Since I have been involved in Skyline High Schools STEM academy, my thirst for knowledge regarding spacecraft and spaceflight has fascinated me. The study of objects in deep space or within our own solar system is one of my greatest interests. I constantly find myself tuning in to NASA’s website, or stopping on any SpaceX news items to learn about any new advancements or achievements that have been made in space exploration. Anytime I have been home sick from school, or having free time, I always watch the science channel and learn about the different astronomical phenomena in space. From planetary nebula to neutron stars and black holes, nothing in space has ever been lackluster to me. What intrigues me the most is that behind any important discoveries in space, there is an instrument or spacecraft that has been created with the sole purpose of learning about these extraordinary objects. Spacecrafts, instruments, and devices of discovery are so intriguing to me. I want to delve into a more advanced understanding of these concepts. I …show more content…
wonder what it would be like to be one of the individuals responsible for the development of technology that takes us beyond our current ideas of the impossible I have spent some time studying online articles put together by great organizations like NASA and SpaceX.
This process has led to discovering something very interesting about myself. Although, the cosmos and its phenomena are amazing, as most people would agree, for me, the way we make new discoveries blows my mind. The instrumentation panel, the spacecrafts themselves, the details in regards to the design of each individual component, makes my mind revel. The thought of being involved in an organization, that is pushing for improved launch capabilities, that will result in bigger and greater discoveries, would be a dream come true for me. To be part of a team that establishes colonies on Mars or other inhabitable locations in the Solar System is the ultimate dream. I know some of these ideas may sound like science fiction, so far-fetched, but so did 3-D printing, video calling and the Roomba vacuum just 50 years
ago. A science fiction daydreamer coupled with an ambitious engineering student creates the potential for big discovery. By combining the creativity, innovation, and fantastical ideas of a dreamer, along with rigorous, purposeful study, these dreams can turn into reality. A sick day, tuned into a news breaking story about the study of Neptune, turned into a passion and drive to learn more about all that has yet to be discovered. I want to help push the boundaries of science and technology. I want to be able to develop a greater understanding of aerospace engineering and I hope to do just that at the University of Colorado, by being accepted into the Aerospace Engineering program.
INTRODUCTION Attention-getter: “Space travel benefits us here on Earth. And we ain’t stopped yet. There’s more exploration to come.” (Nichelle Nichols from Star Trek) Credibility: Throughout our childhood as we study space, solar systems, planets we all come to a point of having the dream of exploring the space or learn more about it in the future.
Since elementary school, I have been fascinated with the field of astronomy and have enjoyed learning, researching, and reading about this topic, purely to satisfy my own intellectual curiosity. I began visiting our school planterium and eventually found myself venturing into research on complicated celestial bodies such as black holes, quasars, and pulsars. Though my school does not offer courses on astronomy, I pursued topics of relevance such as calculus and physics, thus enabling me to delve deeper into topics at a collegiate level which are interrelated to astronomy.
The debate about space exploration has been raging on for decades, people on both sides of the issue vehemently arguing their point of view. However despite the possible risk space exploration has the potential to change humanity for the better, and doing so is well worth the risk. This essay will elaborate some of the plethora of ways that space exploration could benefit mankind.
These are the reasons why I believe there should be more investment in space research and technology. It would be a time consuming and financially draining quest, but the pay off in new technology, applications, resources, and expansion opportunities make it a goal to strive for. As our rate of consumption of Earth’s natural resources continues to increase, it is imperative that we invest in the research of outer space as a possible solution to sustaining the human race.

... to tell anyone the outcome of the experiments on the International Space Station. It is a complex machine that may create fantastic results or become a large waste of time and effort, but until the world tries, it will never know which might be the most disappointing thing of all. For now, all anyone has is hope for a brighter future, and the chance that the International Space Station may bring them a step closer to that reality. “The orbiting laboratory serves as a symbol of our future. A future that embodies the dreams of our children and that promises untold discoveries for the next millennium. One that fulfills our innate human
It is within man’s blood and nature to explore, and space is our next New World. Man’s first achievement in space travel was the launch of the Sputnik on October 4, 1957. For the next decades, space travel was roaring like a rocket, fueled by man’s desire to explore, man’s desire for knowledge, and man’s desire to beat his enemies. However, these impulses have died out as the well of government funding has been diverted to wars and debts, and the interest of the American people has been diverted to wars and debts. Amidst all these issues it is debated as to whether or not space travel is worth the money and the attention of scientists, particularly since humanity faces so many issues on earth currently. However, because of the past inventions, current services, and future benefits, space travel is indeed worth the money and attention of governments and people. It is within our hands to control man’s advancement, and space travel is the next venue to do so.
NASA’s research and innovation looked promising, but it came at a cost. Money, resources, and spacecraft accidents, most famously Apollo 13 all hindered NASA’s research. In the 21st century, the debate over funding for NASA is at its peak since the birth of the organization in 1958, especially when there are numerous problems throughout the world. Is the money spent on space exploration worth the advantages and advances it contributes to society? When considering this topic, one might ask themselves, why explore space?
With issues like climate change, and population overgrowth, our species faces the risks of major extinction (4). Climate change has been a man-made problem of recent years that threatens our planet. It will take huge mitigations from current and future societies to even come close to reversing climate change. Not only that, but our population has been growing at an extremely alarming speed. At our current rate, our species may not be able to survive for much longer. This is where space exploration comes in. With the recent discovery of water on mars, and the finding of Kepler-78b, it is possible that mankind can prolong our existence. The possibility of interstellar travel seems to be an option or even a necessity if we wish to continue living. Populating another planet could help solve the population crisis and climate change simultaneously. Though, it seems we are not at that point currently, which is exactly why it is imperative that the government increase funding for space exploration. Now, even if inter-galactic habitation isn’t possible, space research helps us protect ourselves from asteroids and other threats, and could also be used to find other planetary resources. Nonetheless, it seems space research is of utmost significance if we want to continue living as a
Have you ever wondered what interstellar travel is? How it is related to space travel now a days? Science is always involved in the ways things work. Especially when that object has something to do with space.
Over the course of this great country’s history there have been grotesque wars, groundbreaking discoveries, and ultimately new standards set. As a nation, the United States was built on the grounds of exploration. Testing the boundaries and reaching new heights is how the U.S. became what it is today, and is what distinguishes the U.S. from other countries. Now, of course, not every person is a scientist, astronaut, or great explorer. This is nearly impossible simply due to the fact that society branches off into countless different people with varying interests, jobs, and focuses. However, this is the time for the United States to provide its space program with the funding it needs to pave the way for a brighter future for all of mankind.
I first became interested in astronomy when my 7th science grade teacher was teaching us how black holes work. Although I didn’t understand much of what I was being taught, I began to have tons of question on the subject. This longing for answers lead me to seek the help required to understanding the universe. I began to read more books and seeked help from those who might help me answer my questions. I plan to pursue my interest in USC by taking advantage of the astronomy programs that they offer and push my understanding of astronomy so that I can ask more thought provoking questions to myself as well as my peers. I am also hoping to take part research opportunities in the astronomy or cosmology fields.
“Sheltered as we are by Earth's atmosphere and magnetic field, which deflect lethal radiation from space, we are like coddled children who have never ventured into a tough neighborhood” (Folger 2). Humans have been fascinated with space since the beginning of our time. Just like children and rough neighborhoods, we have tackled obstacle over obstacle to make it home again. In the end, we have a better knowledge and strength than before. The future of space exploration can assist us in answering the everlasting question of how the universe came to be. The more we explore the infinite galaxies, the more we can scientifically discover and create new technologies as science advances. As we continue to discover, we can create new fields and occupations for aspiring young students like myself.
Did you know that without space exploration we wouldn’t have a lot of our knowledge or technology? I always wanted to help make a rocket fly one day, or be apart of space a corporation.
By being in a very technologically advanced era, scientists can invent revolutionary devices never thought of. NASA is doing that right now and has been doing that since it began. They are not only climbing the stairs in space exploration but in the medical industry, too. Nevertheless, they are forever changing millions of lives by using all they have discovered. Most of all, they are teaching people a life lesson, to always use the things you have for the greater good. NASA has achieved profound success ever since their start in 1958 and they will continue to make discovery and innovation their first and foremost goal for years to come.
