Majored in accounting during my undergraduate at Michigan State University, I am determined to be an audit professional at a public accounting firm in Toronto upon graduation from MMPA program. To better qualify myself and equip myself with advanced accounting knowledge, I am dedicated to obtaining the CPA designation as well. In the next three to five years, I see myself being promoted from an associate to a manager who will lead a team and direct a project. Secondly, the two co-op work terms provided by MMPA would be very beneficial to me, because I can apply what I learnt in the classroom to the real world as well as gain valuable work experience at an accounting firm. Specifically, I will work directly with clients to help them solve auditing and tax issues and further expand my network by collaborating with my colleagues at work. More importantly, the co-op work experience will lay a solid foundation for the full-time recruiting.

After over 15 years of working as a CNA and Caregiver, I decided that I wanted to continue my education in the medical field. In 2013 I took the first step towards gaining a better future with more experience as a medical professional. I enrolled into a Medical Assistant program at IBMC college of Longmont. During part three of the CRP, it was required of us to create a MyPlan account and to take several assessments to get an idea of our personality, skills and interests. As a result, MyPlan would provide suggested career paths to choose from starting with the most relevant. When I looked at my career paths that MyPlan suggested, it was no surprise to me to find that accounting was at the top of the list with the second option being an actuary. Some of the personality traits required to be an effective accountant include having a logical and analytical mind, being attentive to detail, and high moral and work ethics. These are traits that I possess and have been able to strengthen over time.

After graduating from the University of South Carolina with my Bachelor’s degree in Experimental Psychology, I was hired by Dr. Ron Prinz and his colleagues to work full-time on the Triple P in Action Study (TPAS). TPAS is a study aiming to evaluate the effectiveness of the Triple P parenting program in comparison with an in-person delivered version and an online version. This program is for families with a 3-7 year old child with clinically significant behavioral difficulties. A regular aspect of my job is to conduct play-task assessments and to child mind children from infancy to adolescence while parents attend weekly Triple P sessions. As an accounting major, the next career question you are asked is, when do you plan on taking the C.P.A. exam. Most, students take the exam just because of outside pressure, and some students ultimately don’t even take the test. First, I will express my personal mastery journey with my work life. I just recently graduated from the University of Indianapolis with my undergraduate degree in accounting. I graduated with a high GPA while participating in collegiate baseball, which I believe will help set me apart from others when beginning my career. I feel that this major is of a great interest to me because its diversity. Both career paths have advantages and disadvantages. Public accountants have greater variety of exposure in working with different clients and industries; also, advancement opportunities may become sooner. On the other hand, private accountants can reach management levels without a CPA license and advancement opportunities may not come as quickly.
