Choosing a career is one of the most important decisions a person has to make in their life. It is so important because that is what we will have to do to support ourselves throughout life. Imagine being stuck in a dead end job and having to go to work every morning and dreading it. That is no spending oneÕs time and life is too short to work 35 years and be unhappy with it. If a person likes the job they do then it is not work, because finding satisfaction out of a job can bring great happiness. That information has enabled me to make the decision of choosing my area of study and career in the field of Information Technology. Many things have lead up to my decision to choose a career in Information Systems. It started at my first semester at my local community college. I was enrolled in their graphic design program and most of the classes I was taking consisted of art classes. My first computer class was working in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. They are graphic programs that many graphic designerÕs use to make their design work. While working with these programs I was very intrigued by the power of computers and how they work. While going to school at the local community college I soon got a job at CitiMortgage working at the computer help desk. I was learning more about computers and networking which helped lead to my decision to change my degree of study to information systems. Along with my change of interest and working for a company that helps pay for my school I was looking for a better college to attend and that had a program that would fit my needs. I soon became aware of Maryville University and the weekend and evening college program that they offered.

However, after working with young children I have found that I love working with them, and have a connection with children. Currently, I am interested in becoming either a neonatologist or a general pediatrician so I can continue to work with young children.

Right now I have a fairly accurate idea concerning what I want to do with my life. My love for computers has taken me a long way and I have a strong feeling that I will continue in the field of computer science. Yet, I am also aware that I may change my mind several times before I begin a career. College will introduce me to new and various things, and I will develop new interests from this exposure. The world of technology is changing rapidly and computers seem like the best way to go. When I combine that and my love for computers I am almost certain that the field of computer science is right for me.
Although I did not realize it at the time, 1999 was the year that changed my career trajectory for the better. That was the year I was introduced to online instruction at my university, and it has been quite a ride ever since. It was a time when online education was being first offered. Course selection was quite limited, partially due to a general skepticism especially prevalent among faculty questioning the academic rigor of online classes. While it was not my intent to learn more about online instruction, I happened by chance to observe a training workshop for new online instructors. My interest was piqued. Thus, it was just a matter of time before I took the plunge into online education. The level of

Deciding on a future career is a difficult task. The first thing to figure out is the desired field of the career; for example, a career in art. After deciding the field, one would need to briefly research careers in that field and narrow it down to two or three careers that sound the most interesting. Two intriguing careers in the field of art are graphic design and fashion design. The next step for deciding on a future career would be to compare and contrast the two or three chosen careers.
Why I Chose This Career I chose this career because it interests me. I’ve thought of being an art director before I even took this class. I learned from this research that some art directors are very successful. The ones that put forth the effort are the ones who have a good future ahead of them.
The range went from 1= not prepared 3= prepared and 5= very prepared. In all three categories, I am above a 3 which I feel I have obtained this by interning, performing job shadows, working with a mentor, workshops, and school classes. My highest result is in career exploration with a 4 indicating that I am very involved in career exploration and will be helpful when I begin to narrow down my options and set my career goals. In my internship, I am able to mentor with everyone on my team as well as going into completely different departments to see a different side of the company. While doing this, I realized I do not want to go into billing.

As the year is coming closer to an end and with graduation so close, it is time to decide what I am going to do for the rest of my life. Part of figuring out what I am going to do is knowing what career I am to pursue. Last year during my junior year, I developed a strong interest towards psychology and have decided to pursue a career as a psychiatrist. Yet in the four types of personality/career tests, they state entirely different things but they all agree that I should do some type of teaching in a way. These results vary from jobs such as engineers to teachers to a marine biologist to management to an artist, some of which I would have never considered pursuing.
My career choices have changed through the years from mother and housewife through architect, accountant, or teacher, finally I have arrived at a computer career. The following is an idea of the path I have followed.
It is important for people to find what makes them happy and try their best to shape their life around that. Being successful at work becomes a lot easier when you are happy and enjoy being there. Petroleum engineering is something that I find interesting and it is a career field that I believe I will enjoy doing. I also enjoy spending time with my family which is why I want to get a job in Louisiana and remain close to home.
My ideal career would allow me to do something that interests me. I enjoy working with words and with numbers. I've also had success in the areas of technology and customer service.
