Why do you wish to be employed at Lockheed Martin? I am interested in being employed at Lockheed Martin because of the unique opportunities and the educational experiences that suit my career goals. Lockheed Martin is one of the leading tech companies in the world; interning there will allow me to become more knowledgeable in the various topics that I am interested in, engineering and the politicization of technologies, in a way that I will not be able to by attending typical high school classes. The company’s mission statement is dedicated to solving complex problems and finding innovative solutions. This internship is perfectly tailored to my career goals, as I am very interested in conducting intensive research in the realm of STEM to find …show more content…
solutions for impending global problems, such as climate change and safety. As a high schooler, I do not have many opportunities to work at a company and obtain the job skills that I could use in the future. As a result, I will be more motivated to make the most out of my intern experience. I will be able to become proficient in those essential skills by working at Lockheed Martin. Because being a student intern will place in me real-life situations and dilemmas, I can strengthen my persistence and problem-solving skills. I will also become a stronger team player and communicator when I work in a group. I understand that I will be placed in situations that are outside of my comfort zone, but I am willing to endeavor on these challenging tasks to bolster myself as a student and worker. What work/hobby/volunteer experience have you had? I have engaged in many volunteer projects over my high school career so far. The summer before my freshman year, I was a teacher’s assistant at the Wisdom Culture and Education Organization Chinese Folk Arts summer camp. My responsibilities included helping to prepare the camp daily and engage elementary schoolers in the camp’s activities. It was so rewarding to see the campers’ happiness and accomplishments throughout the week, and I cherished the bonds I made with them. It was at that summer camp I realized that I enjoyed working with children, which prompted me to become a peer tutor for a student with ADHD at my high school. I volunteered at the Friends of the Palo Alto Library (FOPAL), a nonprofit that hosts monthly book sales, as a floor person and a cashier. At the beginning of my sophomore year, I received the President’s Service Award (Gold level) for completing more than 100 hours of volunteer service. Afterwards, I continued to volunteer at FOPAL and be a peer tutor. The most influential volunteer experience occurred during the summer before my junior year. It was when I went on a mission trip to Taiwan to teach English to underprivileged children. It was a humbling experience to see how the students were so willing to learn and absorb new information, in contrast to American schools. What are you educational and career goals? After I complete high school, I plan to go to a four-year university.
I have participated in a variety of research opportunities at my high school. I took the Advanced Authentic Research course at my high school, which allowed me to research cellular allometric scaling laws under the guidance of a mentor. It was an eye-opening experience to have worked in a professional setting through meeting with my mentor and gathering data from large databases. Currently in my junior year, I am enrolled in the AP Seminar course at my school, which puts me on the path to obtain my AP Capstone diploma by the end of my high school career. In AP Seminar, I have engaged in deep research and learned how to synthesize arguments, which has culminated in many research papers. I have research a wide variety of topics: the social implications of climate change mitigation, prestige in the Silicon Valley, and the viability of aquaculture in the future. All of these experiences have made me want to potentially pursue research projects in college. Furthermore, I consider myself an environmentalist and an avid advocate for climate change mitigation. I hope to be able to engage in research involving new green energy or energy-saving technologies that will help with climate change mitigation, which is, in my opinion, one of the most impending problems of my generation. I am also educated in public policy surrounding the environment, so I could also potentially pursue a path that combines public policy and green energy or climate
change. In what extra-curricular activities are you involved? I have been a figure skater since the age of 4, and I am very committed to the sport. However, most of my training time happens in the morning, so it will not impede the times that I will work. I also play the violin and I play in the Senior Symphony of the Golden State Youth Orchestra. I am also a member of the business team on my high school’s robotics team, Paly Robotics. My responsibilities include writing grants to companies, creating business plans, and leading the charge on outreach activities and events to bring the community together. One extra-curricular activity that I participated in during the summer before my junior year was the environmental science course at the Stanford Pre-Collegiate Studies. At the program, I greatly increased my knowledge in the subject of climate change and environmental science. As a result of the program, I have begun to pursue a personal project to bring climate change awareness to the Detroit community. How did you learn about this program at Lockheed Martin? I learned about this Lockheed Martin Program through promotion at my high school. Many math teacher encouraged me to sign up for the program. Also, Lockheed Martin is a sponsor of Paly Robotics, so this opportunity arose in many conversations and served as additional encouragement to sign up for this unique experience where I could do research in subjects that interested me.
Apart from the experience I have gained at LT Security Inc., my various internship positions have also exposed me to eye-opening responsibilities. For example, as a marketing intern at MySelf New York, I engaged in organized discussions with customers as well as colleagues in the pursuit of better promotional and marketing strategies. I have also gained experience with other matters such as employee coaching and assistance, employee relations, communication and implementation of policies and procedures during my time at Stony Brook University as intern in arts management and at Yunnan Changji Real Estate Co. Ltd where I served as an administrative

I will complete my undergraduate studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) with majors in both computer science and physics. I aspire to matriculate at a graduate school with a prominent quantum information department such as either the very competitive Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) or the California Institute of Technology (Cal-Tech). My ultimate goal is to research quantum computing for the United States Department of Defense and/or Department of Homeland Security and develop innovative encryption techniques that will shape the future of national security.
Since I have been involved in Skyline High Schools STEM academy, my thirst for knowledge regarding spacecraft and spaceflight has fascinated me. The study of objects in deep space or within our own solar system is one of my greatest interests. I constantly find myself tuning in to NASA’s website, or stopping on any SpaceX news items to learn about any new advancements or achievements that have been made in space exploration. Anytime I have been home sick from school, or having free time, I always watch the science channel and learn about the different astronomical phenomena in space. From planetary nebula to neutron stars and black holes, nothing in space has ever been lackluster to me. What intrigues me the most is that behind any important discoveries in space, there is an instrument or spacecraft that has been created with the sole purpose of learning about these extraordinary objects. Spacecrafts, instruments, and devices of discovery are so intriguing to me. I want to delve into a more advanced understanding of these concepts. I
I am sure that not too many graduates from WCU can claim to be an alumnus times three! I have had the privilege of receiving my Bachelor’s degree, my Master’s degree, and most recently my Doctoral degree from the newly designed Educational Leadership program at WCU. I have had the honor of taking classes from some of WCU’s paramount professors, including Jane Schultz, Ellen Bacon, Lisa Bloom, Casey Hurley, Robert Crow, Kofi Lomotey, Kathleen Jorrisen, Anne Allen, and David Sutton. I offer a special shout out to Dr. Dale Carpenter, who was not only my professor and early advisor, but he was also my inspiration to continue to flourish through all three levels of my education. Lastly, I wholeheartedly lift up Dr. Brandi Hinnant-Crawford for

The occupational study of construction managers has been a great experience for me. I went into the situation expecting to find an average career with a simple day in and day out routine that would only change as much as the location would. What I found could not be more from the opposite. The work is exciting and constantly changing as the job changes. No two jobs are ever the same, and I saw that as I shadowed Ryan at two different job sites. This project took me through the history, training, and a day on the job. It could not have been a better experience, and this project proved that a career in construction management is a real possibility in the future.
Internships are becoming the norm in today’s ever changing society. Both paid and unpaid internships allow the intern to learn about a particular field or industry, gain experience in that particular field or industry, and build a network that can be leverage for future good. These benefits combined prove to be very useful and significant to the intern because it’s a differentiator from those individuals who did not have an internship. Given the very competitive job market for recent college graduates, the many benefits of internships have caused many interns to pass up pay in return for the aforementioned benefits. Internships have become so standard in the workplace that the National Association of Colleges and Employers recently reported that 75 percent of employers prefer job candidates with relevant work experience, while more than 90 percent prefer to hire interns who have worked for their organization (Bacon, 2011). When it comes to hiring full-time employees, 42% of graduates with internships who applied for a job received an job offer compared to...
I want to join Peace Corps because I have always been drawn to humanitarianism. All my life, I wanted to visit new places, explore different cultures, and learn what life is like outside of the safety of the United States. I wanted to expand my knowledge of the world, and in turn, share that knowledge as well. I feel that my life will never be complete without serving others. I have so much compassion and love for people.
I came to GW as a first-year resident and completed five years of training, to include four years of residency and a one-year fellowship in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery. Since early on in my training, I was completely devoted to advancing women's health through providing quality care surgical procedure. After graduation, I worked on amassing all the data we had from vast prior experience in the field to share with the scientific community the care we provide at GW and advance surgical practices by evidence showing improved patient outcomes with minimally invasive surgery. To date, we have multiple functional laparoscopic and robotic databases on all the primary gynecologic procedures. We have used those databases to publish several peer-reviewed articles in leading gynecologic journals and are in the process of completing a couple of the largest cohorts on single-site myomectomy and abdominal cerclage in the nation. This practice makes our department at GW a champion in the change achieved in the surgical care provided to women in the

In 2012, eighty-four percent of Santa Clara University graduates who responded to a survey from the Santa Clara University School of Engineering obtained one or more internships during their undergraduate studies. Of those who responded, eighty-two percent were employed full-time after graduation earning a median salary of $62,500 (Santa Clara University). This research exhibits that internships can be an important strategy in the efforts toward job search for both students, as well as for employers looking to hire valuable employees. As defined by InternNE.com, an internship is any carefully monitored service or work experience that may be evaluated for educational credit in which an intern or student establishes learning goals and reflects on his or her learning experience in relation to achievement of the stated goals. Internships should first be examined that, when implemented at fullest potential, these opportunities can provide companies and students with a competitive edge in today’s business world. Subsequently, it can be shown that internships assist organizations and companies with temporary or seasonal project and task completion. Lastly, internships will be clarified as to how they allow students to gain valuable experience before entering the workforce. From reviewing an ample amount of research, internships are beneficial and advantageous to the success of a young student, as well as companies.
