking out the trash. From there I worked for a bit at Target, in their little café/Starbucks, which was my lesson in life where I did not want to be. During this time I interviewed for an internship with then Senator Ensign, and was brought on the team as an intern. I graduated high school and knew I had to get out of fast food, and went to apply for retail. I landed a job in a luxury retail store, thanks to my multiple language skills and did great. I had the time of my life working with very important and high profile clients and being close to what I loved Fashion, but I knew this was not going to be my career. I quit for an opportunity I was offered with Nevada Youth Coalition helping out with voter registration, but had to go back to Mexico for a bit. Upon returning I attended the NCLR conference in which I ran into a person from my past Law School mentorship program HUELLAS, who happened to tell me they were looking for a file clerk. I applied and interviewed, and was hired that fall with DeCastroverde Law Firm. I worked there for about a year and a half and moved up to legal assistant, when the opportunity for this job came. I interviewed in the fall, but was not given the job. I decided to head back home, and the day I returned back to Las Vegas to start my spring semester I got a call for a second interview and the rest is history.
Personal Analysis: My personality is hard to describe. It all depends on the situation, but overall my core values stay the same. In this paper I will describe my personal analysis, which will include a self-assessment score of maximizer and satisficer, time management profile, and empowering others. I will also describe what my terminal values and instrumental values are. Then I will go through what my big five personality characteristics are and my MBTI personality profile.
Roy’s Adaptation Model, by Sister Callista Roy, is a conceptual nursing model that views humans as biopsychosocial adaptive systems who cope with environmental change through the process of adaptation (Roy & Andrews, 1999; Roy & Zhan, 2006; Tomey & Alligood, 2006). The process of adaptation may be either an adaptive (positive) or an ineffective (negative) response and adaptation occurs when the person responds positively to environmental changes (Roy, 1984). The person receives stimuli from both the self and the environment and the adaptive level is determined by the combined effect of the focal, residual and contextual stimuli (Roy, 1984). Focal stimulus is the “internal or external stimulus most immediately confronting the human system”; contextual stimulus “are all other stimuli present in the situation that contribute to the effect of the focal stimulus”; and residual stimulus “are environmental factors within or without the human system with effects in the current situation that are unclear” (Roy & Andrews, 1999).
Individual psychology was discovered by Alfred Adler who named his theory as such to emphasize the holistic perspective.
That summer after school I just wanted to find a job and start making some money. Going to college for anther four year was something I thought I could not handle. I final got a job at UPS unloading trucks. At first I thought how hard could it be? But every day I would come home exhausted from working in the heat. And then when I got tiny pay check, it hit me. From then on I decided that manual labor was something that I could not do the rest of my life and I could definitely not support a family on that income. A job behind a desk in the air conditioning was what I wanted.
I was only seventeen when I started working. I lived in a very small city that I downtown area full of different stores. During the summer times, most of the stores downtown would post job listings looking for young individuals who wanted to work during the summer season. I decided that I wanted to gain some work experience and decided to apply in one of the stores. The store I worked in was called Kid City; it was a clothing store for children. I enjoyed the job I had in the beginning; all I did was open up boxes and placed the clothes in the racks so the store associates could hang them up on the store racks. I enjoyed the job because I did not have to deal with the customers that came into the store. However, I was then moved to the front of the store to
Research philosophy, refers to the development of knowledge adopted by the researchers in their research (Saunders, Lewis and Thornhill, 2009). In other words, it is the theory that used to direct the researcher for conducting the procedure of research design, research strategy, questionnaire design and sampling (Malhotra, 2009). It is very important to have a clear understanding of the research philosophy so that we could examine the assumptions about the way we view the world, which are contained in the research philosophy we choose, knowing that whether they are appropriate or not (Saunders, Lewis and Thornhill, 2009). According to Saunders, Lewis and Thornhill (2009), three major ways of thinking about research philosophy are examined: ontology, epistemology and axiology. Each of them carries significant differences which will have an impact on the way we consider the research procedures. Ontology, “is concerned with nature of reality”, while epistemology “concerns what constitutes acceptable knowledge in a field of study and axiology “studies judgements about value” (Saunders, Lewis and Thornhill, 2009, p110, p112, p116). This study is intent on creating some “facts” from objective evaluations which are made by the subjects. Therefore, epistemology will be chosen for this study as the way of thinking about the research philosophy.
One of the main courses of this semester was to learn various organizational behaviors that are conducted in real business environment. By learning this course, we could understand our future colleagues and ourselves better. Throughout the semester, every week Ashley Hughes gave us an interesting lecture about different topics of oranisational behaviors. Along with the weekly lectures we also had a group presentation that gave us the opportunity to apply the lessons and techniques learnt in our professional and personal lives.During the course of this semester, Organizational Behavior has highlighted numerous topics, which concentrated on investigating the impact that individuals, groups and structures have on behavior within an organization and how their behaviour affect the performance of the organizations for the purpose of applying such technique towards improving an individual’s or an organization's working effectiveness (Jontymagicman, 2012). In this reflection paper, I will discuss the essential areas of organizational behavior: the influence of motivation, managing change and individual learning at an organization.
My primary personal thinking style is the Achievement Style, which is one of the constructive styles. Constructive Styles pertain to self-enhancing behaviors in ways of thinking, which determine a person’s level of satisfaction. These styles also pertain to the capability of effectively working with people, building healthy relationships, and being proficient at the accomplishment of tasks.
This approach focused on how we deal with unexpected events or by chance events. When I was younger, I feel like I had all the qualities that were mentioned above, especially optimism for the future. I was curious and wanted to be a teacher and then a hairdresser. I was unsure of what my future would hold or what path I would be on, but I was willing to take risks. I always knew I would continue with my schooling I just was not sure what that would look like until my senior year of high school. I was always flexible, until I found my niche. Once I did that I have been persistent and determined to be the best counselor in training that I could be. In short, this approach helps clients to look for solutions to their circumstances and develop strengths based on their past experiences in life and work (Zunker,
My last seven and a half months have consisted carrying out the work placement element of my college curriculum in Fexco offices in Killorglin. I was placed into the Finance department to coincide with my degree major of accounting and finance where I undertook a various amount of relevant tasks and projects. I thoroughly enjoyed my time working in Fexco and I gained a vast understanding of how the company is run and organized. I felt as though every day was a learning experience and a chance to develop a further understanding of what the working world consists of. I was allowed to experience different roles within the finance department in an attempt for me to discover which one I enjoyed to most. Prior to my work experience I was very unsure
